Good morning fellow walkers/runners! I am in a very good mood as I have FINELY dropped 5 lbs since last Wednesday! YIPPEEE!!! We can all thank heaven for modern day preszcription appetite suprressents. I guess the Dr. was right- she said it would boost my metabolism and help to get me to a point where hopefully the diabetes meds would not be needed any longer (wouldn't that be great?!?!?) Anyway- back on subject.... I didn't walk yesterday- so I have to do it today. And I will this morning!

Melanie- did you read all the instructions on the HRM? I don't know much about them, but I have a tendancy to figure out the way I think things should work before I read the instructions! I'll try to find some info on them and let you know. I do know that when I went to Curves, and your heart rate went over what it should be, they had you slow down because they said when your heart rate was over the zone it should be in that you were burning muscle instead of fat. Based on that, I would keep the distance, but slow your walk. I'll still do some looking for you though!

In the meantime.... I've come up with a new mathematical equation based on my weight loss journey. This is is....

Lbs. lost + time needed to lose those lbs. = Mood
(And the faster the weight comes off, the happier the mood!) :teeth:

Anyone goes by that theory????

Hi Karen
:D Congrats on the 5 lbs you go girl:Pinkbounc I love the equation and agree totally.
No walk yet today. Did 1 1/2 2x yesterday am & pm and no more blisters the coolmax socks with cushioning at the heel were the key. Thanks for the mag Karen and fyi I found one locally so I've shipped it out to Debbie in Canada. Watch your mail this week DEbbie:wave2:

Good morning dis marathoners!

Karen, I like your mood equation! Isn't that true? Congrats on the 5 lbs! Did you pick up a new clippe?

I walked 57 minutes this AM. Yesterday was my day off. I actually live right on the route of an annual 5K race, so we walked that Saturday AM and let's just leave it that if this were Jan, the sweeper would definitely get me!! Got a lot of work to do!!

Have a great week everyone!! Happy walking/jogging/running!

good morning everyone!!

I posted on last weeks thread that I did the 2 mile walk for the Boys & Girls club in 35 min - so a 17.5 min walk.

I then did another almost 1 1/2 miles on the TM when I got home.

Yesterday I did 3 miles on the TM.

Karen - WOOHOO!! WAY TO GO on those 5 lbs!!! :bounce:

Maryellen - so glad you're not getting more blisters (yucky things!).

Beth - good job doing almost 1 hr already this morning. I don't know how you early birds do it - I've tried setting my alarm even for just a 1/2 hr earlier than normal, and I can't get out of bed. I'm just NOT a morning person!!

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

PD to everyone!

Hey Monica, my theory is that if I don't get it done early, I WON'T get it done at all. That is the norm for me. Plus in 95plus degree weather this week and awful humidity, if I don't get it done early, it's unbearable to do it at all!! I'm far from a morning person...my "peak" hours are probably 9PM-1AM, but I'm forcing myself into this and I think my entire family is learning new behaviors. Anyway, it's tough to do it some days and some days I shorten my length, but I love getting back to the house at 6:15 and knowing I've already put in my hour. I probably won't increase much beyond that regularly until Fall when things start to cool down here a bit. Until then I will just work on speed and maybe bump it up from time to time. (Plus I can tell you that it's a lot hotter for me to walk at 9PM than it is 5AM...I've tried it!!lol)

~~Beth

:flower1: :flower1: :flower1:

Well- I just did 1.5 miles of the 3 miles I'm supposed to do today. I did it in 31.26 minutes- which isn't too bad. I probably could've gone farther- actually I know I could've, but I started getting a weird springy feeling in the arch of my left foot so I decided to stop there and go for the other 1.5 miles later today. Patti (my trainer) said if you feel pain or discomfort- STOP! So- I did. Anyone else get that feeling? Just wondering what it is??

Maryellen- good for you for the 3 miles yesterday! And yeah for good socks! I really want to start looking into some of that coolmax clothing- have you ever used it? Glad you got the magazine- sorry it diudn't get there before you found some on your own!

Beth- I'm like you- I prefer to get my walk in early in the day because I feel like I accomplish so much more when I do. This morning I got a late start (didn't walk until 10:45) and I still have half my work out to do! UGH! How far (mile wise ) is 5K?

