Marathon Weekend 2016

@LSUlakes

I've come a long way, and I know each of you have as well - in conquering fears and starting a running journey to reaching levels of performance that only the elite few on this planet can do.

I just want everyone here to know that I'm proud of you - of every single step you've taken up until this point, and I can't wait to run with you, cheer you along or even support you if you need it.

And I also want to thank each of you (even those of you not running Marathon weekend!) - because it's y'all that have turned my "silly" dream into an obsession. My bank account, however, has other views about this. :D

Let's do this.

You rock, girl! :thanks:

I've said this once before, and I'll say it again and again: this is one of the most supportive, best group of people I have ever bumped into.

I am so glad I have found you all. And, as @Keels just pointed up: I can't wait to run with you and fill you Full Marathon with my special Pixie Dust! :tink:

My first solo trip to the World starts in 28 days. And I couldn't be happier to know that, even though I'm going by myself, I will not be alone at all - runners are never alone. :)

Thanks everyone!

0 miles this weekend, sad, Saturday was planned off for my glute inury (piriformis muscle) but yesterday woke up dizzy & sick with an inner ear infection so no running Sunday:(
...BUT...seeing bib numbers yesterday was a highlight cause then I know all of our POTs went in correctly, can't wait for the official corral list to go up & event guide. Time can slow down though I need like 6-9 months to heal & build up again please. Jealous of everyone getting long runs in, be safe & don't over do it if you feel anything nagging as that's probably what led me to my injury.

Someone mentioned back hurting above, but I can't refind it to quote you, anyway, that's where my pain started but is actually caused by the piriformis muscle being injured and overused, so glute stretches might be good to help your back pain!

No, with all those people, you'll never be alone, although sometimes you might wish you were.

A question with probably an obvious answer. Does anybody remember the cliff bar pacers? What time increments they ran in? Finally what corral they started in? My training hasn't been what I wanted and hoping I can find a pacer to keep me on track.

I have not been around these parts just due to sheer business around the holidays. So much to read and catch up on! You all making me tired reading about your long runs but also inspired. I've just been maintaining until race week with I'm sure a "taper" right before of not running much with all the craziness of packing etc. It;s not very excited and just involves a lot of treadmill. But I'm a 5-ker so I know I got this. I really need to start practicing taking pictures during my run...maybe I will do a dorky run around the neighborhood next weekend and stop and take some pictures of trees etc. At least all the busy busy running around is good practice for walking around the parks a ton post race :)

Question: I know that us 5k people are un-timed so we won't show up on that results link. But will be know our bib #'s on our waiver when they send those or is it truly an unknown with bib #'s until we arrive at the expo. Sorry if this has been answered before and even if I was the one asking. I truly am having an empty brained moment.

Oh and I've just realized I can search the corral for my friend who is coming for the marathon and this way I can see and tell you all roughly when we will be at the TTC area for the full!!!!

This is what I found on the clif pacer website...

As for corrals, I believe they are in the appropriate corral based on seeding. However, it would be best to ask them at the expo because I do remember there being some quirks in the past (they were ahead one corral or behind one corral of where the seeding was).

Your bib# will be on your 5K waiver. However, they don't pre-release the 5K corral information until the expo (at least they haven't the last two years). But you can figure out what corral you will be in based on your estimated finishing time submitted when signing up for the 5K (way back in April). There were time frames of expected paces (i.e. 7:00-8:00, 8:00-9:00, making something up, but like this) and these correlate to the different 5K corrals. The further down the list you selected, the further back corral you will be in.

Ok, my friend will either be in N or O for the full based on what you all posted. So as it gets closer and we know for sure when we will be out cheering on the full we will let you all know! I think the TTC and the Poly are the places we decided to cheer from :)

My father-in-law and I submitted identical pace windows I believe which was the 9:00-10:00 option and still very accurate for both of us. So we were good guessers. So my guess is we will be towards the middle or top of the middle...haha?

Wow, it's been fun going through a bunch of the posts in this thread! I was posting on here last year leading up to Marathon Weekend and decided to check in to see who was running this year…nice to see some familiar names and inspiring to see stories from some new people as well! Looks like everyone is doing great with their training and build up, hopefully we all stay safe and healthy these last few weeks. For those nursing injuries just keep icing/rolling/resting/praying and do what you can to get to race day being the best runner you can be…the experience is worth it!

