Marathon Weekend 2027

Here’s something I can’t recall ever happening: apparently people who complained about not getting in are getting DMs saying they can’t make it for whatever reason (hours after signing up????) and they’re willing to transfer. Needless to say... no.
So maybe we have some people who didn't do their homework and snagged bibs on speculation, betting on someone paying them for a transfer?

I'm definitely planning on Charity for MW 2028, this is getting too stressful.

A tip for charity, definitely look into workplace giving, either through your own or through friends/family. My company uses Benevity but you can also upload receipts for donations outside of the platform (think out of network claims for healthcare). Mine matches 100%, so that cuts the fundraising amount in half if I were to just donate the entire amount myself. If you have good friends/family that would be willing to contribute and get matched, the good thing is MW is very far away and there is plenty of time for matching to go through (can take a couple months).

I did some research and I think the most concrete way to ensure a match is to reach out to the charity first to see if they have done it before and have a specific process. Most charities should be able to credit you the "match" when it comes through as long as there is a note in the donation or if they are expecting it. To be safe, I would probably not donate through a fundraising link, but would make a donation to the charity directly through Benevity with a note that it is for Hanna's Dopey bib for example. As long as you are in contact with the charity I'm sure they can ensure it gets counted towards your minimum. I don't think I'd want to donate directly to my fundraiser as it can be a bit of a gray area about matching gifts that you receive something for, though Benevity customer service assured me that would be fine too.

Definitely possible but I'd think that anyone who is aiming to scalp these would read the fine print about the bibs being nontransferable. Teamrundis said they got a comment on one of their posts, said they ask to send money via paypal along with their personal info. Someone else got a DM after leaving a comment. Definitely more aggressive than the usual reseller.

Once upon a time my local half/full would sell out relatively quickly (6 hours ish so nothing compared to the chaos today), and there was a bit of a black market for bibs particularly towards race day. They tired cracking down on it with by requiring IDs, which I'm sure helped some but I'm it was unfortunately impossible to police.

Don't have that problem now as the race stays open for months, expand the field by getting the the city to expand one section of trail and for what it's worth just seems a little less popular than it used to be.

Congrats to everyone who got it, and condolences to those who didn't.

Oddly enough, I feel excited (to have gotten in for the half) but also a little sad because this particular group of folks here at Disboards are really awesome and I wish everyone could have secured their bibs. I didn't feel this as much in years past, as it felt like so many folks here managed to get in with help. This group isn't like the combative/adversarial/angry FB groups I am in, which contributes to the sense of loss for those here who aren't having a good day. Sending hugs. 💜 🤗
I have a similar sentiment. I was following along for W&D and it was the first I had seen such a large number from this community shut out. I’m very thankful for y’all.

I’m glad I was able to help one but the rest of my queues were too little too late. I’m so sorry and frustrated that this is how registration plays out. In a perfect world, we’d get everything we wanted. I’ll definitely be more appreciative of my 26.2 miles in January.

I have them in mind for next year. My BIL has been fighting MM for 10 years. I have run for charities before and once you meet their requirements they will send you link to use to register.
Thank you for the information! That's good to know :) I hope your BIL is doing well! My mom has been fighting for 6 years now. Thankfully things are okay/maintenance at the moment but it's always a thought in the back of our minds, you know?

And here I was thinking straight up scammers.

And this is why you are an honorary evil villain. But also probably right.
I doubt there's many people who made legitimate mistakes. This is just people trying to scam money from people while they are still emotionally invested in the weekend. Pretty gross.

Good grief. We’ve got THIS in the mix now stacked against us, too, now?!

SAME. And I still think it is, lol! I am a world-class cynic.

Kind of off-topic but now that my son and I have our race registration and have booked our accommodations, I've started thinking about meal planning and park activities. The problem with the Dopey (or if you're only running the marathon but will arrive a couple days early) is that you have to be careful not to wear yourself out and to eat somewhat carefully over the course of those days.

It would be fun if some year they did a "Through the Looking Glass" themed Dopey knockoff (maybe they could call it the Chesire Cat or the Tweedle Dum) with "We're All Mad Here" as the slogan. Maybe they could have it right around April Fool's Day. This would be the Dopey run backwards. That way you can get the harder races out of the way first and then relax and enjoy the parks and the good food over the last two days when you have the easier runs. Maybe they could even run the usual courses in reverse, if that would work.

I doubt there's room in the Disney race schedule for another "Marathon Week" but this would be cool.

I have a friend that is absolutely in favor of doing a backwards Dopey. I personally think he's crazy, but to each their own :rotfl2:

Ideal order of "Dopey" would be Half Marathon, 10k, Marathon, 5k for me 😂.

RunDisney used to allow deferrals although I’m not sure they’ve ever allowed bib transfers. It has been such a long time since either have been an option that it’s hard for me to believe anyone was buying bibs speculatively to sell later. I would tend to believe those DMs were coming from straight up scammers.

I can only imagine what a nightmare this would be if bib transfers were allowed and a secondary market for these registrations existed.
