Marathon Weekend 2016

Normally I wouldn't ask this, but seeing as how we're going during Marathon Weekend or possibly the week following, I'd thought this be the best place to ask.

Biergarten Restaurant - How packed or in demand is it just after Marathon Weekend? My MIL wants to get our group of 9 to go there (probably later in the week following marathon weekend) but we've never done ADRs. Thoughts? Hints? I tried to do a trial reservation for July 16th and it seems there aren't any issues for spaces available.
With a party of 9 I would go ahead and make an ADR just to have it in case crowds are larger this year. You can always cancel, in fact right up to midnight the day before.

We are excited to run our first Disney marathons this January! We are staying at All Star Movies over the marathon weekend before switching over to a studio at the Polynesian. My girls are signed up for the kids race Sat at 11 am - will there be bus transportation from the All Stars to the Wide World of Sports at this time? What about from the parks? Just wondering if we could go to a park for an hour before the kids race & then catch a bus from say HS to WWOS? Or do we need to come from a resort using Disney Transport?

We usually drive, but are considering flying this trip & won't have a car if we do :)

I don't believe there is transportation from the parks themselves, but there is from the resorts. We are considering doing AK on Saturday morning then taking a bus over to AKL and catch the Expo bus from there.

All resorts are hosts resorts so will have buses to Wide World. For Parks, Studios used to have a bus to Wide World, but not 100% sure if that still happens. As said above just hop from whatever park to a resort to catch a bus to Wide World, but double check on Studios as it may have a bus.

Edit: Don't think Studios does anymore as the official site doesn't list it as an option.

Question for those of you that got the "In Training" shirts - what did you think of the sizing, specifically with the women's cut? True-to-size? Runs big? Runs small? Thanks

I have the guy version (obviously) and it seems to fit like any normal technical T which I always seem to find on the smaller side, I asked my wife about hers and she said it fits pretty true to size

I have the same experience... I get large for all my race shirts and my Training for Goofy is a large and fits like all the others. My daughter has the women's medium and it fits her like all her other race mediums

We did Biergarten for lunch on Marathon Sunday in 2014 - there was a group of 8 of us. I made an ADR about three weeks out and had no problems. The restaurant was not crowded at all.

If you haven't been it's SUPER fun. I've made it one of our ADRs for NYE at EPCOT this year!

Now that reservations have opened, where is everyone staying/when are you checking in/how long will you be there?

I'm bringing the wife and son (since it's just a few days after his birthday), staying 1/5 until either 1/12 or 1/13 (haven't decided fully), probably at All Star Sports.

Will there be a meetup for us DISers?

We are staying Thursday 1.7 - Mon 1.11. Fiancé and I are running the half with our good friend and two of his family members. Staying at Art of Animation suites (booked with a CM discount, so we won't know what section until check-in). We figure AoA was the best bet for two adult couples, and since DF and I don't have kids this is the only opportunity we will want or need AoA until kids are on board!

I wasn't going to make ADR's but I did. I just wanted to see if anyone had ever eaten at these places to get some feedback.

Narcoossee's
Boma (for breakfast)
Via Napoli

I have heard excellent things about Boma but not sure which meal is the best. For example, Chef Mickey's is good for breakfast but not so much for dinner. Is Boma better for one or the other or are they both good?

Narcoossee's I am guessing will be good. I know it will be pricey but it is my after race dinner treat so I don't mind.

Via Napoli- never heard anything about it. This is the one I need most feedback on.

I just have to add in a Happy Birthday to Disneyland!!!!

I love Boma for breakfast. There are a ton of good options, both "traditional" American style items and lots of great dishes with more exotic flavors. Highly recommended.

I've only been to Via Napoli once. The pizza was great. My only issue was the service was really slow, but I think when we were there it had only been opened a few weeks so I figure that's just typical new restaurant issues.

Yep Boma was great when we went last January would definitely go again.

My family, parents and I went to Biergarten for dinner the Tuesday after the Marathon last year. I set up the ADR only a few weeks before the race. We had a really fun time, good entertainment and food. It was pretty busy. We had 6 people, with 9 people I would recommend getting a reservation.

ADR opinion question:

I made one for after the 10k at crystal palace at 9:30. My mother and I currently run at a 14 minute pace, and that's what we put for corrals.

Will we have enough time after the race to go back to the hotel, shower and nap before heading out to this?

You might be cutting it close there even without a nap. I ran at an 11 minute pace last year in corral E second to last and when I finished I did wait for a picture for daisy and then headed back to POR showered and headed to Epcot. We got there at about 9:40ish. So I guess maybe if You don't wait for any pictures you could maybe make it with a shower but I definitely don't see a nap fitting in there.

Great thanks! I'll figure it out. What time do you recommend?

Well closer to 10 would probably be best. I would have to say that you'll probably have to scratch the nap. If you don't wait around too long after the race 9:45ish should work for you.

It's really up to you, but just some numbers to play with -

14 minutes works out to ~1:30 to finish the 10k with no stops for characters, etc.

You probably also need to assume that you'll start closer to 6 am than 5:30 am, to be on the safe side. So that would have you finishing at roughly 7:30.

Figure at least 30 minutes to get back to your hotel (so, roughly 8 am), and then another 30 minutes to get from your hotel to MK.

If you really must nap, I feel like breakfast is almost completely out of the question. Crystal Palace has breakfast unt 10:45 that morning, so I would shoot for the latest reservation you can get if you want to do both breakfast and a nap. But that means no photos during the race, pretty quick showers and probably only a 30-minute nap.

Yeaaah... As much as I love Winnie the Pooh that's not worth it! Thanks for the help guys!!! Id rather see characters on the course and go to crystal palace during another trip
