Marathon Weekend 2017!

Finished my slowest marathon yet, but had a blast and met some great people (including @Ariel484 ). Rode Everest (thanks to @Keels ), and that cost me 15 minutes. Stopped for every character that I saw except the big bad wolf and took pictures of every mile marker. Should have some great pictures.

Now, time for some football. Go Giants!

Marathon #10 (and Mickey #6) was highly successful for me. A 9 minute PR and a solid 3:34:49 finish. The North-bound miles slowed me with the strong headwind, but I was very happy with my even paces (see below -- sorry for the large size, I was so proud that i had to post it). Those 60 mile training weeks paid off! I was very prepared for the cold and was relatively comfortable in my corral and also during the race. That said, my first 'cool' marathon was a little too cold but definitely proved my theory that I could run much better if the temps were lower than 60+ (like all my other marathons).

I know the cold was a major challenge, but I hope everyone still had a memorable time! I thought the high school bands, cast members and volunteers were awesome, and I'm already looking forward to Mickey #7 next year. On a side note, my neighbor finished his 24th Disney Marathon -- Perfectly Mickey again. Very impressive!

Congrats to DopeyBadger on his PR and to everyone else who participated in a race this weekend. Very proud to be part of this supportive group!

I may be one of the few who wasn't super bothered by the weather. I've trained in worse at home and with the half canceled yesterday, I had two sets of throwaway clothes...so I put alllll of those clothes on.

I wasn't completely rid of all of those layers until the halfway mark. :)

Didn't think it was that bad either. Never felt like the wind was as bad as I expected.

AWESOME efforts from everyone, enjoying reading how you all did. Sounds like conditions were tough - I chuckled at the comment about the headwind for 3/4 of the way around the course.

Enjoy some well deserved rest and or fun in the parks!

Congratulations to all of the marathon participants, and everyone else who ran this weekend! It sounds like conditions this morning were tough, but for this Wisconsin girl, I'd take cold over humidity any day. Heck, I did a race in -2 degrees last winter (with wind chills in the -20s). Granted it was a 5K, but I survived.

Anyway, congrats again runners!! All of the posts from this weekend are definitely making me want to do the WDW Marathon someday. The thought of 26.2 miles is terrifying, but seeing that people completed it having only trained for a half makes me believe it's possible for someone like me. I just can't get over how amazing it would be to run that course. It's got me inspired for sure.

Dopey #4 is "officially" done. Did not make my time goal for a few good reasons. At 6 am, while on course, I checked in for my flight tomorrow morning. Multi-tasking, y'all. I had to make a potty stop inside Magic Kingdom. First potty stop during a race for me in well over 200 races. And good grief was it ever cold! I wore multiple layers and kept them on all the way. My little hands were frozen inside my gloves! I wore a beanie, running cap, and kept the hood of my jacket up all the way.

On a happy note, my bus driver let us off in the right place after the race. Woo-hoo!

One more dark thirty wake up call for me for my little ride on the Magical Express at 3:40 am.

Any healthy person can do it with the proper preparation - and that's the key, proper preparation. If you are running 5k's now and are willing to commit to the training, then go for it! The course truly is amazing and there is nothing like running it, finally hearing the gospel choir at Epcot, and completing your first marathon at Disney.

Try slipping "Hot Hands" packets inside your gloves if your hands stay cold. They were a lifesaver for me today.

Well that's it folks, first marathon in the books! I finished at 5:11 and I have to say it was quite the emotional roller coaster. I didn't log the miles I wanted to prior to the race, so I certainly was nervous going in. But I kept a pretty steady pace, stopped for a handful of characters, and was inspired by the signs and guests and volunteers. I ran my own half marathon yesterday to feel like I earned my Goofy medal and ended up PRing by 2 minutes. Thankful for all of your encouragement, you guys have been amazing, especially @DopeyBadger you rock! Congratulations to all of your accomplishments today and this weekend, you all deserve every moment of the pride it takes to tackle these races. Now time to celebrate!

PS: if you saw a girl in a purple tutu blown everywhere by the wind and fuzzy pink leopard pajama pants, that was me!! (For some reason my pictures aren't uploading)

Congratulations to all, especially those who surpassed their goals.

I finished my first marathon and am thrilled. My time was significantly slower than I would have liked, but based on all my injuries and insufficient training, I am thrilled! My time was so slow that PRing my next marathon should be easy.

And super proud of my husband who completed Dopey. Six months ago he was a couch potato.
