Marathon Weekend 2016

Got to 15 miles today and my knee and calf were starting to feel a little tender, so I decided discretion was the better part of valor and called it a day. 34.3 over the last 4 days was a pretty good test for Dopey and I was running more hills here than I will be in WDW. That's a longer 4-day test run than I did for the first two, so I feel pretty good about being able to finish again and hopefully improving my overall time.

If the bib numbers correlate to last year, just 20,000's instead of 30,000's, it looks like I moved up to Corral H from Corral L.

Looks like I'm in corral C for the half/full, which means corral A for the 5K/10K. Woot! Woot!

Oooooh was wondering how my Dopey corral would translate to 5/10k. Think I'll be in C with you!

Bib numbers and I ordered the last items for my outfits today! Been a good day (apart from still resting, although I did do my local Santa Dash 5k today and seemed okayish)!

Oh gosh... Corral e for the 10k... That's the furthest back I've been....

Also! Does anyone know if those roller sticks that look like marshmallows can go into a carry on? We're not bringing checked luggage and I'd like to bring mine along, but wasn't sure if the TSA would be against it and I'm not quite sure how to search for it...

Thank for all the info! If those are the same this year, DH and I will just make it into G for the full.

Since you all seem to know a lot more than I do, does anyone know how the Castaway Cay Challenge works? Will we get our bib for that in our marathon packet at the Expo or do they give those out the morning of the 5K, like they do for the regular CC 5K? Is it just a generic number, like they usually do for the CC 5K or since this is part of a challenge is there a specific number assigned to each person? I've been so obsessed over this marathon I've hardly even thought about the cruise portion and the 5K.

My sim is finished!
3-6-13-16 ... would've liked to go more today, but I still have at least two more long runs planned before Dopey so I'm OK with it. I tweaked my knee during my 10K run, and then I did my "half" over some pretty serious hills yesterday, so I'm completely fine with how today went.

At this point, I feel confident I can do the combined distance. I really just wanted to see what my sustained average pace would be and, frankly, I'm pleased with it. While I'm not fast, even over 16 miles I was never more than an average 13 or so minute mile, so I'll take that!

Looks like I'm in Corral M - where I was hoping to be, so I'm pretty thrilled about that! Now, to just keep working to shave a little more time. But also to plan for stops and maybe a ride on Everest!!

I carried my Stick on to Disneyland. No issues!

Corral G for the full -- should work :)
I missed last years WDW marathon weekend after attending the previous seven -- I'm pretty darn excited :)

34 days and counting...

SOOO, had my fitness test half-marathon today. And well... set the following PRs all in one race!

1K - 4:09
1 mile - 6:52
5K - 22:03
10K - 44:36
Half - 1:38:47

Yep, I think I'm ready for Dopey #3!!!!

Congrats @DopeyBadger!! Your consistent training is really paying off. Are you following the Hansons marathon plan exactly or have you adjusted it any? Also, are you doing the beginner or advanced plan?

I'm bib 301XX for Goofy which puts me in B if the Goofy's are like last year (but 30000s instead of 20000s). That doesn't really make sense... I put in a 1:44 half, how does that get me all the way to B? Especially as my friend submitted a 1:43 half for the full marathon alone and would appear to be in corral C. Has anyone figured this out?

Hmm, based on last year's figures, I will be starting AFTER the last corral! (My bib number is in the 15000s). This doesn't really bother me; I am a novice marathoner and not looking for a particular time goal. Have worked my way past walkers before and can do so again.

Does anyone know if you MUST be in your corral at 5 a.m.? I am planning to drive (arriving by 4) and would prefer to hang out in my car as long as possible. I'm guess my wave won't get off until almost 6:30. That's almost an hour and a half to be waiting in place.

On a totally different question, do you carry gels or chomps or jelly beans with you on your long training runs? I am coming from the cycling world. I have done endurance rides up to 10 hours but I usually have a small pack on my bike where I can stow a PBJ sandwich and other snacks. Obviously have no place to store that when running, so I am experimenting with gels. Or do you all run 20 miles without eating anything? (!)

Thanks for all your help. Mostly a lurker, but I am learning a lot. Best to all of you in your final training push and on race weekend!

Liz
