Marathon Weekend 2026

SAFD:
I hope that everyone is well. I have just not been keeping up with the boards this summer. Life has been quite demanding, but overall very good. Training is going well, but I had to scale back training and refocus on a late fall marathon. Was originally thinking of doing several races this fall to build towards Dopey. But new plan is going to be best I think.

My favorite distance is the marathon. I just really appreciate the time and planning that goes into the distance. Plus I just feel so accomplished when I cross a marathon finish line.

Least favorite distance: 5k, when going for time it hurts! When just running it is over too fast.

Happy Labor Day.

SAFD: Favorite distance is the half marathon - long enough to feel like you accomplished something, but not so long that you are gimpy afterwards for days, and the long training runs don't take over your weekends!
Least fave - 5K for all the reasons everyone has already mentioned

I was at the store this afternoon and saw someone wearing a rD 10k shirt. I mentioned that I have similar shirts, we talked for a moment, and it turned out to be someone from this board. Cool! Always nice to meet others in real life.
That was me! It was really nice to meet you :)

I know it was you, but I try to be respectful of privacy and didn't want to mention a name without your OK.
Yes, very nice to meet you as well. I hope to see you (and everyone else) at our meetups in Jan.
On that note, it seems that Pop has become a bit of a MW resort, and it happens to be where I'll be staying anyway. So we may want to discuss if anyone wants to meet over dinner. If not, then at 4 am and at HH.

This!! I did a 5k for a new PR last year and I felt that for a week! Even the Goofy didn't have me feeling it for that long. Geesh.

I’m currently at Pop too (unless the Swolphin opens up - there’s been zero availability for months now)

SAFD:

Favorite distance is the marathon because I find it way easier to push through painful legs than screaming lungs. (Also, the sense of accomplishment I feel after it)

Least favorite distance is the 5k for the opposite reason marathon is my favorite hahaha

Painful Legs vs Screaming Lungs....that perfectly sums up the racing spectrum!

I gave up on finding Sunday night at Swan, but have Th-Sun at a nice PH rate. Doing 1 night now at AKL thanks to a good deal on some points from my niece

I thought of doing a split stay but since I’m solo it’s not worth it. Would rather not have to deal with switching rooms after the marathon. And I love Pop for how they treat the runners and the Skyliner

Favorite distance: Half marathon. It’s long enough to feel challenging but not too long that I feel like dying. 😝

Least favorite: Can I say any marathon not at Disney World? Because I can’t see myself ever doing one if I don’t get characters and parks. Haha.

Otherwise, 5k.
x2! Exactly my sentiments :)

So. Do we think they are dragging their feet on the medal reveal because of the weird timing with the 12k virtuals signup AND when DL Halloween is landing?

OR

Are they dragging their feet because they want to announce course changes when they do the reveal so that more eyeballs see it sooner? But they haven't confirmed those changes with park/property operations, constructions timelines, and/or USATF yet?

OR

Did someone forget to schedule the post?

OR

Are we just spoiled with predictability at this point and there isn't really any rhyme or reason to when they show us the medals?

Is "All of the Above" one of the choices?

So the Boneyard closed yesterday, but Dinosaur isn't closing February 1, which means we can potentially still run the marathon course through that area to get backstage.

I think that path is under construction from the last pictures I saw, which admittedly are slightly dated now:

So either they influence the construction (unlikely from my point of view), or they'll need to find a different exit out of the park. It looks like there's another backstage exit near Dinosaur, so maybe they'll detour through there? Bonus points is that this should hopefully add enough "extra" milage to replace at least one of the useless parking lot loops they usually add:

I think this if the course change is bad, and they'll want people to focus on the shiny medal vs the crappy updated course (I hope not)

But I think it might be a combination of these two? They've had other things to post about, so haven't really needed the medal reveal to keep their account active.

I also think I'm in the minority that would rather they just stop doing medal reveals altogether. I think as a whole, we're a lot more critical of the medals ahead of time than we would be if we saw them for the first time at the finish line.

that’s my guess too

I really hope not. Will stay optimistic until proven otherwise.
