Marathon Weekend 2027

My two cents on corrals. Generally I am a corral C participant. This past MW I ran with family members for the 10k and the half, out of E and F respectively. I experienced kinda what I thought I would. For the 10k I was with my DW and we were going at a fast walking pace. The route was not very congested, we flowed pretty nicely with the crowd, no chance of stopping for pictures as the lines were outrageous but outside of that it went very well. The next day I was running with my DD and (F)SIL. We were attempting to run, using my intervals (90/30) and it was pretty much a nightmare! Our choices were to slow way down, zig zag all over the course or to run along the side in the grass. The worst was the walkway going into MK, simply wall to wall people. We decided to slow down and wait out the congested area, the last few miles were really good.

What I take from it is that the course (outside of pinch points) works pretty well if you are going roughly the pace runDisney believes people of that corral should be going. And this leads to a more enjoyable experience. I was the slowest runner of the three of us on the day of the half, but I was the only one with a POT (could have gone out of C), I would bet that the other two could have easily run a POT time to get into B and my daughter likely A. So we should have expected to struggle going the pace we wanted amongst runners going much slower.

I guess all this to say that I believe runDisney is a fantastic environment for new runners, and should remain so, but I think expanding the POT would help. Especially for runners like me pacing at the edge of corral C/current edge of POT times. I am trying to get a bit faster, but got work to do!

I love it! And I just had a probably-once-in-my-life change in my schedule for Spring 2027 that means I would not have to fly back on Marathon Sunday soooo.....
I'm thinking this is my one shot at doing Dopey* **

*after I have spent years saying I would never do Dopey because the 4 wake-ups are not worth it :cutie:
**assuming I can even get in

Ah, shoot - I actually love the design theme for once! Which is problematic because I’ll be pretty disappointed if I don’t get in.

Note the total lack of Dopey. Which I get: he’s not part of the OG lineup. I assume there will still be a Dopey Challenge, but a little weird to not see it represented at all there.

Looked at all the past MW key art since the return and I don't think any of it had Dopey. Sounds like it's a DIS rule, no multiverse allowed here!

Um…..what exactly are people interpreting as “theme”? The colors? The nod to Donald in the word Marathon? The headbands? I don’t see anything that screams “unifying theme across all races” to me.

(I’ve never done “subtle” well!)

I like an athletic (i.e. headbands) theme! Loved the varsity theme a few years ago and was sorry I didn't do Dopey then from a merch standpoint.

Hahaha thanks for asking the question.. then comments are very helpful… wow how detailed observants are you! :)

I just saw a gray background with character faces… nothing stand it out as a theme for me 🤣

I love the "theme"!! I also love Donald as a character, so I like that he's so heavily represented. I might be in the minority, but I feel like Marathon Weekend doesn't really need a theme outside of the characters, so I'm ok with the subtle theming.

I agree and the bonus of a nice subtle theme is that it doesn't attract as much outside attention.

Was trying to think of the right word to describe this era and I think it might be technicolor:

I have IronMan Texas in mid April.
Woohoo! I have Michigan 70.3 in September. I am sooo excited to get back into triathlon.
After doing these races for 14 years, I do not believe there is anything that will resolve the essential things that make rD races weird in terms of racers of many different paces sharing a section of course other than eliminating photo stops
I think this is something that not enough people take into consideration. No matter where you start, with maybe the exception of A where there are no or small lines for photos, the stopping messes up the average paces because people join later corrals once their line is done.

I also think another thing people often don’t take into consideration is that just because someone HAS pot doesn’t mean they are going to run that fast. Lots of reasons for this— pictures, wanting to have an easy run, etc. I have POT for the half distance but I have never ever ran the equivalent for a 10K or half at Disney.
Unfortunate because a LOT of times it's someone I'd want to see.
I think they do this on purpose. Idk why though.

One more point of something people don’t consider- the emphasis on run walk is also going to mess up course congestion. We get the etiquette of walkers to right, runners to left but when you are run/walking it is hard to completely change where you are on the course (and sometimes could even be dangerous to do so).

It's obviously fate and you should lock in that schedule change ASAP before it can change back
I think the theme is more gray and blue race shirts.
Bite your tongue! 🤣🤣

I've thought about this, wonder if they think that the crowd-flow is better if you put a popular character early vs. someone that most people skip. They had Mickey as the very first character out at the 5k last year and I thought that was crazy. Obviously a long line and I decided to skip. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
