Marathon Weekend 2017!

Just saw some runners in tutus... I cheered on a few in my area... "YOU GOT THIS"

Way to go for all you running this morning!

Been standing outside at Saratoga watching lots of people run by in their bibs and costumes and saw/heard thunder and lightening not too far from the resort. I know its disappointing to everyone but with the weather during the middle of the night and what I just saw, they made the right call.

Well this has been an exciting ten hours! I raced off to Magic Kingdom yesterday without my reading glasses. So I wasn't checking email and was barely ready texts from my family. I went to dinner in Epcot, drove back to my resort and was getting ready for bed. I was about to lay out my half marathon attire but decided to check in with my Facebook running buds... and I read all these condolences about the half being CANCELLED!. I was THIS CLOSE to waking at 3:30am, dressing, and walking down to an empty bus line :(

My first thought was with the Goofys and the Dopeys. I LOVE that some of you ran 13.1 "off course" to compensate. :: HIGH TEN :: for creativity and gumption. To those who were running their first half marathon -- MAJOR MAJOR :: hugs ::

In OTHER news... I will running a quite cold marathon tomorrow. I need to buy supplies at the expo (what are the chances they have a warm running hat?). If you see an old guy on the course who only trained for a "fast-ish" half marathon... toss some kind words his way ;) Time for some "Adventure Marathoning" -- I *am* curious to see the route into Hollywood studios... :: yikes ::

Anybody on property hear a few loud lightening cracks last night. I woke from a deep sleep on a nearby strike!

Columbia at Disney Springs had a pretty good deal on a wind resistant jacket. You get a 10% discount being a runner. I think I paid ~$28ish??? It was marked $40 before the discount, but it rang up cheaper than that. I also bought a neck gaitor there. I also checked Fit2Run, but they did not have any Buffs or other brand neck gaiters (I mean we are in Florida...), but they did have a Mizuno wind/rain jacket that wasn't too bad a price.

Since I don't have a car and can't easily get to Walmart, I got a generic beanie for $10 (+AP discount) at MK. They are probably available at DS, also.

If I'm remembering correctly, I think I was at the last day of the expo last year or the year before, and Champion had a 25% discount going on too.

I have to make my way there today anyways, so I'm going to check that out if it's not too much of a madhouse. Refund for race retreat - I guess this is what I get for having it easy at the expo Wednesday morning. :)

I have all of the things for running in cold weather at home, but didn't bring them all with me. I brought warm-ish clothes, but didn't think I would need clothes for running in high wind, cold weather like the plains of Kansas where I'm used to running. Oh well, what's your one more set of running clothes??

Oh and so glad I threw in some capris at the last minute. Sitting around in the corrals tomorrow in a skirt would be chilly.

I just want to say I think you guys are handling this so, so well. My Facebook running groups have some really angry people who seem hellbent on making things miserable at the expo today, and it's so nice to come here and see positive attitudes.

The people doing their own 13.1 miles on their own are awesome! My 4-year heard me talking about you guys to my husband and now he's saying he has to "earn" his medal too - so if anyone has suggestions as to a place where he can run 200m without bothering anyone I'd love to hear them!

I hope runners are being cautious this morning. Running around a lake with lightening in the area seems risky.

Most certainly IS. Many people do not know that lightning can travel 10 miles or more horizontally and that is why DISNEY takes the precautionary measures of stopping a race when thunder can be heard even though the flash can not be seen.

Come over to POP :) lovely trail you could easily mark 200M on!

Yeah sitting here at Beach Club and just heard a big roll of thunder even though skies are pretty clear.

I live pretty close to Magic Kingdom and the rain there is a torrential downpour outside, thunder and lightening... I have to give it to runDisney on this one... I would have probably been just past MK right now if we started at the original start time.

Kudos to everyone running this morning! I'm hoping to get out there once this all calms down!

I am a little hopeful that *maybe* they'll have a race retreat people line for refunds for retreat/race people in addition to the everyone lines :)

Me too... that would be nice. I'm going to go after lunch, since I have an ADR at noon that I would rather not change. I don't know if that is a good thing or not... I will find out.

Just want to say how sorry I am for everyone missing out on the half today, I know I would be super disappointed. I'm very surprised & impressed on the compensation Disney is offering. Hope the expo isn't too crazy for those that need to go & people keep their behavior in check as it seems Disney made that right call to cancel based on weather reports this am.

For all those running tomorrow, Good Luck & stay warm! Poor Donald on his 20th...2018 sounds like it could be interesting on sell outs.

Thanks for the concerns as to whether I'd see the message. I did go to bed at 6:15, but right before saw that there was to be an update at 7. I happened to wake up at 7 and followed along long enough to get the necessary details.

It bums me out, but it totally seems like the right decision given what I could hear while sleeping last night and what I've heard in the last 30 minutes. I decided to take advantage and sleep in and recover so I was able to get 11 hours of sleep last night. I will likely not run today and will fully attack the full tomorrow (given the near perfect weather conditions to me, just a tad too cold and windy for me, but not by much).

Condolences to those who were unable to accomplish what they wanted to do today whatever the goal. And kudos to those who choose whatever form of the challenge or half to do instead today. Please be safe and good luck all!

I'll be taking the option to just email RunDisney on Monday. I can't make it to the Expo today, and I'm not quite sure I want to be in that mess anyway. I'm not in a rush to get anything, and I'm sure RD will come through eventually.

For everyone looking to return items to the Expo, you might want to try your resort gift shop first. I remember hearing somewhere that the runDisney merchandise was returnable at any Disney location. It might save a trip out to the Expo.

It's pouring here at POFQ right now.

Current status. Staying on 192 at the Holiday Inn. Photo taken facing north. Disney Property to the west and northwest. The Marriott is the large hotel in the distance.

At least there is a rainbow.
