Marathon Weekend 2025

Aaaand that's how you wrangle an extra day at Disney, folks! I'm *shocked* that a DVC night showed up this close to the weekend. DS1 said he would get up super early to drive us to the airport and then be in charge, MIL is coming over earlier and will relieve DS1 so he can drive back to college.

And DH says to me "Hey maybe we can use our extra day to get in line for that cookie place!" I swear we share a brain....it's what almost 20 years of marriage will do!

And now I have to switch flights, re-book the rental car, and then frantically finish the cleaning because I'm losing an entire day for that!
It is tight but it is fun!!
Good luck with fine tuning details :)

I changed my flight from Tuesday 7th to Sat 4th under the excuse of being ready for any storm/weather changes, and DVC having some last minute availability :)

I didn't enter a POT so I assume I'll be in one of the last corrals - is there any strategy to make it the best as possible to do a PR as best for the half-marathon? Should I aim to get to the front of the corral? Wait until the absolute end (I doubt this would be a good idea).

what race? and, when you registered what did you put in for pace per mile (5k/10k) or estimated finish time (HM, M)? We should be able to estimate your corral and give tips depending on those because there are definitely some choke-points on course

Whoops, HM. I selected 3:16-3:30 - I got in a couple weeks ago off a Twitter alert, so I just inserted random info quickly and luckily, I was able to successfully register. In theory, I'd see myself at 2:15-2:25 pace, so wondering how 'difficult' it'd be since I assume I'll be in one of the last corrals.

It’s definitely possible, just not necessarily enjoyable. In 2017 I didn’t enter a POT, and ran the W&D half from corral F in 1:41. It involved lots of weaving and running on the shoulder, and I never could settle into a steady pace. But if you really want to run at your pace from the later corrals, bring your patience and be safe moving through the crowd.

OK. So what you selected is the last corral. Start with knowing that there are going to be a lot of bodies in front of you and that may impede you from running however you want for the whole time. The good thing is that there are a lot of highway miles for the half, so there will be more space to spread out and get around other runners more easily.

Your bigggest choke point will be "cone alley" which is the stretch from approximately the poly to MK. They shut the road down to one lane, and then it appears we are using the grand floridian walkway to MK, which is also quite narrow.

Ditto to what zutory said about moving safely through the crowd.

If you want to run fast and have a good time while you're at it, you could always join the Dead Last Start (DLS) crew. There's a significant number of people who wait until everyone else has started, including the balloon ladies, to begin their race, with the goal to pass as many people as they can by the finish. Many of them donate money to charity for each person they pass, and they turn in some very fast times while they're at it. As long as you're comfortable safely passing people along the way, this might be a way for you to really enjoy the race.

I finally finished packing, as my flight is tomorrow evening! I squeezed everything into a 40lb check bag, 30lb duffel, and my roller carry on (which I wanted to leave behind but ultimately decided I need as I am working remote one day and need to bring my laptop and monitor). Pretty sure 1/4 of the bags are throwaways, 1/2 running outfits (probably like 30 running outfits if I am being honest about how many layers I packed  ), and 1/4 actual clothes for the parks. Hopefully the stuff I'm tossing will leave enough space for what I purchase.

Packing for possible cold race weather is exhausting! Now watch me end up running in a t shirt and shorts every race. I hope the races are cold, or I'll be mad I wasted so much time packing :rotfl:

Never heard of this, thank you! When you say passing, does it simply mean passing/running by or would this method also include a lot of weaving in/out?

Best anticipate a fair bit of weaving in and out starting from the back. Running along the grass, if you’re comfortable doing so, is not a bad way to try and keep a more consistent pace! As long as you’re not trying for a PB and you don’t mind a bit of stop / starting you’ll have a blast. Enjoy the race and the atmosphere!

Just got back from my morning run where I was trying to beat the Florida sun and some kind lady commented to me how nice it must be to run in the cold. Meanwhile, I had just been thinking that it felt warmer than I expected and hoped that it wasn’t this warm next Sunday for the marathon. It was 60 🤣

My question is not running related, but it is definitely Disney Marathon related! When my runner has photos taken by the Disney photographers along the course, those photos will go into their PhotoPass account just like other photos, so that I will be able to see and download them with my memory maker entitlement, right? Or will we need to pay extra to get those photos?

You will be able to download them like normal. You can enter up to 5 bib numbers per race.

Race photos are included in memory maker but one of you will need to link to the bib.

Instructions per the digital guide:
To link your photos, you will need to enter the 11-digit RaceID followed by your 5-digit bib number. If your bib number is less than 5 digits, please add zeros at the beginning of your bib number to complete the 16-digit code.

See below for RaceIDs; replace the x’s with your bib number to complete the code:
