Marathon Weekend 2017!

We are taking exactly the same approach - Homecoming for comfort food (at a third of the decibel level of Raglan Road) Friday evening before the half, and then Boathouse for a celebratory chill-out dinner Sunday evening after the full. I like the fact too that there are indoor and outdoor options at both places - if we have heat to deal with during the weekend races then at least we can eat outside.

I like the way you think! We are doing Homecoming on Friday evening before the 1/2 as well! The menu (and reviews) look good, and nothing TOO out of the ordinary before the race. Then we are doing Boathouse on Saturday evening as our celebratory dinner (It is also our 10 year wedding anniversary that day)!!

So, I made ADRs a while ago when I was considering register for the WDW marathon this year. In any case, I am not registering... hopefully next year when the whole world plans on running it. Therefore, I currently have the following two dining reservations that I am about to cancel:

Il Mulino (Swan) - Saturday 1/7 at 5:00pm for 4 people
Le Cellier Steakhouse (Epcot) - Sunday 1/8 at 5:50pm for 4 people

If anyone is interested in one/both of these (and you have 4 or less folks in your party), please PM me and we can coordinate a time such that I will cancel and you can quickly take the reservation once it frees up. I have done this before, and it usually works pretty well. If I don't hear from anyone in the next day, I will just go ahead and cancel.

I have only done Ohana for breakfast but do have it scheduled for dinner this trip. I also really enjoy 50s Prime Time at DHS.

We are trying Ohana for the first time this trip---it's actually my pre-marathon dinner!

I LOVE 50's Prime Time. The last time we went, we were with my sister and her family. My BIL is a (usually) reserved Brit. We had an amazing server (she actually fed him his vegetables) and then another one joined in ribbing him and we were all sore from laughing so hard by the end of the meal (which was also delicious). It was so fun, we might not ever go again...

The other favorite is a cliche--but California Grill That's our post-marathon meal!

Victoria & Alberts was our absolute favorite. So expensive, but so worth it!

Darn! I would definitely jump on that Le Cellier one but we are a part of 5. It's nice of you to offer though.

I have yet to go to many yummy signature restaurants (going to a few in January when I'm solo for a couple days!) so right now I would have to say my favorite is Le Cellier.

BTW, at some point during the last two weeks, all Goofy slots filled up, so it appears that all normal registration half marathon spots are truly gone now since you can no longer register for the half, Goofy or Dopey.

There's something weird going on. If you go through the link on rundisney.com, Goofy doesn't show up, but if you search for the WDW Marathon Weekend on active.com it does and you can still register for it.

Yes, something definitely weird. Now, if I go through the rD site, and refresh the registration page, it sometimes shows Goofy (as well as all the Race Director Challenge slots) and other times after refresh it shows only the Marathon and Kid's Races. Very odd.

I wonder if they are working on another Goofy give back or something like they did previously when they freed up more individual half and full races.

Especially since the Half is all sold out due to the anniversary.

I haven't posted on these boards since back when my husband and I were planning our Yacht Club wedding for May of 2006 (now I feel old). So to answer the current question: Raglan Road. Love it there! We are avid runners but, since we live in Canada, our fitness level takes a dive in the winter. We were looking to find a motivator to keep us going this winter and started talking about the half marathon... until we realized it was sold out. So after some talking, we signed up for the marathon yesterday (as well as hotel & flight)! I'm excited and nervous all at once! We purchased a treadmill last Boxing Day and while we know there is a huge difference between road running and treadmill running, I'm glad that we will have it so we are not running outside in freezing temperatures. I've been reading some posts on this feed and am already so thankful for the tips. We've been running all summer, but our marathon specific training starts Monday and I can't wait!

I'm sure the Anniversary may have sped things up marginally, but the Half has been selling out really quickly in each of the last few years even without an Anniversary. A Goofy give back would be nice; I'm just hoping they don't reallocate Dopey bibs before 2018 registration due to the slower sellout this year. I think the 25-5-5 (Marathon-10K-Dopey) Anniversaries will have an effect on how many people are interested in Dopey in 2018 (as the early proclamations on these boards can attest). It could sell out very quickly if they dial back the number of available bibs because of a slower year in 2017.

I agree. I am thinking Dopey 2018 might be my last hurrah. After that I might only run the half or something or hopefully go to DL for a change. We can only speculate really.

Agree with this. It's a really popular race for runDisney.

I don't think that anniversary years always* have the impact on races filling up that some of us think they do - look at Goofy in 2015 (10th anniversary, and this was the year they did the Goofy Giveback because it wasn't selling) and Tink last year (which never actually sold out, even though it was the 5th anniversary. They just stopped selling bibs).

*having said that, I think Dopey in 2018 will be a whole different animal, like you said.

Great choices all around!!! Biggest piece of advice - submit a POT by the deadline (10/4/16?) for a 10 miler or half marathon so that you're not in the last corral, regardless of what pace you end up running. Any POT really will do. Basically every corral you move up from the back buys you an extra 10 minutes of time for on-course pics, riding EE, greeting friends/family/complete strangers cheering you on along the course, etc.

And 2006 WDW wedding? You're most definitely not old...