Monica- how did you enjoy that walk? Sounds like you had good time- Heck! If it were me doing that time, It'd be RECORD time! Was that a pretty easy pace for you to keep? If so- GOOD GOING GIRLY!
So- are you saying that you walked a total of 6.5 miles this weekend? HOLY CAMOLY!!!! That is too cool! Look how far you've come!

Hi Karen!

Glad you stopped when you felt a twinge - I agree with your trainer about stopping instead of possibly getting worse.

I think 5k is 3.1 miles, but not 100% sure.

WOW - you know, Karen, until you told me the total I hadn't even thought about logging almost 6 1/2 miles this weekend!! Who'd have ever thunk it that I would do that ever!! (and even like it). The pace I did at the race was not too bad (for 2 miles). I did think about the fact that I would still need to be doing another 11 miles, and I KNOW I wouldn't be able to do it at that pace now. I also thought about the fact that if this was Disney, I'd be in major trouble!

See what you WISHers have done to me!!!

Alot of what is driving me to keep moving is you all here - I know I have people that I need to be accountable to, and I don't want to disappoint anyone (and feel guilty). It's great knowing that we are (for the most part) in the same boat regarding this mammoth goal we have decided to undertake.

My hat goes off to those of you "morning people" -- I understand what you're saying about the heat/humidity, but I guess I'm already spoiled by my TM (love walking in the AC, watching a movie :D )

Weigh to go, Karen! Keep up the good work!

Monica, good for you on all the walking-in and out. My TM is out of order, and so it is only outside for me. And, yes, I believe that a 5k = 3 miles.

Maryellen, I agree with your comment on the quote. And my weightloss has been anything (make that everything ) BUT spectacular, and the mood is low. BUT coming here and listening to all of you changes things around!

I'm looking forward to the summer for the early morning walks, Beth. The kids are older now, they sleep in, and once I've read the newspaper and the email, I'll be off. Less than 5 weeks, and I'm FREE!

I'm doing the elliptical today. I've been around home for the weekend. It's a holiday weekend, here, in Canada, and I've had a houseful of teens celebrating their first MAY 2-4 weekend. On their own, but not out on their own. We all survived, and the house is back to normal.

Keep strong, ladies! We can do it!

Well- I did my last 1.5 miles. The foot was fine. I asked Patti about heart rates and if it's too fast should I slow down to get it back into the range or what. When she answers me I'll let ya know what she says.

Debbie- I know it can be discouraging when you are working so hard to lose weight and it doesn't come off! I'm so sorry to hear you are frustrated and sad because the loss has decreased. BUT- I can't help but notice how much has already come off ! That is so wonderful! How long have you been working on that? What are you doing to lose? I'm telling you- after 8 weeks of less then 1500 cals/day and LOW FAT- I only lost 10 lbs. AT that point the weight loss dietician put me on meds. It has absolutely astounded me that it has come off so fast. I'm sure the weight will not go off so quickly after a few weeks- but it is nice to know some has come off. One thing that I have learned from the dietician is that there are many medical conditions that effect our weight. I have several but one that I didn't know was that women that have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome always have a difficult time losing weight- they are more likely then not to be very overweight- through no fault of their own. I've learned so much going to her and the Dr. she works with and it has helped me be more patient with my stupid old body! Anyway Debbie- you hang in there! You have come a long way baby! You're doing really well- even if it has slowed somewhat. Don't worry. You're working hard- and even though you may have to wait a little bit before more comes off, it will come off!

Wondering if there is room for one more? [as she sheepishly peeks around the corner]. I am starting from zilch! I have a desk job and do not get ANY excersize. I know that I need to start NOW or I will never make this goal for January. So -- here I start -- step by step. I was thinking that it would be fun to log my miles from now until January to see how far I walk. It is just over 1,000 miles from my house to WDW -- I wonder if I can make it that far?

CONGRATULATIONS on that loss Karen! You worked so hard for it girlfriend and I am just so darn proud of you right now!

Good morning marathoners!!

