Marathon Weekend 2016

.
I'm going to be in "C" too our group will likely be running a little slower though. There will be 4 of us and we will be discussing a different state for every mile.

If you are in c and around a 4 hour pace feel free to join us with your favorite state trivia.

Hopefully if my IT band is better I'll come a join you for a bit. Running the marathon on my own (my first as well) and I do love a bit of trivia! You'll have to pardon my lack of state knowledge though, being English has its set backs!

So now I'm getting into a bit of a panic. I felt pretty good after 20.5 Saturday and I just did the elliptical for the past 2 days. I was going out for a 5 mile run today and about 3 miles in, my hip started to hurt. I finished the 5 but its definitely not right. Of all the issues I have been dealing with this is totally new. I'm hoping it's just something that if I lay off the running for a few days it will work itself out, but of course my mind is going in every other direction. I was so pumped yesterday and now today I feel almost crushed.
God, I know how that is... as I've said, this happened with my knee a week ago Saturday. It's just devastating to have everything you've looked forward to suddenly put in doubt. Take it easy, it sounds like you've got plenty of training, and more training now isn't going to make a big difference. My advice would be to rest it, then gently try it again, and if it is still a problem head to the doc immediately. I was worried about messing around with it for weeks, then finally heading to the doctor right before Goofy for something that should have been dealt with weeks ago. I'm glad I got a cortisone shot yesterday instead of Jan. 4.

You don't want to ignore it, but at this point a little bit of forced downtime might even be a good thing. As runners we can get caught up in the mileage trap and think that missing a run is the end of the world. Trust your training. If you have been putting in the work, which it certainly seems like you have, you will be fine come race day. I would take a few days, do some low-impact work like you have been doing on the elliptical, then test it out with a short, easy run. Just don't try to do too much too soon and let that hip heal up!

It will be one of the guys in our groups first marathon too. We'd love to have you run with us for a bit. Anyone else is welcome too.

Being English means you'll sound much more intelligent than us no matter what you say.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! It's just so frustrating that 20 miles went so well and then 3 in today, this!

It's so nice to have a place like this to come vent to. ;)

Looks like what was going to be the H party corral for the W&D is now in I for this weekend. I am doing my second full. First was at Disney this past January.

I also looked at last years results for my number and they finished the full in 7.14. My number is in the mid 5,000's.

I did 18 Friday and felt more confident than I have in a long while. Followed that up with five miles today where I almost immediately was trying to mentally distract myself from pain in my right leg. I am fine now and am just going to chalk it up to a bad run. Hope it is the same for you!!

I will not be at marathon weekend (Dark Side Challenge will be my first rD event), so I guess I should get my state trivia in now: which are the four states that start with the same letter as their capitols?

No Idea, but since I work for the post office I can tell you what their ZIP code is. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Oh man! Not that it's funny, but it's funny how similar our situations are. I'm glad its working out for you and thanks for the encouragement.

Yeah as others said take a few days off, don't try to run through it. Basically what was a little hip/lower back pain in November turned out to really be piriformis muscle syndrome pain in my glute which basically has put me in running limbo. Luckily todays 4 of run/walk was the least pain I have felt in awhile, but that's been with multiple days off and deep tissue massaging. Hope your pain goes away with a few days of rest & yes trust your training as days off now what matter too much come race time (at least that's what I keep telling myself)!

Wow, that's hard...I've come up with 3 so far, but am totally spacing on the 4th...trying not to cheat though!
I've got 2 so far...:scratchin

Cheated and looked at the other two. One I never would have gotten, the other I totally should have. :headache:

Most folks eventually get two or three, but the same one (probably the one you say you never would have gotten) usually trips up most people.

Hi - I'm so happy I found this board! The Disney Marathon will be my 1st marathon (I've done quite a few 1/2s and 10 milers). I have a training question. I'm following Higdon's senior plan, mainly because I don't seem to do well running 2 days in a row, and this plan only calls for 3 runs a week. I've followed his other plans in the past and have had great success with them. I'm a week ahead of schedule, cause I always build in an extra week in case of illness/injury. This past weekend I did 16 miles, and felt great! I'm not sure what to do about my extra week. In the past I've repeated the final week of training, and maybe run an extra mile on my long run. I don't know what to do now because his taper for this plan is only 2 weeks. It calls for the 20 mile run on 12/27. Then 4, 8 and 12 the next week and only 4 miles the final week. It looks like most people are doing their 20 miler on 12/20. Because I'm running less miles than many other plans, do you think a 2 week taper is ok? I run year round, and completed my last 1/2 in October.

Based on last year's corrals, it looks like I'll be in G. Thanks!!!

I have the answer, but I'll be saving it for the run. Thanks for the trivia.

Did some stuff looking at my bibs this year and last year. I went from number 555 last year to number 127 in the Goofy rankings. Last year I finished the Marathon in 1703 place but the person who was wearing the goofy 127 finished 4301 place.
