Marathon Weekend 2017!

JUST booked a 1 Br at SSR--wanted to do a treehouse but couldn't stand the point total. May try to switch our reservations closer to the time to Old Key West, my fave place to hang out for that week because it's all runners, I swear--although SSR is so perfectly close to Disney Springs; I booked us Tuesday through Tuesday this time. In the past we've gone Sat-Sat but we usually like to do New Years at home. We're doing what we call the slow Dopey-- in '15 we did the 5k, in 16' we did the 10k, in 17' we plan to do the Half and if we are crazy enough we'll do the full in '18! We'll be doing the Wine & Dine Challenge in November so hopefully we'll be in good shape; training in Cleveland is hard during the winter!

Cannot WAIT to see you all there :)

It just makes us tougher. :)

Would we be able to go by the expo to pick out stuff up before the kid races? They don't start until 11:00 I think.

I had a question about registration. It looks like three of us will be running in the 1/2 next January. On Registration day, do we all need our own Active.com accounts and need to log in separately? Or can we can all register together under my Active.com account?

Each adult needs their own. You can register kiddos under yours.

Really? I was able to register myself and wife for the 2016 1/2 marathon using just my account. This was April of last year. Maybe it's changed since then.

Thank you very much!

I will be the only one with access to a computer when registration opens- so I am in charge of getting us registered. Do you think my best bet would be to have all our Active.com log ins, open three different browsers, and do all three at the same time?

Yep...when I just registered for the Wine & Dine races the first thing I had to answer was whether I was registering myself or someone under the age of 18. Those were the only two options. :confused3

Thanks! Looks like I need to go register someone else on Active.com! :surfweb:

FWIW I just went out to Active.com to add a new account, but before I did that I checked my account and there's a selection under profile for adding family members [friends] for registration. On the surface this appears to let you enter multiple adults under one account, but again I have no first hand experience if this actually works. So, it could be a RunDisney front-end check/edit? I'll still set up the other account to be on the safe side!

Random curiosity, for Dopey are all our corral times based on one PoT (in my case I will be submitting a half for PoT) and they scale it accordingly for the various races??

As far as I know when you register it asks you if you are registering yourself or someone under 18, and it never let's you select other members you have in active that over 18 and not yourself. So, while active has that option I don't think it does you any good for RunDisney adults registering. This started with Darkside registration as far as I know (we had some snafus on my parents registrations so we learned one account wouldn't work at that time anymore), and people who used one account for multiple people have all the registrations in their name actually and not the names they thought they were changing it too. So, yes the safest is to each have an account if an adult.

Yes, but they don't really scale it to each race, they base it all on what it calculates to for your full as far as I know, (McMillan calculator for the most part). If you are in a top corral for the full/half you will be in a top one for the 5k/10k. You are placed for the half/full based on what that half calculates to for your full time so it may seem you are pushed back a couple corrals in the half since it's basing it on your full time estimate. Not sure on the 5k/10k exactly, seems it just takes so many in the top corrals from the half/full and sticks them in A, then the next group of corrals in B, and so on.

Injury bug hit this last week. Totally my fault and totally avoidable. My shoes had been getting worn, especially the heel of my left shoe. Waited too long to get a new pair. Went out yesterday for the first time with my new shoes and by mile 3, I couldn't put weight on my left foot any more (it had been hurting a bit in the runs this week). So, I guess I'm taking a little time off. I have a half on May 1 and am hoping the sore foot feels good enough to run on in the next few days.

Any tips on speeding up the recovery would be greatly appreciated!

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I'm not an expert, but it depends on the injury. My only advice is the same as you've already self-prescribed. Take a few days off (maybe a week) and then return slowly for a few days to see if you're back to normal. The worse thing you can do is to try and come back too early on an injury and it causes it to become a longer issue (months or a whole year). If you come back after the week off and its still lingering after a few slow easy days, then it might be time to see a doctor about it to make sure it isn't something bigger.

I agree with @DopeyBadger - DON'T speed the recovery. It sucks to DNS due to injury (I can tell you from current experience) but it might be the right thing to do in the long run (pun intended!).

Having said that, a week or two of complete rest may be all you need, but I agree that if it hurts beyond that it's time to see a doc.

Thanks for the advice. It's barely been a day and it's already driving me nuts. I know what I *should* do, but I'm so dang stubborn. I'm trying to look big picture. I'd rather miss a half in my home town in May than WDW in January, but sitting still makes me a little crazy.

Seriously, I get it. I'm just coming back from 2.5 months off (and it was pretty upsetting to take that much time off) and had to DNS the Princess 5K and defer GSC. Hoping the deferral link pops up for PDC too. It sucks!