Only walked for about 24 minutes today. I generally walk a two block path over and over and over and it goes right in front of my mom's house and when she's up she heckles me on every pass so this morning I just headed home when she appeared. The veggie man was setting up his stand and he heckled me last week, too, so it just seemed like a good idea to come home. But we're heading to the mall today so maybe I'll leave hubby with teh kids and do a couple of fast laps there? AH....airconditioned training!! lol

Jody, welcome. Great loss in your signature, btw! I also joined only a couple weeks ago. Are you planning to be a walker, jogger, runner or combo? Doesn't matter. Just curious. My goal is to be a walker and stay ahead of the sweeper!! I like the idea of logging your mileage and walking to Disney!!

Karen, I like the new clippie!! I can just feel your excitement over your loss!! I'm like everyone...my losses have slowed down considerably, but I just figure I'm hitting those pounds that I have had for so many years it will take a bigger crow bar to get them off!! I'm think I'm hitting my "baby weight" from when I was PG with my oldest, 9+ years ago!! And I've got a long way to go after that!! Glad the foot was fine and congrats on finishing your walking goal yesterday!

DEbbie, hope your Victoria Day was a nice one!! I meant to post over the weekend to you!

Monica, I'm like you, I really do feel accountable to the group...I read at night before bed for motivation from the posts that were posted after mine, and then post after my walk the next morning. It sort of sets the tone for me to get up and out.

I have a question for everyone...I mentioned my heckler....do any of you have anyone hitting you with negatives along your way? I mean either with the exercise thing, or someone constantly bringing you food items that are not part of your program and how do you deal with those?

Have a greta day all!!
~~Beth

Hi guys! I am so excited for all of you, and just a little sad that this was a goal of mine that had to change... I know going to school will be a good thing, but I still am sad I won't be there physically to do it!

Wovenwonder asked me to walk with her in spirit as she readies herself for the marathon, I gladly am jumping on and to cheer her on.

I will walk and train with you guys and be there in spirit. Hopefully that is ok?

Hey everyone,

Today is a rest day for me. It felt good to sleep in till 6:30am.

Beth- Do they really say negative things to you while you are exercising. I could possibly see your mom (because sometimes family members do that), but did the veggie man really do that?? That's pretty sad. I hope you know him somewhat, or else he should keep his mouth shut!! Is it possible to find a different route? Don't let people's negativity cause you to alter your goals and stop your workout.

Renee,
Glad your joining us. Thats a fun goal to see if you can make it to WDW with your walking!

Karebare- Thanks for asking the question about the heart rate monitor. I can't wait to hear the answer. I am just at a loss about if I should keep pushing, or back it down till I can run in my range. I wonder if that will happen, lol!

Hi everyone! :wave2:
I've been MIA lately, sorry! The end of the school year is making things a little crazy around here. A few more weeks and I'll be able to take a breath!

I have been getting my runs in. This week, my long one was 7 miles and my "short" ones are 4.5, 5, and another 4.5.

Melanie: I don't know a lot about monitors, but I think you are supposed to bring your effort down until you can increase while staying in your target heart rate. I have read others saying that it seemed like they were going way too slow, but that it helped eventually.

Beth: I'm so sorry you have to deal with that! I can't imagine why anyone would think it funny or okay to belittle you. Can you tell them both to shut their yaps? If not, it might just be best to find another route as Melanie suggested. Please don't let it drive you home though!

Karen: Congrats on the weight loss! That's fabulous! Could you send some of those vibes this way, please...

Debbie: I'm right there with you on the "freedom" issue. Can't wait for summer.::yes::

Monica: 5 am is really early, but it's amazing how quickly my body got used to it. Today was a rest day, but guess what time I woke up, ready to go? Yup, 5 am!

PRINCESS VIJA, wovenwonder and AuntMeMe :

:wave2: Beth. The weekend went well. We had the 12+ teens Saturday/Sunday for the traditional May 2-4 weekend. Good kids, and nothing happened that I wasn't expecting. :tilt: Tornado weather, though, so it was a bit harry at times.

