SAFD. Disney fan first and foremost
I was aware of Marathon, and I thought people were crazy for wanting to run through the parks rather than being at the parks… nuts…
Then randomly I saw one of the medals (maybe the marathon?), and people wearing them at the parks, like a small club of proudness… and I watched the runDisney episode at the One Day in
Disney+, where the passion from CM to prepare everything at such crazy hours, the people talking about it in that episode looked so passionate about it… plus, I was feeling older and too heavy at 47 yrs old I said even if it is once in a lifetime I want to earn that medal….
And I did from couch (47 yrs of couch) to a full Princess weekend 5k/10k/HM!…
@DopeyBadger helped me with that plan, I felt amazing, I finished feeling healthy, capable and so joyful… I could not believe how fun and energizing was running (walking) through the parks; the feeling at the finish line of that HM was probably one of the moments I have felt more alive in my life (a high note core memory, that it has been only surpassed when I finished the Marathon this year and won the Dopey medal… also with DopeyBadger helping me all the way in the course)….
I was hooked, I have signed up for almost every event since that Princess’ 23… making lots of mistakes and learning lots about my self (I can be more disciplined on exercising that I had never thought; I can get stronger overtime, I can surpass mental monkey/imposter thoughts - well for the most part, because still after 10+HM I still don't think of myself as a runner)
I have tried a couple of local 5k, and guess what.. I don't like running just because of doing it, I missed the entertainment, the people, characters, ambiance and the safety feel (plus real bathrooms) so.. I really love running at Disney, and that’s my thing
Because of runDisney I have added DVC points (probably too many, or too few if I continue going down in the Disney addiction path LOL)
The only downside is that I have put on more weight (how ironic now that I exercise), but this year Im getting 50yrs old and I have to overcome the carbs/sugar/bad habits, one way or another because I have run a Marathon (!) hence I can do anything, right? Lol
