I have taken pictures of a lot of things but I've never taken a picture of that sign
Quick question for the vets. My dad is having a last minute laparoscopic procedure this week but still insistent on coming to see me run on Saturday. I've convinced him at least that he needs to be in a wheelchair so he can at least not exert himself and risk exacerbating his injury. How helpful is the handicap services for Disney?
I'm not sure what you mean? In general Disney is quite wheelchair friendly.
Resorts have them to borrow, but they are not guaranteed. I doubt rentals would be open if he didn't bring his own.
In the past, we have told parking attendants we needed to park closer (for a park day--not the race) but didn't have a handicap decal. They permitted us to do just that. I don't know that you can count on this though. My husband insisted on asking since the worst they can say is no.
Transportation in general will be quite congested, so he will want to allow extra time.
What's funny is neither my Mom not I realized it was a near 9 hr flight to Orlando from London.

I think I might be in a similar boat to you. I have been so excited for this trip but in the last few days have almost been borderline dreading it. There's a little anxiety around leaving work, pre-race nerves and just the normal "hope I don't get sick on the way down" thoughts.
I know once I'm on the plane the excitement will come again and when I see some other runners the Disney bolt of happiness will strike but yeah... not totally in the zone right now.
Hopefully I can offer some positivity in sharing this- we've waited for the weekend to come for so long, trained, likely been on the boards for months chasing race weekend info, and there are so many people who would love to be there and cannot be! We're the lucky ones and it will be AWESOME!
As if I needed anymore to worry about as I am dropping off the kids to school I say hi to one of my friends to check in and see how Christmas break was for their family. They all had the stomach bug all week. So this means it is starting to go around now. AWESOME!
I don't know if I am not excited because I feel like something will keep me from going or if it is because it will be my last Disney trip for a while (getting divorced and money will be tight for a while). The job situation is bad lately. I'm not trying to be a downer and drag everyone down with me. Just venting. On top of that, not being as ready for the race as I want to be is bothering me too.
But I do know, if I make it down there, I will feel excited and much better at that point.
I'm sorry, I have not stayed off property during a race weekend before so I cannot give you specifics. My sister's friend stayed at Orange Lake for Princess Half. They left their resort at 3:30-3:45 am and sat in the car for a good 30- 45 mins because they were there early. Said there was no traffic and the drive was easy. Hope that helps a little. Can someone please tell me how long it took them to drive on/off property to the start and how bad it was to get out via car at the finish? No one responded to me before and I'm struggling to figure out how to get myself and my running partner (who is off site) in and out of the full together.
I hope your household stays healthy this week and I'm sorry about all you are going through. I hope the race excitement starts to pick up for you and wipes your worries away, even if its just for the weekend! As if I needed anymore to worry about as I am dropping off the kids to school I say hi to one of my friends to check in and see how Christmas break was for their family. The wheelchairs at the resort are hard to get and only for use at the resort. A better bet is to rent a wheelchair online. There are plenty of places that will pickup and deliver to Disney resorts, and then you can take it from resort to park or wherever you go. My 86 year old mom is coming to the finish line and that's what we'll be doing.
(BTW, remember this: duing DATW, it is not a good idea to see how fast you can push the wheelchair. This is the voice of experience speaking.)

It's easy Disney parking lots are made for a lot of people leaving at once, I've driven to every race and never have had trouble leavingCan someone please tell me how long it took them to drive on/off property to the start and how bad it was to get out via car at the finish?