Oh, and, Beth, my DH still believes that the way to show your love is through food. It can be a REAL problem when I'm down, or frazzled. Have to admit, though, tonight he said, "Veggies in the fridge." But that's only because he thinks that HE is allergic to all things green. :earboy2:

Thanks for the pep talk, Karen. I know that I've done well, but I seem to be sliding (slowly, mind) UP the slope. :sad1:

I was to the doctor today and she diagnosed me with patella femoral syndrome aka runner's knee or housemaid's knee. I'll take the former, thank you very much. She told me that I can take ibuprofen for the inflammation (ie 3-4 times a day for at least 2 weeks), some physio/exercises (home or not, whatever fits into my schedule) and I can walk. . .but no running for the time being.

Jody, it's nice to see you on the thread. :) And Vija, you are doing something really important, so don't fret too-oo much, okay?

Colleen, I'm impressed that you can keep up with the long runs at this point. I'm lucky to see my kids some days, with all the things that need to be done at this time of year.

Well, off to do some reporting. :) Remember: Just put ONE foot in front of the OTHER! :teeth:

morning all :)

WELCOME AND ((((HUGS)))) to Jodi and Vija!!!!!!! yea!!!!!!!

ok -- i'm sitting here in my robe and jammies :) I got in from Vegas last night at 1 a.m., 40 mins from home. whew. oh my gosh we had an EXCELLENT trip! WW stayed at home with my darling family ;) and though we did some walking back and forth from the Sarah to Slots-A-Fun, that was the extent of my excercising. I do think I earned APs cheering at the craps table:teeth:

I indugled myself to a 2 hr 45 min session at the Spa. HEAVENLY! The massage was fabulous and my feet so deserved my first pedicure::yes::

my plan is to do my walk/jog intervals this afternoon. it seems very humid here:( it will probably be slower from the jet lag (yea jet lagt that's it---not drinks or sleep deprivation but jet lag:hyper: )

:worship:MOM is the big winner. she ALWAYS is:love2: I don't keep great track of my cash flow:rolleyes1 but I can say that I didn't cash ANY of my travelers checks:thewave: and brought a little cash home. seven come eleven!!!!

back to journaling today -- thanks for being here to keep me honest.

WTG on the loss karebear!!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: TROLA! I KNOW you can do this! snub your nose to your hecklers and don't let them get you down!!!

Hi guys-

Missed every single one of you (((((((hugs))))))

It was a fabulous time - and "YES" - I was a winner! WOW so much fun to take a vacation and not have to spend any of my $ and even brought some home that someone else lost, I was happy to be the recipent of their lost funds ::yes:: I'll agree that I am a "bit" luckier at slots than most; was part of that craps game where ohMom collected AP for cheering, and BJ playing definately burns calories as I had to keep checking my "cheat" sheet to just make sure I was making the right move :p

I treated myself to a swedish stone massage (er a well - guess someone treated me - not really sure who's $ I used for that - just knew that it "felt" even better when I thought - hey this is "free" (okay so free is relative - sometimes I worked very, very hard at those games :teeth: )

I, did want to report that I took a 30-40 minute walk one morning - weather in Vegas is wonderful to be outdoors where it is warm and doesn't even feel like it - no humidity - not like OH where it is thick enough to "cut with a knife" many a day.

I have just been catching up with everyone's progress - you guys have been really working while ohMom and I were playing! Good for you ::yes::

Time for me to get back to reality too - so I will be seeing you at the tm about 5:00 am and Saturday I am committed to walking the relay for life for 2 hours.

Gotta go - straighten the house we are hosting a gathering here tomorrow evening - sounded like an okay plan before I left - not now - but way to late to say "oooops" sorry just kidding - can't meet at our house ;)

Ohmom- Welcome home! glad to hear you had such a great time in Vegas- and oh so happy to hear you enjoyed a little luxury while you hwerer there! My first pedicure is scheduled for 3pm on Sunday, January9, 2005- at the SSR Spa. I can hardly wait! So sorry to hear about the "jet lag" though- isn't there some kind of a cure for that???

Well- I missed walking again yesterday- and probably again today because I still am not feeling all that well. I'll see how I feel around 7 or 8 tonite- if I feel better, then I'll walk. I do not want to lose the momentum I have right now.

Debbie- I'm relieved you went to the Dr. and got a diagnosis. At least you know how to treat it and can continue on your journey. How long have you been trying to lose weight for and how much more do you think you still want to lose? Are you telling me you are gaining some of your weight back?

