Marathon Weekend 2024

Found this on the WDW website. May have to try it out this trip depending on the pricing.

Walt Disney World Resort hotels also offer dry cleaning and valet laundry services. Select "Housekeeping" on your in-room phone to schedule a pick-up. Laundry bags and price lists are located in your Guest Room closet. If you are a Guest staying at Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney's Old Key West Resort or Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, please drop off your dry cleaning or laundry with Bell Services prior to 9:00 AM.

Services are charged to your room and are payable at the Front Desk upon checkout. If you've elected to put a credit card on file for room charges, you will receive an itemized bill on the morning of your departure. If you have questions about your bill, you can visit the Front Desk; otherwise, your card will be charged automatically.

I posted this question in the resorts forum, but figured the running group may also relate. Do you guys use any type of laundry service during MW? We are going to be at WDW for a longer stay this year. I really don't want to pack more clothes on top of my running clothes. In addition, my wife is not a fan of my running clothes sitting around afterward (even though I do put them in a garbage bag, LOL). I was hoping there is some type of laundry service that would pick up your clothes at your resort and then bring them back.
The nice thing about running gear is that it is thin and doesn't take up much room. Other than shoes, everything I needed for the Dopey, plus clothes for 2 travel days, fit into a carry-on (that will fit in an overhead bin). Since I was driving, I took extra shoes and threw them into a tote bag. My travel and post-race park clothing was more running gear, so still thin and small in the suitcase. I take with me several plastic grocery bags, and after a race, everything goes into one and I tie it closed to keep the smell in. At the end of the stay, I put the bags of worn clothing into the truck and now the sneakers can go into the main suitcase. I've never thought about doing laundry during a trip to WDW, even when we've stayed longer and had kids along. We just take enough clothes and bags for the stuff that has been worn.

Meanwhile my checked bag was 49lb, and I had a full carry on and full underseat bag for Dopey this year :rotfl2: Granted I had my work laptop equipment as well, but I’ll have those again next year. I’m still trying to decide if I’ll do laundry or just haul two suitcases for Dopey to Dumbo this year. All my throwaway clothes take up so much room (not thin!) and I don’t come home any lighter due to race shirts and merch. California is often cold in January so may need more layers….as a chronic overpacker I’m dreading the packing. This year I had a new Dopey sweatshirt and I didn’t even pack it as it was heavyweight and there just wasn’t room:rotfl:

.... says someone who obviously doesn't wear costumes when they do rD races!

My original plan for January was to swing by home for a few days between WDW and DL, but that was shot to hell when we moved from Salt Lake to Vermont. So now I am also in a "how do I pack for this?" dilemma. I can send a chunk of the WDW stuff home with DH on Sunday (he isn't traveling to CA with me). But that still means hauling the DL things to Florida and California and back. Since I'm at a Marriott for DL races and DH has mega status, I may look at mailing myself a box from home that they could hold until I arrive. I could then mail a box back home to myself after that weekend.

It may just be cheaper to buy what non-race things I need in California! LOL

This is exactly why I fly Southwest. I usually end up checking my overhead bag and throwing my underseat into the overhead and carrying souvenirs (and Gideon’s cookies) in my reusable Gideon’s cooler bag (which zips closed) as my underseat on the way home. My grandma always says I look like a bag lady when I come home from Disney 🤣🤣

I think I learned it from someone on here, but I was running out of space on the way home so I put all my medals from Dopey (in socks) inside my winter coat pockets! Future tip especially for my fellow C2Cers, coming home with 10+ medals, coat pockets make good luggage space and don't count towards your items :rotfl2:

I feel like my winter coat is lacking in pockets now. I use my two pockets for mittens. Your coat must be like Hagrid's.

This was why I was aiming for a 1BR DVC room in Florida, so I can do laundry before leaving for Cali. That way, I can pack for a one week trip instead of a two week trip.

Well, yeah. I wasn't thinking about costumes.
And yes, I do that also. No, nothing that even comes close to the works of art that you run in....

Crud, now I have to step up my costuming game. Which means I probably need to take the rest of this post over to the costume thread.

Yep, I'll be in a DVC as well. But my issue is costumes and additional layers I may need for Anaheim weather. I am going to try and reuse costume pieces as much as possible. Guess I should figure out what my costumes are!

Good morning runDisney All-Stars! It is time for this week’s Sundays are for Disney question. I was asked this at work this last week and I thought it would be good to put up for SAFD - Why do you run?

My answer: I run because it is part of my identity now, I love having goals to work towards and races to train for. Also we have created runcations based on races. This fall it will be DC. But most important to me is the feeling of completion that washes over me just as I finish a run. Hard to explain but it is just a genuine sense of satisfaction and accomplishment whether a quick run or a long run that gets me back out there every time. Which is what I got to go do right now. Have a good week all!

SAFD: I run for many reasons...
  • For my health, especially as I get older (recently turned 43)
  • For a sense of accomplishment (I'm often coming home from a run of 7,8,9 or 10+ miles before my wife gets out of bed for the day)
  • Keep active (I enjoy doing things and being busy)
  • To have goals (I am still pushing myself to see if I can get faster)
  • Competition (there is always an adrenaline rush on race day, even if I am just competing against myself)
I'm sure there are other reasons, but those are the first ones that come to mind.
