Marathon Weekend 2017!

:scared: Did it have chairs? :rotfl:

I don't know, because each morning I saw the lines and was just like "NOPE."

I got lucky and got in line right as the Daisy came out so I didn't wait long. I think pluto was about 10 minutes, not too bad. Dopey definitely was much longer.

RIGHT to all of these.

My plan was to wait for Dopey for a long while after the 10k this year and ... #WompWomp, it was raining and he wasn't out.

That Dope and I are DEFINITELY meeting this year, no matter HOW long it takes (probably after the half so I can have a "replenishing beverage" while I wait in line to meet him).

I like getting pictures before the race. There isn't much else to do if you get there early. This year we got in line to take our picture with the Dopey backdrop and after waiting about ten minutes as others took their pictures with the backdrop we were second in line they brought Dopey out to start taking pictures. We didn't know Dopey would be coming out so it was pretty serendipitous.

I purchased race retreat for the marathon. Because I decided against it early on, I didn't pay any attention to the new benefit until Keels mentioned the early expo access. @Keels, many many thanks to you - I can't tell you how much of a difference this will make for my little boy!! He's really excited about getting to the expo earlier with fewer crowds!

Other factors I used to justify the cost:

1. Temperature controlled environment before the marathon. I might really appreciate that after three very cold mornings.

2. Even if I don't want to eat right after running, I should probably eat something. Wish they served chocolate milk, hard boiled eggs, bacon and strawberries, but it's hard to find that perfect post-race breakfast!

3. I'm a huge fan of the beanbag area with the Disney cartoons before the race.

Anyone else doing race retreat for the marathon?

Tell me more about this beer truck...

You'll find it in the back left corner of the parking lot once you leave the bag check tents. The character photos will be straight across the lot from the tents, and the beer truck is to the left of the characters. They accept Magic bands, so if you're not wearing yours to buy beverages or use a FP along the way, be sure to pack yours in your check bag so you can get your rehydration started right after you finish.

So I've been off with an injury for several months and have done very little training this year. I'm back for a couple weeks now though and am hoping to still finish the dopey challenge because that was way too expensive to just skip. What are my odds, do you guys think? It isn't my first marathon, and I'm planning on taking it very slow.

Slow and steady will do it for you! I'm not running Dopey, just the 1/2 and I had not run until May due to a broken left arm and then rotator cuff and bicep tear surgery on my right arm in July. I got the okay to run on 10/28 and did my first 4 miler today. I felt like I would never run again after 5 months off. Just train smart and don't push it. Consider the 5K and 10K warm-ups. Take it easy on the 1/2 and you'll have your Dopey medal on 1/8/17.

It's possible. You're looking at 8.5 weeks of time between now and the 5K. The experience of already doing a previous marathon will be helpful because you know what you're getting yourself into. I believe you can make enough gains between now and then if you train slow and smart to complete Dopey. I would recommend doing lots and lots of slow running to improve your endurance. No need for speed workouts, or lactate threshold workouts, or tempo workouts. Just lots of slow endurance building runs. You can do it!

I'd say it depends on where you were when you got injured. Were you running halfs and in good fitness in general? Are you willing to manage your pacing and expectations during Dopey? If so, I think you should be able to do it.

I was in a bit of a similar situation last year. I suffered a pretty bad injury in September running a half and could not run again until after Thanksgiving after a lot of PT. Even then, I was limited to run/walk intervals to continue the rehab from there. I was looking forward to my first marathon at Disney as part of Goofy and was also signed up for the 10k (so not quite Dopey, 5k short). My longest training run leading into the weekend was 12 miles. By managing my intervals carefully, I was able to complete all 3 races and have a great time doing it!

Good luck!

Hey, shouldn't you be in bed for the big race tomorrow? 8-)
