Marathon Weekend 2023

Hoping to do 10k and half next year. Put in a request to rent points. Hopefully something will come through. Otherwise I’ll be at pop or as movies.

There are rumors at work swirling that our store will be closing for a remodel in early 2023 and a part of me is wondering if things get confirmed before registration is announced could I swing taking a loooong vacation before my transfer

the dates seems SOOOO early for 2023. So close to NYE. I know it's just how it falls but ughhhhh

Highly recommend anyone going to parks plan to do them after Marathon Weekend rather than before/during if at all possible. The worst Disney crowds I've ever experienced, by a wide margin, were in the week after Christmas-week of New Year's span. I realize some people like early Marathon Weekend because the timing works out better to avoid taking time off work or taking kids out of school but, beyond the parks being crowded, the race weekend/ambience/experience feels like more of an afterthought in the wake of the Holidays.

Good morning runDisney All-Stars! It is Sunday, so time for Sunday’s Are For Disney. Today’s question:

When you are on property at WDW, and not for a runDisney event, do you get in a run or two? Do you utilize a fitness center or run on property? Where would you recommend?

I really enjoy running on property. And try to get in a couple runs when staying for a non-runDisney vacation. For years the family stayed at Pop Century so I used the trail around the lake btwn Pop and AOA. Very nice early morning run. This past MW we stayed at Wilderness Lodge and I was really excited to try the trail between WL and Fort Wilderness that I had heard about…. Sadly it is closed at the edge of the WL property. WL still provided a running path along the lake but to get in several miles required much looping! Next trip to WL I will take a boat over to Fort Wilderness and try a run there, seems like it would be a good place.

SAFD:
I never been to Disney while I have been training for a run. I never really been a runner till recently, it was always just been dryland training for my competive sports when I was a ski racer and swimmer. I have a trip to Aulani in July and I am looking forward to running along the lagoons there. In Thanksgiving I will be staying at Kandi for a week long trip and will need to run but AKV does not have a running path... so may have to go on dreaded treadmill. Might try to go to another resort to run, we shall see.

SAFD:

Unless I'm injured I try to always run on vacation. If I'm on property I'll run at my resort and I try to get to the Boardwalk area to do a run since that is my favorite place to run at Disney. During our spring trip I have a 10ish mile course plotted out in Celebration to go check that city out on foot.

SAFD: I have and feel like I always plan to (i.e. pack the gear) but more often than not it stays in the suitcase while I am there. We have a tendancy to be a rope drop family and I don't want to wake everyone up with me going out for a run before that. Plus after a day or two my legs are already heavy from walking the parks so it adds to my desire to skip it.

SAFD: Whether or not I run on a Disney vacation depends on where I'm at in my training, and whether I'm traveling with friends. Sometimes I'll use my vacation to get a break from structured training, and might not even bring my running clothes. But if I'm at a key point in training, or traveling solo, I'll take the opportunity to enjoy running at Disney! A couple times recently I've stayed at the Hilton Palace next to Disney Springs, and ran the paths at Saratoga Springs and Old Key West. I had a particularly amusing 14 miler where I just had to get lost and run a lot of loops in order to get in all the miles! It was super convenient though because I knew I'd be able to refill my water bottle here and there, and even buy water or gatorade from vending machines on my way if needed.

SAFD: I try not to run on vacation unless im in the middle of training for something. I value my downtime too much. At Disney, it’s easy to get plenty of mild exercise walking through the parks. That’s good enough for me.

SAFD: I actually haven’t stayed multiple nights on Disney property in years. My parents used to live in Orlando so when I would visit we would just go to the park for a day and I would run around their neighborhood. Now they live in Tampa. My last overnight trip was my bachelorette party, but it was just one night and there was definitely no running happening!

When I go on other vacations, I try to get a run in because I like to explore that way. But sometimes I will just workout in the gym area. I also like to go to yoga classes in new cities.
