Marathon Weekend 2016

Good morning folks. It's finally here, it's race week!

Update on Weather:
Looking a little warm and wet. It's still early and I'm praying for a change. I'll post a more detailed forecast on Monday.

QOTD:
What are you most afraid of happening during your race?

Heat... :sunny:

They are not going to start before the marathon weekend, so why not leave them up til this weekend is over now that this extension has been done.
Actually they are closing things starting tomorrow. Phineas and fern meet and greet, cars meet and greet and jofferys coffee shop close for demo. That area will become staging. Pizza planet closes on the 11th for 11 months and a retheme.

Just saw that. Wednesday was all ready our DHS day with doing the Dine with an Imagineer. So excited to see the lights one last time!

In the past at the front door of the main lobby this has been posted to inform runners of the bus info:
I have taken pictures of a lot of things but I've never taken a picture of that sign

QOTD:
Sleeping in! I will have 3 alarms set and will ask for a wake up call. Still I keep invisioning waking up and seeing 6:30 on the clock! I have been known to sleep through alarms... So the alarms will be loud and across the room. My neighbors are going to love me!
Some good advice here on alarm clock protocol...

Jerry: He overslept and missed the whole race. Isn't that amazing?

George: I'll tell you what happened. I bet he got the AM/PM mixed-up.

Jerry: My money's on the snooze. I bet he hit the snooze for an extra 5 and it never came back on. Imagine your whole life riding on an alarm clock.

Kramer: Alarm clocks? I never use 'em. Don't trust 'em.

Jerry: What do you do?

Kramer: I have a uh...mental alarm. I set my head for... quarter to seven and...
(makes sound with the lips - "pop!") ...I get up!

Jerry: Always works?

Kramer: It never fails. See, it's based on your body clock. See, your body has an internal mechanism. It knows what time it is.

Another good lesson to learn from that Seinfeld show is to never mistake someone's cup of coffee for water and pour it over your face.As far as the alarms, that's my normal daily protocol,I have 1 radio alarm clock,1 g shock watch with 4 separate alarm times,1 phone with 4 alarm times and 1 running watch with 5 alarms, yeah I'm insane but I always get up.For the marathon on Sunday I'll replace the alarm clock with a wake up call,so a total of 14 alarms going off!!

One of the greatest shows ever! Thanks for the laugh. Sadly my mental alarm is on permanent snooze...

Alright, here is the final version of the Marathon Weekend Dis'ers List. Hope to meet many of you in the pre-corrals, in the same corral, or at the finish line. Also, posted this before but these are good pre-meeting places for the half and full, and a good location to watch the finish after you're done. This will likely be it for me, since I'm leaving bright and early tomorrow morning. I wish you all the best of luck and look forward to hearing all about how everyone's trips went. :earsboy:

Thanks for the updated version of the list, @DopeyBadger!

I was just looking over the list and realized that I never updated my costumes after my initial freakout of not having much of an idea, so if anyone is looking for me...
For the 5K, I'll be Nemo-inspired and Beth is Cinderella-inspired (although in a slightly darker blue than most Cinderellas).
For the 10K, I'm Dumbo-inspired (as it says on the list) and Beth is Snow White-inspired.

Here's my Dumbo outfit (I will be wearing shoes on race day ... most likely purple ones):
Dumbo.jpg
So if you see someone wearing this outfit at the 10K, please come say hi! I'm just not a morning person, so please don't be insulted if I don't seem excited to see you. I can't really get excited at that hour of the morning.

The Nemo outfit is an orange shirt and black and white dress ... I know I have a picture of it somewhere, I just can't find it. No pictures of Beth's costumes, but her Snow White skirt is the same yellow as the above Dumbo skirt (as in ... I used some of my leftover fabric for her skirt).

We'll also be in the parks most days, so if you see us there, please say hi! We're at Magic Kingdom on 1/6, Hollywood Studios after the 5K, Animal Kingdom after the 10K, nothing on Saturday (although we'll likely be in the monorail resort area on Saturday night, and may be hanging around Pop Century and/or AoA in the afternoon), Epcot on Sunday afternoon, and then back at Magic Kingdom on Monday. We'll be at Disney Springs late this Tuesday night (1/5), and for at least part of our departure morning (1/12) ... if you're looking for us there, close to Ghirardelli is always a good bet.
Oh, and we're planning to mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens on Sunday morning, and then stop to watch the marathon a bit on our way to Epcot. We'll definitely be on the lookout for DISers, so if you hear random people cheering for you, it might be us!

Thanks @DopeyBadger

I hope to meet some of you at the Half or 5K. For the 5K I will be wearing a Child Detection Agency shirt (monsters inc.) my name will be on the back. For the half I will be Disney bounding as Mickey with black long sleeve shirt and red shorts. Say hi if you see me!

Having my hamstring let go again during the race. It's been a rather painful 3 months of PT and rehab since my last race and I really don't want to have to restart the process.

