Marathon Weekend 2025

Another question, I’m a makeup free runner. But I was thinking of maybe doing some mascara or eyeshadow/eyeliner since I’m going to be dressing up. Any suggestions of products? I was thinking maybe something waterproof since I’m a sweater.

Man Disney putting all the details on their certification spoiled me. Rocket City posts their certification but they don't have all the diagrams to reference.

Also today was introduced to the product that helps make jackets somewhat rain repellent thanks to REI. Which is great since not all of my race jackets are built that way. And I didn't really want to toss a 100 dollars down on a jacket I will barely wear.

Umm…why is the map from the guide and the usatf map so different in the mile markers??? Compare mile 20 for example. I was reviewing the map yesterday trying to estimate the water stop locations and noticed some of the mile markers seemed off, but yikes, this is worse than I expected.

This is especially bad for mile 17 for everyone who is trying to figure out exact pace for Expedition Everest. This puts it at about mile 17.7 and the Disney map put it at mile 17. Not the biggest deal in the grand scheme of things, but can throw people off.

I'm running the Dallas BMW Half Marathon this Sunday as well! I'm also doing the 8K on Saturday to complete the weekend series. The best part is that my two running besties are flying in from FL and Chicago to run with me (and both are also doing Dopey next month)!
Nice! If you want to say hi before the race, feel free to DM me. Would be fun to meet up! The weather is looking to be warmer than I would like, but I guess it will be good practice for Disney...

The map shared a while back seems more similar to the USATF map. I’ve sent an email asking which one is accurate. I’d really like an accurate one with water stops so I can plan my fueling.

I’ll let yall know what I hear back.

Still thinking this has the potential to be a pinch point. Sharp turn in a tight area then small bridge. Mile 4 something for the Half and 8 something for the Full. Guess we'll see!

Oh that’s not going to be fun 😬. I’m going to need hang right the whole way into it and then hope that rectangle is just enough to basically U-turn in. There is no way my handcycle is going to make that sharp left. Going to have tohope people are paying enough attention because I literally have no choice on how to navigate that turn.

This is why we’ve been trying to get runDisney FL to give us bike guides for years.

I forgot to say - big ups to @fatmanatee and whoever posted the timing document (think it was @DopeyBadger ) for helping me with timings. Its giving me some comfort in maybe going on EE which is a big thing for me. The idea of a rollercoaster on a marathon really is a one-off. I'll be regaling friends with that story forever.

I'll use their advice but have tried to come up with some fail-safe for my head. If the lovely Balloon Ladies start at 5:30 with a 16 minute mile pace, they'll hit EE at 17.5 miles at (roughly) 10am. Allowing a safety margin of 30 minutes to ride it (in case I'm not allowed straight on), if I'm not at EE by 9:30, forget it.

"Caution runners, course narrows ahead!"
Just a heads up, they had changed the announcements at Wine and Dine. Biggest change was switching runners to athletes, but the intonation also changed. It totally threw my 7 year old off, who's used to saying "Caution runners, speed bump ahead" whenever we run up to a speed bump during training.

What? This is almost as disappointing as not running through World Showcase at the end of the marathon.

SAFD - This has been a LONG training cycle for me. I walked the Jimmy Fund Walk (which follows the Boston marathon course) back at the beginning of October so I've been maintaining that fitness for the past couple of months. Looking back, while I was able to fit my training and I'm going into Dopey strong and ready (thanks to Customized Training and Chris Twiggs), it definitely wasn't a great idea. But at this point, I'm in taper mode. I finished my last Dopey simulation today (6-13-26) and only have one long run over 5 miles between now and race day.

All of that said, I'm pretty sure that this is going to be my last marathon - if not forever, then at least for a while. I know that a lot of people say this at this point in marathon training, but I've thought it through and decided that I just don't like the marathon distance. I don't like the training. I don't like going the distance in races. I don't like how I feel afterward. And today I realized that I don't like giving up the other parts of my life that I have to when I'm training for a marathon. So going forward, I'm looking at half marathons or less. I'm already thinking about Marathon Weekend 2026, but I'm looking forward to cheering on Marathon Sunday.

I think this is reasonable! I feel the opposite this training cycle. My first marathon was in 2018 and I said the same thing- I'll never do another full. I've done a bunch of half marathons between then and now and this will be my second marathon, but after training for Dopey, I want to do at least a marathon a year. I am using a slightly modified Higdon plan for Dopey which peaks at 58 MPW next week and I think building up to that distance is contributing to my loving the training, lol. I also don't have kids and my husband has said he doesn't mind my long runs on the weekend, so that also plays a factor.

I'm feeling this right now too, as a lot of new issues have cropped up this training cycle. I blame perimenopause, but I've also experienced some massive life changes since I last trained for a marathon just 2 years ago. I LOVED spectating it last year after running the first three races, so I'm thinking I'll revert to that at least every other year. I was worried about FOMO for the challenges, but it really wasn't a big deal, aside from missing the ears.

Welcome to the Dark Side! I came to the same realization training for my last marathon two years ago. Honestly? The first marathon weekend after making the call was a little tough: mentally, I missed the long, long distance training, but physically I felt so much better and had so much more time for other things I enjoy in life. I spectated the marathon, though , and that was just as enjoyable - maybe even more enjoyable tbh - as running it myself. It really solidified for me that I’d made the right decision. I assume I’ll never do a full again, and I’m not even sure I'll do any more halfs after this one, and I’m really, really good with that!

I really feel this, especially the part I bolded. This year I only signed up for the half (will DNS though) and I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom I had this fall! Last year we gave up a hiking trip out west because it was interfering with my marathon training schedule. 😣 I have been reassessing my running goals as I’m struggling with some injuries and realizing how much I’d love to focus on 10 milers (favorite distance) with the occasional half thrown in. I’m done with the marathon.