This will be my third year in a row doing the marathon, but it will be a new experience as I am running with my wife. After watching me run the last couple years, she has decided that there is no better race to run as her first marathon! We will be doing a run/walk/run which will also be a new experience for me…my wife has been doing great with her training though and is totally ready to run this thing. She just completed 23 miles (on the YMCA treadmill no less) last week and has one last long run coming up this week. Like so many others have started saying on here, IT’S GETTING REAL!

As for me, the only goals I have are 1) be there for my wife 2) ride a roller coaster during a marathon (cause how cool is that) and 3) cross the finish line with a margarita in hand :D

Good luck everyone!

Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I will carry a few gels with me on my long run on Thursday (or Clif Shot Blocks if I can swing by some place to find them). As luck would have it, I run on a mixed use trail with plentiful access to water fountains, rest rooms and emergency bail out spots so I don't even need to carry my own water. I have learned from my experience on the bike -- as long as I take in a few calories every hour or so, I'm fine, and my stomach's not too picky about what. I expect this will carry over to running but I will experiment nonetheless.

The bib #'s aren't making much sense to me. Someone I know that is running is in the 14,000's and the POT submitted isn't much different than me and I am in the early 2000's. Based on last year I am in F and he would be after the last corral.

Interesting -- I am wondering still how I was seeded at the back of the back. I am wondering if I somehow neglected to enter a Proof of Time or if I entered it incorrectly. I registered months ago so I don't remember. My POT would have been a 2014 Ten Miler that I completed in 1:46 -- not Corral A-worthy, but I think I would be ahead of the 16-minute milers, right?

20.5 miles in the books. Hardest run of my life. Amazingly, my legs were fine - great even! My always-challenging back was great, too. So what made 20.5 sooooo much tougher than the 19.5 I did last? HEAT. Summer just will not end here, it seems. Okay, it wasn't August-like heat, or I'd likely be dead. And it was downright pleasant at first: 67* and 90% humidity at sunrise. But add in a cloudless sky and my slow pace, plus an in-the-sun temp of 85*, and the last 2 hours were just dreadful. I'm sunburned, headachey and exhausted 2 days later... but it's DONE. I have another 20-22 miler planned in two weeks, but if there isn't a serious reduction in heat by then, I'll cut that to 16-18. At this point, I just want to get to the start line not feeling like garbage!

On a totally different question, do you carry gels or chomps or jelly beans with you on your long training runs?
I'm both slow and chronically hypoglycemic, so I MUST carry fuel on long runs. For 20 miles the other day, I carried and ate: 2 Honey Stinger waffles, 2 gels, and an Uncrustable. I fuel every 45 mins, without fail, to avoid a dangerous blood sugar crash. I use skirts/capris with pockets to carry it all - easy!

Not running related, but I am so happy that Alabama won the SEC Championship game last night, making it back to the playoffs. This will definitely make not running these races easier since the playoffs take place in January when we will be in WDW.

The Gatos did better than I was expecting.

I got my BQ today! 3:11:28 in the SA Marathon. The last 6 miles was an absolute grind as the course goes from being relatively flat to hillier with little fan support on that stretch of course. I think the Boston cut off last year was 2 minutes 28 seconds so I'm hoping my time will hold. For Disney I'd like to hit 3:10:00 which was my goal today, but ran out of gas at the end.

Congrats! That is definitely something to celebrate! I hope to say the same one day.

SOOO, had my fitness test half-marathon today. And well... set the following PRs all in one race!

1K - 4:09
1 mile - 6:52
5K - 22:03
10K - 44:36
Half - 1:38:47

Yep, I think I'm ready for Dopey #3!!!!

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/976186648

Congrats on the PR's! You are going to do great at Disney.

@LSUlakes and I are going to be enemies this bowl season! Which is crazy, because while Tech is my favorite team - LSU is probably my favorite non-Texas/Big 12 team.

Tech is probably going to kill us. I do not see this team getting excited about this game, and getting run out of the building would not surprise me. Louisiana politics will kill our football program, it just sad.

This thread is picking up a good bit these days. I was happy to read bib numbers are out, so of course I had to look mine up. Based on last years corrals, I will be in "B" for the marathon. I hope it works out that way.

I wouldn't worry about it just yet until the official waivers/corrals come out. This year's POT was different than year's past (before it was during the registration process), but this year you had to go to a separate website at trackshack (linked on rundisney) to enter the POT. Do you remember doing this like a month or so after registering when the link appeared? Did you happen to take a screenshot of your accepted POT submission as well (I know I didn't but others have stated they did)?
