Marathon Weekend 2016

So I've been wondering. Looking at the forecast it's going to be warm and likely humid. Are we permitted to bring camelbak water packs with us? Or are they forbidden items for the race?

Permitted. I've been using them with Disney since Avengers innagural.

Good morning folks. It's finally here, it's race week!

Update on Weather:
Looking a little warm and wet. It's still early and I'm praying for a change. I'll post a more detailed forecast on Monday.

QOTD:
What are you most afraid of happening during your race?

ATTQOTD: The things that worry me the most are things I don't have control over. One of those is the weather. We all have a ideal forecast for race day and the current one isn't mine. The other one is being at another large race. The odds of something happening are unlikely, but I guess the thought of being in a similar situation again will always be a thought in my mind.

ATTQOTD:
I'm most worried about a global economic crisis. It would have to be pretty targeted to start during the race though. In terms of running stuff I'm most worried about someone in our group struggling or having a major issue either GI or Cramping.

I have trained my body to hit the bathroom before the start of any race and 9/10 times it works beautifully. But that one time....which is why I plan to do a quick easy mile before a leave my villa to help the process along. :)
Yeah it's really strange. My body is conditioned so that before most long runs I have to go to the bathroom multiple times. Once out running I don't usually have issues though.

What time will you start the DATW on Monday and which country first.
Yes this is an important question. Are you a Canada or Mexico person?

I'm behind on QOTD, so...

From 2 days ago: My out of the ordinary thing happened yesterday. I slipped on ice and took a nasty fall, badly bruising my butt & back. I'm hoping it doesn't affect my running too much and hopefully I'll be fine by next Sunday. Horrible timing!

From yesterday: half marathon

Today's QOTD: I'm most worried about hitting the wall at mile 20. I don't think I've quite mastered fueling on my 20 milers and seem to start breaking down around mile 17. I think maybe I need to eat something more substantial than just gels or bloks but never had a chance to try this and not sure if I should during the race.

I had a similar answer; appropriate for Michigan winter running! The roads and sidewalks have been super icy this past week! Sorry you had a fall so close to the race.

Probably because the weather today is absolute garbage. Cold, rainy, gross. I didn't come to Florida for this!

FYI Osborne Light have been extended until January 6th at DHS.

I just came here to post this. I'm very excited. I'll be there on Tuesday! Park hours extended until 10 p.m. 5th and 6th also.

QOTH:

Considering I just had my first vacation nightmare last night, missed our 530 a.m. flight, I will say my biggest fear is missing the race. What time do I have to be on the bus again? lol.

Also, equipment malfunctions. If my headphones, phone or water belt or pretty much anything doesn't work right or is bothering me, it's a deal breaker. I get completely off my game.

It might sound dumb, but crowding. All of my previous races have been smaller town races, this will be my first big race in terms of population, rather than distance. At my last race in september there was crowding at the start, and I felt like it slowed me down a bit. Still hit a PR of 3:11 in the half but I'm sure you know the feeling that I could have done better.

Crowding used to bother me until I did the BMO marathon here in Vancouver and while the crowding is a bit intense during corrals, the support from crowds throughout much of the course is so much better! I really can't wait for the crowd support at WDW! Not even running the 10k but thinking about going out to cheer in the morning.

QOTD:
What are you most afraid of happening during your race?

Having my hamstring let go again during the race. It's been a rather painful 3 months of PT and rehab since my last race and I really don't want to have to restart the process.

I have gotten back to run/walk intervals of 1:00/2:00 (good for a 12:00-12:30 pace) to a long training run of 12 miles this weekend. I feel pretty good about the 10k and 1/2, based on that.

Unfortunately, I was planning on trying my first marathon this weekend as well and have been unable to train for it. So now I have to decide whether to try the marathon on half training with an iffy hamstring or just eat the entry fee. I think I know what I SHOULD do, but does anyone have any advice for this type of situation?

ATTQOTD:

I'm worried about needing the bathroom, a muscle giving up or hitting the wall in a big way come mile 19/20 on marathon day. I know there's absolutely no shame in walking but I really want to cross that finish line running!

This may have been discussed earlier so I apologize if this is a repeat. I've always driven our rental car over to the races, but I think I'll being grabbing a bus this year so hubby will have the car & can bring me a snack during the marathon :)

I like to get to the corrals early so o can be towards the front of my corral - what time would you all suggest I get out to the bus stop in the AM? We're staying at one of the All Star resorts (honesty don't remember which one off the top of my head). Do I need to head out well before the first bus is scheduled to leave to make sure I don't get stuck in a huge bus line?

we have stayed at an all start before for the tower of terror weekend , we where there for the first bus , about 30 minutes before schedule pick up , the lone up was huge by the time we loaded and left , some people were saying that we kind of get the shaft when it comes to number of buses so i would plan to be at the bus line up early , I knkow thats what my wife and I will be doing for the whole weekend during dopey since we are staying at the all start sports

I think you should listen to your body on morning of. If you're exhausted and something feels like it might give way, don't risk it. If you've got adrenalin racing through you, do it!

Though it's not advisable, I did do a marathon without as much training that was needed and was fine until the last 10 miles, which became a walk/jog finish. Even though that part was a little disappointing, I'm so glad I finished and got the darn medal!

Good luck :)

WOTD:
My biggest fear is finishing a race where it took everything out of me both physically and mentally, to the point where I fall out of love with running. This happened to a friend of mine and I never want to get to that point. As a precaution, I have stopped racing myself. I don't really try to PR. I just complete the distance in front of me and remember I do this because it makes me a better me!

Bus question- I'm staying at POFQ. Do they let you know in advance when the race buses will depart?

There will be posted times but I believe all busing for the half and full marathons start at 3 a.m. I am not sure about the 5k and 10k since I have never run those

Just saw that. Wednesday was all ready our DHS day with doing the Dine with an Imagineer. So excited to see the lights one last time!

In the past at the front door of the main lobby this has been posted to inform runners of the bus info:
