Marathon Weekend 2016

Now serious question -

For all the other races, if I had some other race weekend event (like ChEAR Squad), there was a separate waiver I had to print out - it was just a basic one, not unlike the one up for Pasta Party.

I've got Race Retreat for me and some ChEAR Packages but don't see a spot for those waivers. Did anyone who had these items this year have to print out waivers for those items? I guess I could just print out Pasta Party ones to be safe.

Yeah I was wondering this as well. I've got my mam gold chEAR squad for xmas and I thought I read somewhere that she would need a waiver as well, but couldn't see it on the RunDisney website. Didn't know if they would put them up closer to the time as there are still some available or if I just have to give her name and ID??

My Mom and Dad saw at the walkway next to the DHS bus stops last year (I remember the later clearly because I was in desperate need of powerade and some pain medicine at that point we did a quick exchange and I kept moving) it was before we turned to go down the Boardwalk. That's the only place I can think of off the top of my head that isn't on the list.

Question - Have Chear squad packages sold out?

If so, any tips on where my own "cheer squad" can be and not feel really mad at me for forgetting to purchase a package for them?

I guess it depends on who is in your Cheer Squad, but last year my wife was on her own and was able to see me as we came through the TTC, then again outside of Poly, and finally at the finish in Epcot. She just used the Monorail to get back and forth and had no trouble at all.

Does anyone have a better quality marathon course map? I printed it off from the Official guide but it is so blurry that I can't make out the drink stations or mile markers.

I don't believe a better one has come out yet.

Got it. Added Exit DHS @ 23.6 miles

My mom is doing the half and just did her first 13.1 mile run/walk today and finished at 2 hour, 45 min. She didn't submit a proof of time so she is in corral L with little ole me (this is her hobby, just joining her on this adventure though slow as I am) but hypothetically speaking, which corral would she have been in with that 2:45 finish time. Just out of curiosity!

Corral H was <2:45. So, potentially H or I. Send me your info if you'd like to join the Dis'er list. I've got 3 other people in L for the half. :)

Seeing this gives me an idea...
While some of us are experienced runDisney runners, we've got some people new to rD on the thread. So my fellow vets, let's help out the new guys ... What's one thing (or more) that you wish you had known before your first runDisney race?

I'll share a few things once I'm back on the computer, but I'm interested to hear what others say...

What are the advantages of the silver CHEAR package? Do spectators with this package get to stand somewhere special or is it just gold/platinum? Thanks!

I learned: Stop for character photos. For me, Disney is not about a PR. It's about having fun! I blew through PHM with NO PHOTOS! I was so mad at myself that I had to run PHM the next year and stop for ALL THE PHOTOS!

Manage your expectations.

And the end of the day, it's your race and nobody else's - so the race is truly what you make of it and only you can affect the outcome.

I put too much emphasis and stress on W&D so I could get my C2C that I couldn't even enjoy the race. Never again!

Some random thoughts:
1.If this is your first marathon, yes it will be disney and yes there will be cool things but there are a lot of hard miles when you are running on relatively boring roads. Be prepared mentally, that it's not all going to be fun.
2. Florida is flat but you go over some overpasses. Those can be harder when you are running than when you are in a car.
3. There are a couple of places where the course narrows. Be very aware of your surroundings. (actually just in general yo'll be running with 26000 other people, be cognizant of your surroundings, signal before you start to walk, let people know when you are going to pass them and d on what side.
4. For the half and full it's a long walk from the staging area to the start corrals give yourself plenty of time.
5. Porty potty lines are long everywhere. I find the ones before you get to the corrals to be the shortest.
6. I like read bathrooms. In general the lines for them can be long. I just noticed on this past trip that on the right hand side of the shop in the TTC there is another set of bathrooms. (there is usually a long line at the ones on the left hand side of the building.
7. Wear your medal to the park, and talk to other runners. This is awesome and in general everyone encourages everyone else.
8. Be prepared for everything weather wise.

Keep moving forward.

I wish I would've known to pack warmer! Last year was cold. That's really my own fault tho lol.

Otherwise I wish I would've known to thank all the volunteers I encountered, cheer on other runners, and stop for more pictures.
