Marathon Weekend 2016

Those running some more without spare shoes...remember to NOT use a dryer. But do try to dry them out as much as possible for tomorrow.

Just parked for Expo. Anyone need me to check anything?

Can you see if they still have the 2016 Marathon magnet, and the women's marathon "I did it" shirts? :)

Just wanted to ditto this. The best way to dry wet shoes is to stuff with wadded up newspaper and change the wads out with fresh paper ever hour until dry. Works like a charm and you should have dry shoes for the AM.
Awesome job today for all you 10Kers sticking it out in the rain!

I'm back from my nap!

So - was the 10k awesome? Nope. It was wet, it was cold and it was really slippery. But I sucked it up and ended up ditching my poncho around .5 into the race and just decided to run my race. I couldn't do anything about the weather - and, really, what would a true challenge be without a little adversity?

Was the race easy? Oh, heck no. I probably should've walked more than I did, but I wanted to keep going, to keep moving faster and to make sure my overall pace never got close to 16:00/mm.

I was also REALLY paranoid about falling, so I was trying to watch my footing. I kinda choked up when I saw what I assumed to be the last sweeper bus before we went under Test Track and into EPCOT. Not that it really mattered, as I never even caught a glimpse of the balloon ladies on the overpass portion of the out-and-back to start the race.

We hit the World Showcase and I kinda had this epiphany. I knew I could do it - not just the 10k, but all of it. If I were to fall, I'd just get up and keep going. I wasn't going to get swept - not today, and not any day. I stopped for a couple of selfies around the World Showcase and then we were on our way to Boardwalk. I hit that boardwalk and it was like something just took over - and I was off like a canon. I felt like I was PacMan (I know - I said yesterday I felt like I was Secretariat, so just bear with me). Crossed back into EPCOT, took a short walk break under the breezeway by MouseGears and then sped it back up including what felt like a dead sprint on the straightaway across the finish line.

That last mile? According to my watch, it was my fastest ever at 9:03. WHAT THE. I knew I was kicking hard for most of it, but I had no idea it was that fast (I only have pace alerts set up for above 14:00/mm paced miles, not for really anything below that.

And currently, as I sit here, I feel just awesome. 9.3 down, 39.3 to go!

For you experienced Run Disney peeps: RE: hotel: We are a Run Disney/DVC family, but usually stay at Old Key West. Currently, we are booked at Bay Lake Tower for PHM, so the monorail beam will be our primary mode of transportation on race weekend. What are some pros and cons of staying at a resort with the monorail verses using the bus transportation?

Depends on what races you're running. It wasn't running yesterday or today for runners, so you'd still be bussing it anyway. And if you have kiddos participating in the kids races, you'll have to take a bus to ESPN for those as well as for the Expo.

Any word on whether park hours have been extended this weekend at all? I saw a reference to extended hours on Twitter, but I the WDW website still has the same hours.

We are running the whole weekend--5K and Glass Slipper Challenge. During Star Wars Half, we will throw in the kids 5K!

The monorail may not be running early in the morning for the half. I would confirm with runDisney if it will be an option.

was told that after the 10k run I did not need to get my picture done ... The man said that only on Saturday and Sunday were needed but yesterday we were told to make sure you take your pictures EVERY DAY for validation at the end ... I took my picture anyways , just wondering if they confused goofy and dopey , also did anyone else hear this ?

If it is the official WDW today twitter I would believe it as true. They may not have time to update the website so it is easy to tweet out MK or whatever is extended.

The Dopey tent was a completely empty pass-through again today, like yesterday. They were hollering that Dopey check-in begins tomorrow and we did not have to do anything today.

As of 12 they hadnt extended park hrs for any day this week.. My office is one of the first thatd hear since we staff all the parks :)(ive been on lunch since 12)

Doesnt seem they sweeped the 10k too hard since there were crazy amount of peeps with 2:20-2:30 net finishes...

Can't recommend http://stuffitts.com/ enough for races like that... I use them daily for sweat purposes and always have, but they obviously also work like a champ after a rainy, snowy, or muddy run... I've got sets of them in my running shoes, trail running shoes, road cycling shoes, tri bike shoes, mountain bike shoes, stationary bike shoes...

Great job again everyone! Sorry it was a wet one today.

I cant believe I'm still sitting here at home! The car is just about packed and as soon as DS gets home from school we jump in the car and hit the road.
I'm not sure how much more access I will have so best of luck to all the runners with races still left to run! That finish line is waiting for us!
