Marathon Weekend 2021

SAFD: MK... the park I love to hate lol! On a quiet day, it's wonderful escapism. I have fond memories of my first visit in 1977: the Arcade on Main St., POTC, waiting in line 2+ hours to ride Space Mtn, Country Bears. And lots of great memories from hard-ticket parties with my son when he was little: Pirate & Princess, MNSSHP, MVMCP. We have our favorite rides, for sure: People Mover, HM, BTMRR. And our favorite table at CHH.

Like other shave said, the crowds keep me from spending a lot of time in MK nowadays. And the overall noise. I visited in late Aug. and the low crowds plus no parades or shows was blissful - being able to hear the ambient music and sounds took me right back in time. My recent Dec. visit was back to "normal" and we only lasted a few hours. :(

Good morning runDisney all-stars!

I hope your holidays are going well and you're getting some quality time with your families. For this week's Sundays are for Disney, what are your goals and hopes for 2021? They can be Disney-related or just life in general.

Have a safe and healthy week, everyone!
SAFD: Honestly, I have no plans or goals. There are just too many unknowns, so I'm making no plans at all. No idea when or if I'll be able to get the COVID vaccine, so at the moment, 2021 looks exactly like my current 2020. Basically, my only hope is that I will be able to be vaccinated - then I can think about other things.

We have one more park to talk about and you know I saved the best for last! For this week's Sundays are for Disney, it's all about Magic Kingdom. What do you love about it - favorite attractions and shows? Favorite spots to grab a bite? Best memories?

I genuinely could sit and just watch everything that happens along Main Street and feel like I got everything out of Magic Kingdom that I want. There is no better feeling than walking through the gates the flag pole area and just... listening to the sounds and looking at the castle and the people. I want to be there.

My one MUST for MK food is a sundae from the ice cream parlor. If I don't get one, then it didn't count.

I love space mountain and mine train. Big fan of the Philharmagic. But when it comes down to my most favorite ride that I have to do on each trip? It's Jungle Cruise. Hands down. This year my friends got me a Jungle Cruise magnet and ornament for Christmas. It's a 100/10. I also have the Jungle Cruise "J" mug that Disney was selling this past February. When I saw that my initial was Jungle Cruise I knew I HAD to have it.

I hope your holidays are going well and you're getting some quality time with your families. For this week's Sundays are for Disney, what are your goals and hopes for 2021? They can be Disney-related or just life in general.

Running Goal: sub 2:30 half marathon
Work Goal: Be back to work in-person
Life Goal: Finishing touches on the new abode

I'm sorry if I missed it somewhere - I looked, but there are ALOT of posts here. I don't understand with the virtuals when can we complete the race? Does it have to be on the date that it was scheduled to take place in Orlando? Is there a window of opportunity like there is with the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon or with the Summer Virtuals? Thank you for helping me understand.

You can do it whenever you want.

I think you can run them whenever you want. It looks like you can start to submit times (if you want, but not requires) starting tomorrow, Jan 1st.

SAFD: Well, I’ve got 3 weeks to catch up on.

Epcot: It’s my favorite park. While Future World has been pretty down for a while, World Showcase is my absolute favorite and I can easily enjoy myself for hours in end just circling it.

MK: I love Main Street. Just going into and out of the stores there. I also really like watching the glass blowers at Crystal Arts by Arribas Brothers. Haunted Mansion is fun and whileDisney coasters are by no means top tier when it comes to coasters, I still enjoy Space Mountain, BTRR, & SDMT.

Hopes & Goals 2021: Main hope, is for vaccine distribution to get better so more people can get it and things will start going back to normal. Being idealistic, I have a tentative friends vacation for August, but we’ll see about that. Running wise, my main goal is to get back to being consistent. There were three months (May, June, & December) were I just allowed my running to go to the wayside for no reason. I don’t have any racing goals really, since I have no idea when in person races will come back. When they do eventually come back, I do have a goal of doing a 50K.

Been having withdrawal symptoms since mid December, the time when usually peaking in mileage and continued through today. I looked at the weather just out of habit, looks like it would have been a great running weekend.

I totally identify with you! Normally I would be packing this weekend and getting psyched! This will be the first time since 2015 that I am not going for Marathon Weeekend. Didn’t run in 2019, but was there the week before so I am counting that.

I will be running the virtual next week, but that will be in the snow and cold of Michigan and the best I will be able to manage after each race is to watch something on Disney+. Just not the same. I am so ready for 2022.

I just started listening to the WDW 2021 Virtual Marathon Weekend playlist on Spotify and I’m sad to say it isn’t doing it for me.

Good morning, runDisney all-stars!

For this week’s Sundays are for Disney, it’s a training check-in!

How is running going for everyone in the new year? Who is training/tapering for some virtual WDW races? Or any other races? Anyone doing anything in-person?

I didn’t sign up for the virtuals, so I’ve been in maintenance mode (4-6 mile runs, typically) since October and I don’t see myself signing up for any races until in-person events return. My fingers are crossed for Lakefront Marathon returning in October.

If I can vent for a second, I got in 850 miles in 2020. Five years ago, that would’ve blown me away. But the last two years I’ve easily broken 1,000 miles. I’m determined to break 1,000 again, but I’m not signed up for anything, so I don’t know if that will happen. It’s really not very important, but I do feel a little discouraged.

Anyway, MW wasn’t going to be in the cards for me this year, but I’m going to be spending this week about how much fun I had with you all this time last year. I hope you’re all doing well.

Have a safe and healthy week!