Colleen- way to go with the continuing run! I'm afraid I rely far too heavily on this board for my motivation. I admire that you continue to train without having to visit everyday. WLV (weight loss vibes, or Wilderness Lodge Villas- which ever you prefer!) are headed your way my friend!

Beth- as for your hecklers- just remember the old saying- He who laughs last, laughs best. You will have the last laugh when they have to eat their own words (and foods) when you have successfully completed this marathon! In the meantime (ok- this is the new Karen speaking) I would ask them to keep their negative comments to themselves. It doesn't seem to bother them that they are bothering you with their comments- so you really should not concern yourself that what you have to say may bother them. If they feel freely to speak to you- you should return the favor. (I'm learning to stick up for myself- can you tell?!?!?)

Jody and Vija- I'm so happy to see you both here! What a great friend you are Vija! We will miss you in January- but you really are doing something important for you and your family- you keep that going girl! Jody- we need you to peek out from behind the corner momre often. You always have great things and info to add to discussions. Have you started your training yet? I'm cheering for you girly!

Melanie- glad your taking those rest days so seriously! Sleeping in until 6:30 am- WOW!!!! Girl- you were up on your rest day before I ever get up on a regular day! :teeth:

Does anyone else here have weight to lose other then Debbie and I? How much? I now have under 100 lbs..... I only have to lose another 90 lbs! Yeah me! (Man- do I have a ways to go!!!!)

Alright, I guess it's time I show my face... :(

I have been ENTIRELY naughty. Going home always does me in, and I have to move there in August! I ate out every single day I was there. No matter what I try, everybody wants to "go out for lunch" or "go out for dinner." It's as if food is the only thing we prioritize. THEN when you factor in all of this time spent eating, and feeling sick from eating, I had no time really to go run. When I did I felt like I was neglecting something else. I try to tell myself that I have a team commitment to practice each day, because I have always done team sports and my parents saw that as the priority, butt now, this isn't as much... So, I went shopping, I ran one day, and I did the bike one day, all in the past two weeks. And I mailed out the training plans to those of you who wanted them. That is the extent of my marathon practicing. OH, HOW MISERABLE I FEEL! YOu forget how little energy you had when you didn't follow these plans during your day.

So, here's where I make my recommitment statement...

The rest of this week I am going to get myself back onto my "good for my body" foods. I am going to organize my time and figure out each day when I have a "date" with myself. I will do this a couple weeks out. If I can manage a work schedule and meet someone else's standards, I can meet my own, right?! Have a little pride in myself! Then, I am going to refocus on getting motivated...

Sorry I haven't been posting much, but I'm sure you understand how I feel! It's hard to stay accountable when you aren't getting much of anything done!

I saw posted earlier up about anybody still trying to lose weight... I am looking to lose 20+ pounds by the marathon. I will look way better in my little running shorts then!

Keep it up, everybody! And throw out a little pixie dust for me, because evidently I need it!

"Here we go.... It's off to NEVERLAND! (You can fly! You can fly! You can fly!)"

That's the quote I'm going to use for this week... Get myself back motivated for that marathon...

Thanks!
Ashley

P.S. Everybody sounds like they are doing awesome. I am considering making my date with myself early in the morning, then i can't cancel as easily later in the day! Sounds like the trip was great! Sorry everybody else that I wanted to respond to, when you are naughty, you forget to do a lot! I'm gonna be better now!

I really had a lot of fun sending out people's training plans (oh, the things I will find time to do around 2 A.M.)

I would love it if we could have a database of our information so that when I am reading the posts i know who you are and if I get a late night urge to motivate, I can do that, too! I can type it up, and then send it out as attachments, so long as nobody is afraid of having their info out there? I need practice in this area, too, so it will be good for me.

Did that all make sense? I hope so...

So, if you could all send me the following information... I think Kamy might have it, too, but I haven't seen her in awhile?! I would just like to have a little list...

Disname
Name
Address
E-mail
Where you are staying in WDW
Arrival/Departure Dates
Favorite color
Favorite Disney Characater
Anything else you see as relevant/necessary for the world (or WISHWalkers) to know

Just trying to have a little bit of fun, because, as my mom said I am always the happiest hwen I have markers in my hands and time to waste...

Thanks, all!

Ashley
