Marathon Weekend 2017!

I threw in my London jacket to wear over my clothes if it does start raining on us. It doesn't have a hood but it should do the job for the most part. Bought a couple of throwaway sweatshirts for the half/full morning. Need to get a poncho for park time after the half because that jacket is going to need to dry out. And my shoes, and pretty much anything else I wear.

Really I'm ready for another Splash and Dash if it comes to it.

Somehow, I have to make it through another 3 hours of work... and then I have 2 MORE work days before I can escape to WDW.

How am I going to make it??? How can I think about work, when all my brain can think about is minimizing the time from the airport to the Expo?
:scared:

Woke up with a bad cold this morning. Got a lot of packing to do so I just gotta work through it! Hopefully it's gone by the time we get there. Safe travels, everyone!

This is my first race, and I'm not used to running in the rain as well. I'm interested in how other runners prepare for the running in the rain.

There are a few things you can do.

- put plastic bags over your shoes while in the corral to try to keep them from being completely waterlogged (the little blue hospital booties work great for this)
- use lots of Bodyglide on your feet and toes to prevent blisters
- get a cheap poncho to wear while waiting in the corral
- wear a hat or visor to keep the rain out of your face
- wear a breathable jacket while running (be careful with this. Too many "breathable" ones make you feel like you're running in a sauna).

The most important thing (after the Bodyglide) is to embrace it. Pretend you're a kid again heading out the door to splash around in puddles. Fighting the weather never works out well, so roll with it and try to have fun.

I leave on Thursday morning too, and am probably 98% packed but keep doubting myself and adding different running clothes for the rain and for colder weather. You would think I was running Dopey instead of just the half with all the running clothes I have packed! I am pretty sure I will be taking stuff out and putting different stuff in that suitcase all the way up until 4 am on Thursday when I leave for the airport!

All this! But I refuse to believe it will rain. :D

We leave Thursday. I am 0% packed, still sewing one of my costumes and we need to get the house ready for my parents who are staying with the kiddos while we're in Florida....

At work and trying really hard to focus but can't. :guilty: Leaving Thursday morning for my first rD event and first half marathon. So nervous and excited at the same time. With the ever changing weather forecast, I keep adding things to bring. What started out as a carry on for the weekend is now a checked bag. :confused3

Wishing everyone a great race! :cheer2:
I am with you...leaving Thursday also for my first half and have the butterflies now and then. Wishing you pixie dust!

Definitely in that boat with you. I also had carry-on only dreams, then I added a costume and the weather :) Good Luck with your first half-marathon!

I am packed for any weather condition for 10 days, lol! Long sleeve, short sleeve, skirts, tights, tanks, sandals, shoes, etc. Bought a new lightweight rain jacket for the parks and will just get wet if it rains during the marathon. And probably be cold because I'd rather be cold than too hot so have no plan to wear tights or long sleeves. I have my arm sleeves I can take off and put in my pocket and a fleece throwaway blanket for waiting in the corral. I have been doing @DopeyBadger's heat acclimation training and now it looks like it will be the same temperature as I run in at home. Cold! :)

It's what I'm counting on and why I made sure to include my rain ponchos in my packing list.
Just grabbed a couple of ponchos at Rite Aid this morning. Sigh...
I am doing my part for prevention by overpacking for both rain and cold! Leaving in the morning and it can't get here fast enough! :sunny:
Same here - had to go through and re-work my outfits for rainier, colder weather. But it'll still be fun! :)

I bet, that there will be no rain on any raceday. Weather forcast for yesterday said there will be rain and thunderstorms. Nothing happened, we had a warm and sunny day here in Orlando!

Here's hoping! For our vacation in September it was forecast to rain every day. And it didn't rain at all. :)

I'm bringing an older pair of shoes to sacrifice to the rain gods instead of one of my new pairs. I hope all the Goofy and Dopey runners are bringing at least two pairs too. Running the full on Sunday with shoes wet from Saturday will be no fun at all.

I've got 2 pairs + newspaper in case I need to stuff my shoes to get them to dry quicker. One pair would not cut it!
