Marathon Weekend 2024

1. I generally prefer minimalism in graphics, but I LOOOOVE these!
2. Nobody get all excited, because rD has a long history of making pretty art that has no basis in reality, but… notice how the half and full art indicate start, middle, and finish locations? Could they run the half as sort of reverse Dark Side, going EP-DHS-MK?? I’d think no way, but… the full sure seems to also indicate MK finish, with AK early and DHS-EP in the middle. Mileage-wise it could totally be done… but the logistics of the full finishing at “MK”, even if that actually means TTC, seems nuts! Still, it’s an exciting idea!

Is it even possible to have a 10k that runs from MK to Epcot or vice versa? With park time for either? I'm not sure I would read that much into it, they might just be including park icons as part of the design.
I think maybe if you started in the MK parking lot?

Theoretically yes - we hit 4ish miles at the MK toll plaza on some traditional half & full routes. So plant a finish at TTC and a call it “MK” and it could be done, albeit almost entirely highway.

I don't know that "theme" is really the right term, but it's what we're using.

Last year's was blatantly 90s 80s stuff.

This year there are park icons in ALL of the shirts.
There's some initial speculation that maybe the icons for each race are going to be indicative of the course. For example:
- the 5k only has epcot,
-the full/goofy/dopey have all 4 icons

but where this theory gets iffy is:
-the HALF has epcot, mk, and a dinosuar on it? Does that mean AK, or the dino in the pond in HS? OK so I looked and it's clearly Gertie from HS. And what's the deal with the boat? (Or is my memory really bad and that boat is also in HS?)
-the 10k has MK and Epcot. Does that indicate going back to the older W&D 10k course that started in MK?

And last year the 10k had all of the park icons.

It's nice that it's a cohesive set, and that touches in all of the pics have consistent parts (fireworks, the lines with the white dots, etc)
Very interesting. I was just going to point out that the dinosaur is definitely Gertie. The artwork seems to indicate that the HM will be finishing at MK based upon the spires. I suppose that they can devise a route that starts at Epcot, goes through DHS and ends at MK, but I wouldn't think that they would deviate from the traditional HM route for MW.

Well that doesn't seem like fun lol. Anyway I'm all about them doing something interesting with some of these but it seems to go against the grain of where RD has been going lately with all starts and finishes at Epcot. I can't expect that they'll do anything different here. Worth noting that the HM route is kind of iconic for what it does. Does a route that ends at MK get you down Main Street and through the castle?

 Reading through the virtual race descriptions. Whoever is in charge of these things needs to do a better job of copy and paste from last year's event.

APPARENTLY, the marathon participants will get THREE shirt and THREE medals. Which is exactly what the goofy and dopey description says too.
Thats normal rundisney missteps lol.

A major change in the courses - like the start & finish - would probably be enough to get me to do more than the half next year - however, since we won't know for another 8 - 9 months, I don't have to worry about it! :)

I am going to reply to myself with a thought I had...I wonder if having the Disneyland races the week after MW make it impossible for RunDisney to appropriately staff a race at Castaway?
I don't buy that. Castaway started in 2015 and Disneyland held a race weekend that same weekend then as well (Light Side). runDisney was able to do both from 2015-2017 before they canceled races.

Been away from the board for a little bit since January. Been so busy with my son's baseball and work, plus trying to start up a little side business, it has been crazy. But jumping back in!!!

Since we will be empty nesters come this summer, my wife and I were planning to do W&D weekend, but we decided to pass and do a different trip. So now MW 2024 is our target. I am hoping to get in for Dopey again this year. My wife decided Dopey is not for her. She did not like waking up early every day. So she is going to try to register for only the half marathon and relax the rest of the trip. Let's get to running!!!
