Marathon Weekend 2023

I see SO MANY people who love PP, and I absolutely will say that when DH and I went there (shortly after they re-opened from the c-word closure) I wasn't impressed and was borderline disappointed. I might have to re-try it in January, but I'm on the fence.
Barbecue is definitely a hot button cuisine and the quality and preference is always eye of the beholder. People will go to a Texas Monthly Top 50 and say it’s nothing special or even bad.

I’m certainly no expert (and definitely not a BBQ snob) but I’ve always found things relatively impressive for the quantity and speed they have to serve at Polite Pig. That said, I can definitely picture how things could go wrong with mass produced barbecue. Maybe I’ve been lucky (I usually go there for early-ish lunch so maybe I’m getting the first prep of the day) but I’ve always found the quality pretty decent.

Right. I completely agree that it's a potentially very polarizing segment of food. In our case, everything was dry or, in the case of my sides, overcooked and somehow still not hot when it got to us. It was also toward the end of a trip with a toddler, during the "mask at all times" timeline, and it was raining and very crowded inside, and just a lot of factors converging to make a not-great experience. We will probably try it again simply because of its proximity to our resort for our stay, and my desire to NOT have table service every.single.day.

I AM a BBQ snob (being from Kansas City, MO), but I can appreciate a decent attempt. We went and ate at the PP owners' flagship restaurant in Orlando proper before we ever tried PP and it was fantastic! PP is a good fast casual version, and certainly worth eating, but I wouldn't hold it up to anything in KCMO or the full restaurant. (Don't even get me started on the brisket at the American pavilion FW festival booth the last few years. 🤢 )

I was swept around 11.7 this year. That was the bus after MK. FWIW, you can’t really predict where the spots will be as they could change the course.
Oh, I know - I've been doing these races long enough to know the courses can change! But without that knowledge now, I was just wondering if anyone recalled this year's setup. A bus outside MK makes sense. I keep thinking there was a bus waiting at the turn onto Bear Island Rd, but may be mixing that up with some other race that uses that route. Odds are I won't want to bother with it all, given the option of a monorail right back to my car, though.

SAFD: Sorry, there is absolutely nothing Mickey could bring me from WDW QS that I'd actually want over what's in my house right now lol! Eating at WDW is, for me, something I only do out of convenience, not desire. If forced to get something, the veggie skewer from the Riviera QS is pretty decent.

I believe this youtube clip shows a bus waiting at the exit towards Bear Island Rd towards Western Way at Mile 13 and change.

Many of you likely saw but runDisney put out a reminder today about the POT deadline. It is coming up - 9/27/22.

Salt in the wound for me after a disaster of a POT effort this past Sunday! But I have an older one I can use one last time.
I was going to post the same thing!

I updated mine and made sure to take a screen shot of it on my iPad in case RD messes up.

Thanks for the reminder since my email is a mess! I don’t have POT, but I should probably confirm all the selections I quickly made during registration…

Did everyone see that merchandise pre-orders are now also available for princess weekend? Not a lot, but something. I wonder if we’re too close to Marathon Weekend for it to be offered for us.

Was wondering the same thing!

SAFD- I second the No Way Jose from Beaches and Cream! Yum, yum, yummy! My second choice would be chocolate mousse from the Patisserie in France and if I had to pick actual food, I'd go with Satuli Canteen.

saw that too.... and I'm low key jealous that princess gets a magnet/pin bundle which is my go-to where as Springtime Surprise just had 3 pin bundles for each distance

Can someone remind me - am I able to pickup someone else’s packet? I think I remember that not being an option, but just wanted to confirm.

SAFD: The veggie Bao Buns from Satu’li were excellent. I’m not sure they still have them. I’ve only had the Triple Suns Breakfast Wrap from Ronto Roasters, but it was really, really good. I’d like to try the Zuchii Wrap next time. Also, the Felucian Kefta and Hummus Garden Spread from Docking Bay 7 was delicious. I would like all of these delivered, along with a Dole Whip, please.

They cut the bao buns for a while all together before returning the cheeseburger ones… I still morn the curry ones…
The zucchini rontos are good though I hear the plant based rontos in California are better
