Marathon Weekend 2023

Ive used his half and marathon plans and had great results. just wondered about the dopey plan. Thank you
I would have done something like this for my training plan (specifically: going with a longish run on Saturday then a distance run roughly double that on Sunday, rooted in Nike's marathon plan) but things got thrown out of whack for me with a medical issue so I ended up having to play catchup and gave up on the Dopey-specific plan. I say give it a shot and if you feel like it's too much, scale back to his marathon plan, which also works well enough for Dopey.

Has anyone used Hal higdons dopey plan? Pros cons?
Looking at the dopey plan, the peak mileage is 42.5 miles. On the intermediate 2 plan it is 50 miles with a little pace work and you have 2 of those 50 mile weeks. The intermediate 1 has 2 peak weeks at 43 miles. Advanced starts with even more speed work and miles just go up. It seems like the dopey plan is designed to get you across the line but if you have the experience and time for a marathon plan, you may end up better prepared by using one of those.

I'm SURE this has been asked and answered, but I'm not here all that much. Does anyone have a best guess as to approximately when registration will open up? I just want to know when I should start paying attention.

Based on historical dates, my best guess would be April. That's just a guess, though. Actual registration dates in the time I've been running Marathon Weekend (since 2016) have ranged from February to July.

I would agree with @camaker and say April. It has bounced around the last few years but traditionally it was April. I think Disney is trying to get back to normal, at least a new normal. And that would mean registration in April.

If Marathon registration is (hopefully) going to be in April this year, then when will W&D registration open? I think that runDisney would want at least a month between registrations, so that would imply W&D registration would begin in March. Given that it's mid February now that may not happen.

SAFD (very late)

Good Morning runDisney All-Stars! It is Sunday, so time for SAFD.

Question: Do you have a favorite/must do quick service restaurant on property? Which one and why?

There's not a must do for me for quick service because I can get mac & cheese and chicken tenders pretttttty much anywhere. But some I've enjoyed that don't fall under that typical amusement park food have been Pecos Bill and Cookes of Dublin

Good Morning runDisney All-Stars! For today’s Sundays Are For Disney it’s time to put ourselves on the runDisney staff.

What is something you would change with runDisney to improve the runner experience?

I would move the Proof of Time back where it is more reachable. There are certainly lots of you fantastic runners going well under 1:53 in the Half Marathon to qualify a “postable” time for Dopey. But there are too many runners left on the wrong side of that time. Leaving some corrals overpacked with very different pacing abilities = a hot mess. Moving pace requirements back to 2:15, 2:30 and 2:45 would really help to smooth that issue out. Plus it is fun to work towards a goal of a qualifying time, And for a runDisney race those times seem more appropriate. Have a good week!

I think that a better handling of the POT would definitely help a lot of things, you discussed. It wouldn't be perfect (we all know that people's personal situations can change and that injuries or how you are approaching a race can change) but it would definitely help.

I also feel like offering pre-orders for more of the merch at the expo would be helpful. I totally understand that they have to close things at a certain point to be able to process everything, but this is also a situation where everything that is pre-ordered IS SOLD ALREADY so they're going to make money. This year is definitely an outlier with the supply chain issues, but complaints about stuff selling out quickly have definitely not been limited to just this year's races.

SAFD: with part of PoT already covered, I’d address the other half and move the deadline for race & submission to the Tuesday after the Chicago marathon. That’s a popular one for people to use for a qualifying time, and I’d like rD to allow people to use it again like they did in the past.

SAFD: My answers have already been taken (PoT and Merchandise pre-Orders).
I know this has been talked about a lot, but I’d like to see both the Marathon and Half Marathon course adjusted to have more time in DHS. I know that’s easier said than done, but I’m sure runDIsney can figure it out!

SAFD: I would like better communication out of rD. I would like them to say that they will open registration on this day, the digital guide will be posted on this day, the corrals will look like this, etc. Also, we have x number of spots left, and when they are sold, the race is closed. I don’t like checking repeatedly to see when the guide posts, checking to see if a “sold out” race has reopened, etc. Just be straight with us, and stop making us guess what’s happening.
