Marathon Weekend Weather

Looks too cold to me. I just ran a race with the start at about 39 and I was absolutely freezing! I would much prefer a 50 degree start.

Also, bring those mylar blankets from last years races. They actually keep you pretty warm while waiting for the race to start. (similar to trash bag)

Well we are beginning to enter the 10-day range. That means taper madness has set in and that obsessing about the weather can start – at least for the 5k! Accuweather's temps came back up but still below average, maintaining a cooler than normal outlook for a couple days now.

Weather Channel
5k Start – 49F

Accuweather

5k Start 42F - Feel Real 34F
Friday High 59F - Rain

Half Start 42F - Feel Real 32F
Saturday High 61F - Cloudy

Full Start 45F - Feel Real 37F
High 63F – Mostly Cloudy

As a statistical point the weather service averages are low 50F and hi 71F. Averages since I have been attending (1999) Low 48 and Hi 72

Ahh Charles you were reading my sleepy mind this morning :thumbsup2 The number 1 reason I logged into my computer this morning... check accuweather LOL Thanks Charles!

I never thought I would be checking the Dis board for weather but I am...thanks Coach!!!!!:lmao:

I know weather can change, but yesterday the Friday (Mickey Mile for the kids) and Saturday (1/2 for me...) made me happy. Today it may rain on my kids! Can't wait for tomorrow to be sunny again! I will patiently wait for my Disboard weather :)

Yes!

ITA with wearing a headband - I got mine at Target its a polar tech type material - - and I train with it, but it does "slip" from time to time - *duh I just remembered what the ones at the expo/running stores - they are more of a "band-y" material - but are they "warm"? They do stay where you put them!!

50 deg is a lot warmer than the 0 deg we have today - but its sunny, it doesnt feel THAT cold... just cold!

I'm cannot stand cold weather and enjoy running in warmer 70+ degree weather. It's COLD here in Richmond, Va and I'm really looking forward to going to Orlando next weekend, not only for marathon weekend, but to escape this ice box & enjoy a weekend in shorts!

Thanks Charles! I think you are our official DIS board marathon weekend weather man:rotfl:
Currently things are looking good.:thumbsup2

I'm hoping the forecasts posted here are right and we get 40 degrees for the starts. I'd much rather run in the cold than the heat. Did enough of that already this year. :)

Thanks for keeping us updated, Charles!

I have to admit that I do like the cool and cloudy forecasts. I'm from Seattle, so I find that it's the sun that kills me during events. The rain on 5K day.... I do not like so much. I was planning on bringing two pairs of shoes, but I may have to wear one of my "retired" pairs of shoes on the plane to possibly wear for the 5K day, if it does look like it'll be rainy. Not the best plan, but I'd rather run 3 miles in old shoes than run 13.1 or 26.2 miles in damp shoes!

However, that does bring up the problem of park shoes.... I don't have room for more than 2 pairs of shoes in my bag..... I guess I'll be one of those crazy people walking around the parks in flip-flips. Granted, they are $80 Keens flip-flops that I wear around Seattle all summer from April-October, but still.

And, this has just turned into me talking to myself. Oh, taper madness...

I'm liking the reports so far. Hoping it stays this way.

AFM, with regard to headbands, I've use Bondi bands. They sell at the expo. We grouped up with some and were able to get the multi-purchase discount. I like the idea of a balaclava but have never used one. Last run I just wrapped my scarf around my face until I got warm.

Remaining with a cooler than normal outlook the Weather Channel and Intellicast are on the same model. Accuweather’s model is close to the other two models every other day. This is the opposite day.

ADDED - There is an additional service that is now near the Accuweather guesscast. They have similar temps but include wind speeds in their data....
They have 19 mph winds on Friday, 18 on Saturday and 15 on Sunday all out of the north west or north east. That explains the big drop in the feel real temp from ambient.

:rotfl2: begin?

Its always good for me to obsess about stuff I have no control over!!

Thanks for the "added" wind speed predictions!!

Charles, Thanks for the heads up on the possible wind. I'd prefer 0 if you can arrange it :thumbsup2 But better forewarned right? Thanks!

Hmmm, what to pack, what to pack...pacing around here.

Lily when you figure it out let me know please. I went from 100% on what I was taking to a list that might not leave room for park clothes and my smiley is kinda this :lmao: and yet kinda that :scared1:
