Marathon Weekend 2024

I don’t think food is an issue going through security, but for peace of mind I’d put it in checked bag so they don’t pull you aside for having baggies of white powder. 🤣
This. THIS is why I'm asking. If I were going through my tiny local airport, I wouldn't worry about it. But we are flying out of Detroit. I'd like to avoid a body-cavity search. :rotfl2:

FWIW I fly regularly with multiple baggies of white powder (collagen, creamer, and occasionally protein powder but the color varies) in a carryon through multiple large airports and have never had a problem/been stopped. It just takes one time to be held up by it though, so if you have the option to check it can’t hurt, but usually I only fly with a backpack.

I’m packing protein powder for post-race nutrition. But my container is a huge Costco-sized one, so I’m portioning it out into ziplocks. Is this better put in a checked bag or a carry-on?

Checked. My running coach was with someone who had issues with bringing a sealed bag of sugar in their carry-on bags. It might have been a one-time thing, but why risk it.

On the flip side, checked bags can get lost. Carry on any must have items for the races.

@Herding_Cats - since you’re portioning it out, maybe split it up?

(I once got my bag searched because it was full or funko pops. 🤣)

Yeah. Once I brought baking supplies (flour, confectioner's sugar) with me on a trip and that triggered things. This past week I also learned that Chocolate Swiss Buttercream Frosting--even if frozen--is considered a liquid, and subject to the 3 oz rule. Lemon Curd, too. (It was for a Buche de Noel and a Lemon Curd Tart) Fortunately, I scoped this out in advance and checked it.

On the way home, my bag was flagged through security--2 bags of whole decaf coffee beans in a lunch cooler. It was hand searched and deemed not to be a risk.

Anyone else last-minute Amazon-ing costume pieces?! I had a sudden “need” for a lightsaber that actually, you know… lights up. :rotfl:

I’m also drying my final load of pre-races running clothes, and that forecast is still WAY too variable to make any calls, so yeah - I really am just going to pack it all. Skirt, capris, light tights, thermal tights - all of ‘em. And warm throwaway layers because after years of warm races, I really MUST throw some of the throwaway collection that’s built up! I won’t even begin to attempt a single suitcase, because it’s not happening. :rotfl2:

My second suitcase is just throwaways, including the suitcase, so this time I really have to actually use the stuff instead of just hoarding it all for…years… 🤦‍♀️

So I went back and checked last years email + last years thread for dates. They were available 1/2. Last years email said they’d be available Friday 12/30.
So it sounds like we're not getting them today? It looks like they carried over inconsistent information from last year.
