Marathon Weekend 2016

It is very strange, and coupled with the apparent Dooney snafu makes me wonder what's happening at rD HQ.

On the other hand, if this is an attempt to curb eBay scalpers, I am 100% supportive. Those people really irritate me. Especially after my PHM magnet was stolen off my car (why would anyone do that? And they left other rD race magnets).

Anything to do to curb the EBay crowd I am all for it. I think what is going to be available at the expo should be available to purchase at the time of race registration. This way those that cannot get there on the day the expo opens can still buy what they want to.

All of my magnets are on my fridge.

I am having a Gu tasting area at our New Years get together tonight. I think that means the taper madness has hit.

I went looking for the Pizza Margherita at my local running/nutrition stores and nobody had any. I am hoping they have some up at the expo to try when I get back home since I am also running the GSC too

Just glanced at the forecast for marathon day and accuweather and weather channel have near identical forecast. The good news the models are starting to agree, the bad news... The low is 60 or 62 :(
im going to be freezing i better get something warm to wear

Hi, I'm running the marathon (my first) and just found this thread. I thought I'd say hi and thanks for all the great information. I especially wanted to say hi to michigandergirl. I live in West Michigan and ran the River Bank Run for the first time last year. I am badge 50xx and will be in corral I. I've run a few half marathons in addition to the 25K, but my training has not gone well the past couple months so at this point I'm just hoping to finish and not get swept!

How cool, another Michigander on the thread! I am hoping to run the River Bank Run this spring I have heard it is a good race with some challenging hills. Looking forward to it. Have a good race!

I'll submit a proxy vote for the Hammer if it's Apple Cinnamon...tastes like apple sauce and similar in texture too!
A lot of people really liked that flavor

I still have a couple packets I'll bring them down. I'll be glad to pass them off to you if we can find a time to meet.

For those that are wondering the pizza flavor is like, just imagine if someone looked at toothpaste and thought man I should make this taste vaguely like bad pizza.

the tasting went suprisingly well. There was much laughter with it. It was interesting to see how different everyone's palates were. The biggest let down was th hammer gel chocolate peanut butter. The pleasant surprise was cliff shots strawberry, especially since most didn't like the gu strawberry banana. We are all also a bit dissapointed that the Roctane pineapple dated more like a dum dum than a dole whip.

One absentee ballot for Clif chocolate. Tastes like fudge and is a bit thicker in consistency than some other flavors and brands. :thumbsup2 Their Cran-Razz is good too.

Comrades is a bucket list race, and if anyone reading this hasn't heard of it do yourselves a favour and look it up. Bart Yasso hand-picked Comrades to be his final race, which speaks volumes. And you did it back-to-back years? Awesome.

Thanks! 2014 was supposed to be one and done, but our South African friends convinced us to go back to back so we could get the extra medal and experience the race in both directions.

Which Ironman are you doing? Dubai? Bahrain? Somewhere in Europe? You can literally find a race in every corner of the world...

I'm doing IM Florida in November. Bahrain, Abu Dhabi ITU, and Dubai are only 70.3 right now. There aren't any full distance races in the Gulf yet. I thought about Europe or Australia, but the timing (11 months to train) and location (5-6 hour drive from our house near Cocoa) made Florida an easy choice. Plus it's easier for my friends to come and race with me.

That is such a good idea. That way they could make enough for everyone. They would make so much more money.

Ya, I knew the Middle East races were 70.3's, but didn't want to diminish their difficulty...saying "only a half Ironman" is like saying "only" doing the marathon next weekend :)
Florida should be a good race, one of the premier American races for sure. My grandparents spend their winters in PCB and they love the atmosphere there on race weekend. Good luck with your training! We might need to start an Ironman thread on here too...

My PHM magnet was stolen too... Really people?! .... And other magnets left alone...

Enjoying everyone's posts! Getting so excited for you all, and looking forward to updates as the weekend progresses.
Cheering from MA!

I ran my last outside run (probably have a couple treadmill sessions left) with my hubby. It was cold but the streets were clear and hardly anyone driving out there.

Can't believe I'm at the "last runs" before leaving already!!

Happy New Year! 5 more sleeps til I'm leaving for Disney!

For 2015 it would have to be the Coast to Coast even if the W&D ended with an *

For 2016, I'm really hoping I can just finish this marathon and get the CC Challenge medal. I hate to sound like a whiner on here, but after I got clearance on my hip, I have had a couple tough runs, with some new issues popping up and I'm really worried and discouraged at this point.

Happy new year everyone!

QOTD: Over the last few months we have all had put in a lot of miles leading up to marathon weekend. During your runs, tell us about something out of the ordinary that you witnessed or had happen to you.

ATTQOTD:
As usual, I have to answers that I want to share. The first was probably happened during the hardest 16 miler I ever ran. About a half mile into the run, two young college girls just leaving the bike rental area on campus come down the rode that leads to the running / biking path around the lakes. Well, apparently one of them forgot how to stop a bike. She went right through an intersection, over the curb and sidewalk, then down a 5 foot drop into the lake. Her friend could not stop laughing and I tried not to. I stopped and helped her out the lake and got her the bike.
The other story happened on early in training when running around the LSU lakes as well. A friend and I were putting in some miles when we start to catch up with a girl ahead of us. No big deal, but what caught our attention is this girl was running in one of those running skirts, again not something unusual. What was odd was it was very short and this girl decided to cut out the liner inside and wasn't running with anything under it. So with each stride she took, everyone got a full moon. It was hard not to laugh as we passed.

Hope to read some good storied from yall! Have a great day everyone!

Passed? You didn't change your workout to incorporate a slower paced easy interval?

Something out of the ordinary... I really don't have anything for this one. The only thing I can think of is a dog jumped out of nowhere and scared the living day lights out of me. I don't have anything as good as your stories.

I like the chocolate. Their double expresso is my go to gu on early pre-race mornings. 100mg of caffeine is my friend at Disney. I think Clif is the thickest and powergel is the thinnest.

Happy new year everyone!

I wonder if she knew she was gonna be the butt of someone's joke?

ATTQOTD:
During the Chicago marathon my buddy had really bad calf cramping after about mile 20. He stopped to stretch his calf on the side of the road. As he stretched a nice gentleman gave him a little advice. Turns out that nice gentleman was Bart Yasso... I wish we had taken time to ask more questions.

One of my other buddies arrived at our hotel in Chicago first. He got in the elevator and there was one other guy in there. An obviously fast guy was the only other person in the room. My buddy whose never shy finally said "okay just how fast are you". The gentleman said "last year 2:04." My buddy asked him what his name was. He said "Dixon" . When our buddy told us we were like "umm maybe he missunderstood you that's close to world record pace" Turns out it was
Dickson Chumba the guy who won this year.

My training runs are pretty early in the morning so I don't see a lot of other people. I've bumped into a lot of deer, a few snakes and even one wolf/coyote.
