Marathon Weekend 2026

SAFD: I don't really have any old race shirts. Before Disney World runs, I usually would just toss race shirts from the local races. I have too many t-shirts, so no room for race shirts. So I would say my oldest race shirt right now is the 2020 WDW half marathon shirt.

Now to add a question to this, what do you guys do with all of your rD shirts? I have so many shirts now (probably not as much as some of you). The bin I put them in is starting to overflow. I probably only wear maybe four of them consistently during the fall/winter for runs. I have came close to tossing the ones I don't wear but thought I would hold onto them a little longer.
The DW would be the first to say that I already have way too many shirts, but for me I have work/church suitable (meaning dress shirts and/or moisture-wicking Polo shirts), casual social setting (like going out to eat) or concert in the park, work-from-home suitable, working in the yard suitable, and at the lowest tier are the working-on-cars shirts. (Insert the scene of Monica's 11 categories of towels... IYKYK). And depending on which activities I've been doing, I can go through two or three shirts a day due to sweating or what I've been doing.

But my rD shirts are in the WFH and casual wear category, and I'll wear them a lot, starting about a month ago. Of note is that my earliest rD shirts from 2009 and 2011 are still holding up quite well. These are the white Champion shirts with the half and full marathon logos. Worth mentioning is that all of my long-sleeve rD shirts have been converted to short sleeve to make them comfortable for warm weather, and they do sometimes get worn for a training run or a local race. Oh, and when I do go to WDW, rD shirts are now what I usually wear in the parks.

@The Expert just got a super awesome quilt made with a bunch of hers!
I did! Thanks for the tag. Details and pics here: https://www.disboards.com/threads/the-running-thread-2025.3959705/page-59#post-66115684

My oldest race shirt is the 2016 Princess 5K (Ariel) that you see in the quilt. The oldest one I kept, and still wear, is from the 2017 Tinkerbell weekend that I bought at the expo. It is wicking material but not clingy and has held up really well. The color is like a bright heather green, which is not showing well in this pic.

SAFD: the oldest one I actually sometimes wear is the 2016 WDW Marathon shirt. The VAST majority of race shirts I’ve received I find ugly and/or fit poorly, so I don’t keep them. When I’ve sold rD medals, I’ve used the shirt as padding in the package. Otherwise, I either don’t take a shirt at all, or I donate it to Goodwill.

SAFD: I don't wear it but i still have it. It is from WDW Marathon 2003. It is 100% cotton so i dont like to wear it in Georgia. I have to look in that same drawer but i probably have my shirt from my first marathon which was 1999, the Air Force marathon. I think it was the third year they did that marathon. I worked at the WP Air Force base at the time. The first year they did the marathon i ran as part of a relay. I said i would come back and do the whole thing.

Some I keep just to keep, some I wear for running, many were donated either direct or as throwaways at Disney, some were tossed after serving their purpose around the yard. Depends on how much I like the weekends shirts or if it was a first milestone for me. Probably a lot like you, wanted to keep them but can only keep so much before something has to give.

SAFD: My oldest race shirt is from my first rD race - the 2009 WDW Half. For everyone who hates the recent shirts I will take them over the 2009 one any day - the fabric is horrible for snagging. It really did not age well at all. I now break it out only a couple of times a year. I also have an Ottawa 10k shirt from that same year (but 4 months later) that I wear frequently and is in MUCH better shape.

As for what I do with my rD shirts - I wear them a lot for winter training - quite often in layers. My issue is I have way too many long sleeve running shirts and too few short sleeve shirts so I may convert 4 or 5 of them to short sleeves to get more use out of them in the summer. For now they sit in a plastic bin (soon to be 2).

But I do still have a shirt (that I wear) from a basketball camp that I went to in high school. I'm 44 now.
I have something similar.....a shirt from a summer basketball camp when I was in 7th or 8th grade. And I'm 41. It's getting pretty threadbare these days, and the collar is starting to loose the soft, worn in feel and start to feel just plain itchy, but I can't bring myself to throw it away yet. (I also have my team hoodies from senior year....2002...for basketball and softball in my closet.)

SAFD: My oldest is from my first race, the 2002 Peachtree RR. I used to try and wear the shirts until I would get the next one and then out the older one in storage. A few months ago though I realized I wasn’t likely to do anything with them (although the quilts do look awesome) so I donated all of them except for the first one and a few marathon weekend shirts I use from time to time.

Mine sit in a drawer until they get used for throw away clothes at a race or given to someone who wants them. I rarely wear any of them.

Yep, I’ve got a solid pile of them for throwaway, too. Problem in recent years has been that it’s too warm for a throwaway or too cold for a thin shirt to cut it, so the pile got a little out of control lol!

SAFD: Aside from some old long sleeves Chicago Turkey Trot t-shirts that are currently rags, my old oldest running shirt that I actually run in is my 2018 James Foley Freedom Run - virtual 5k we did that was in our neighborhood. If a shirt is made from moisture wicking material and not ugly I rewear them all the time. I love my Brooks Springtime Surprise shirt and hope Brooks still makes them going forward.

Not quite related to old race shirts but I had been eyeing an old race jacket on ebay for a fairly long time, hoping it would pop up in my size but not having any success. There was one for $150 brand new but I absolutely wasn't going to pay that much after seeing jackets in other sizes go for a third of that. Finally another popped up! Was half the price, was tempted to make an offer but they kept dropping the price so I decided to wait it out a little bit longer. Got under $60 and I pulled the trigger. Very happy with it!

I stalked this jacket for awhile too since it was my first rD weekend. Had the same experience where the asking prices were ridiculous.

I am still keeping an eye out for the "I Did It!" goofy shirt from that weekend, but I'm not holding out much hope since there are so few goofys and that was a smaller year for numbers.

I used a few of them up this year. Were perfect for wearing during the first few km before warming up after my top layer was dropped in the corral.

I really wanted that one too as it was my first Dopey - but I’ve bought so many running jackets since then…… I just couldn’t get another one right?
