Marathon with kids?

Hi there. I have been an off and on runner for years. I did just start running with my oldest daughter, now 10. We found out about the EE 5k in May 2012 and were thinking about doing it. It would be a great bonding moment but we werent thinking about going back to WDW until 2013. Anyhoo, has anyone run this race with younger kids? She would be 11 1/2 at the time of the race. Thanks for the info. And our prize would be Disney Dooneys.....

I haven't shared Disney races with my son yet, but did run a 10k with him this January. He was 11 1/2 and did great. We had an amazing time. He doesn't like to run, but really enjoyed the competition, the pushing past limits, and he managed 2nd in his age group! I think EE would be fun with your daughter because of the challenge part of it. Go for it!

My 9 year old DS is doing Couch to 5K with me. (I'm a C25K grad.) We're doing a local 5K here in the fall and I hope next year he will do a 10K with me, possibly a 1/2 marathon someday So I totally think that running it with a 11 1/2 year old is perfect!

its actually pretty exciting to run with one of your kids. Disney is a great place to do just that. It's my opinion that as long as the child is anxious to go out with mom or dad, not the parent pushing the kiddo, it is a very healthy experience and bonding opportunity. The 6-10 year old range is about the point when you can really get them focused on planing and executing a training plan that is age appropriate. I would not really encourage a younger child, but would not say no either. I doubt you could get one much older really interested to be with a parent, at least if they have a possibility of running into a friend. I ran the Disney 5K with my daughter and it was a highlight race weekend for me.