I have gotten back to run/walk intervals of 1:00/2:00 (good for a 12:00-12:30 pace) to a long training run of 12 miles this weekend. I feel pretty good about the 10k and 1/2, based on that.

Unfortunately, I was planning on trying my first marathon this weekend as well and have been unable to train for it. So now I have to decide whether to try the marathon on half training with an iffy hamstring or just eat the entry fee. I think I know what I SHOULD do, but does anyone have any advice for this type of situation?

I would say to try the race and just take it easy. Is it ideal, no. Ideally you would be 100% healthy and could run your race. But it isn't ideal to give up the money either. So go have fun and do your best. That's just my opinion.

I hope everyone that is leaving or already there had a great race. I will be one of the last one's hanging around. I don't get to leave until Friday morning.:mad::mad:

QOTD: My biggest fear is getting sick. I can deal with a cold or something. I just don't want any stomach bugs or fevers that would prevent me from even getting to the starting line. I was worried about weather here preventing me from even making it to FL. But it is looking nice and clear so that doesn't seem to be an issue. Now, if a huge storm wants to delay my return and force me down there a couple extra days, that I am OK with.

I have 3 more work days left. One of these days I will organize myself and begin packing. I don't know why I am not more excited for this trip. I don't get it.

So I've had a few extra people add their information and decided now would be a good time to post another edition of the Marathon Weekend Dis'ers list. I've also seen a few more screen names on here that I haven't seen lately so if you'd like to be added give me the following info. I will post the last version on Sunday evening.

OMG, OMG, less than a week away.

Race: Full
Name: Frank
Dis Screen Name: Frankster
Costume: n/a --bright orange t-shirt weather permitting
Corral: K (am I the only one here in that corral?)
Early Bird or Late Arriver?: Probably late
Front Middle or Back of corral? Will try for front.
Expected Pace: 13:00 not accounting for photo ops.

OMG, OMG...

What time will you start the DATW on Monday and which country first.

ATTQOTD:
Yes this is an important question. Are you a Canada or Mexico person?

Canada. Always better to finish with tequila than start with it. We usually meet at 1145 in hopes the beer cart will open before noon. It rarely does but we're eternally hopeful.

The national weather service for:

Sunday, January 10 at 6am
Temperature: 62 °F Dewpoint: 61 °F Wind Chill: N/A Surface Wind: SE 5mph
Sky Cover (%): 84% Precipitation Potential (%): 30% Relative Humidity (%): 97%
Rain: Chance (30%-50%) Thunder: <10% Snow: <10% Freezing Rain: <10% Sleet: <10%

Muggy...

I don't know why I am not more excited for this trip. I don't get it.

I think I might be in a similar boat to you. I have been so excited for this trip but in the last few days have almost been borderline dreading it. There's a little anxiety around leaving work, pre-race nerves and just the normal "hope I don't get sick on the way down" thoughts.

I know once I'm on the plane the excitement will come again and when I see some other runners the Disney bolt of happiness will strike but yeah... not totally in the zone right now.

Hopefully I can offer some positivity in sharing this- we've waited for the weekend to come for so long, trained, likely been on the boards for months chasing race weekend info, and there are so many people who would love to be there and cannot be! We're the lucky ones and it will be AWESOME!

Bumpity bump. Can anyone help with this?

I didn't think that there were waivers associated with chear squad but I could be wrong, worst case scenario the have printing stations at the expo for people that either forgot or didn't print waivers so you could always print it there

What are you most afraid of happening during your race?

#1 Sleeping in, I am a night owl and never get enough sleep and always have trouble waking up in the morning but generally this is not an issue on race mornings as I'm excited and this one ill be excited X10 so I should be fine but will have multiple alarms in case
#2 Injury, I have been lucky in that ive never experienced an injury since I started running hoping that my luck continues for at least the next week

Biggest fear - Really nothing, because I know that if something happens I just need to relax and deal with it.

Best advice ever!

So I've been wondering. Looking at the forecast it's going to be warm and likely humid. Are we permitted to bring camelbak water packs with us? Or are they forbidden items for the race?[/QUOTE

absolutely and I would recommend that everyone bring their own water source (assuming you've trained with it) because while Disney is pretty good with the water stops its always a good idea to have your own just in case

This is amazing@DopeyBadger Thank you for taking the time to put this together! Safe travels.

Still planning on attempting my Eeyore costume for the 5k as I have not seen any updates on costumes from rD. Unfortunately I've had to scrap my Wreck-It Ralph costume as I never found anything I was comfortable running in, so it'll be boring running clothes for the three remaining races.

I haven't checked a bag for the last three years; does anyone know if there is a gear check for the 5k? I want to be prepared in case the new regulations require me to remove my costume and that would be the easiest contingency plan.

Can someone please tell me how long it took them to drive on/off property to the start and how bad it was to get out via car at the finish? No one responded to me before and I'm struggling to figure out how to get myself and my running partner (who is off site) in and out of the full together.

We drove from BW for all four races last year. It took us about 15-20 minutes to get there before the start. We had no trouble, traffic, or wait getting out of the lot after the finish.
