Marathon Training Thread for 9/4-9/11

Wow everyone is doing so GREAT!!!!

I had a real tough run/walk on Tuesday, to a break on Wed. and then had a better time on Thursday. I think I'm at a plateau in training. Anyway, I'll be going to the gym after work today for a long run/walk (as long as I can stand on the treadmill).

Keep movin' everybody:wave:

oh my goodness you all are about of gabby gooses!!

everytime i sit down I realize I don't have time to properly read all the updates! darn! it's been a very busy week for me and i'll be gone some this weekend too; you may all just have to forgive me if I just move on and try to piece together the progess next week!

today I went to water aerobics, it's a good workout, i was actually sweating in the pool today. and -- FYI, Mom -- our walk tomorrow will be 6.75 miles not 6.25 ;)

oh yea, i really am having sore gluts, it's more like the muscle that attaches glut to hamstring. i think it has to do with new custom orthotics, new shoes that won't allow me to pronate my feet as I have always done in the past, etc. i believe I compensated for my feet rolling and now that my form is better my under-used muscles are suffering. toughen up old girls!

have a super great weekend everyone!

The Wishes Fireworks cruise for the GG meets at the Contemporary about 1 hour and 15 minutes before the actual fireworks are supposed to go off. It's a dessert buffet kind of thing and Capt. hook and Mr. Smee are there. They send the group off on the boat to watch the Elec. Water pageant before the Wishes fireworks display, then take you over to where you can see WISHES from the boat. After the display is over, they motor around a little and you should be back to the CR about 30 minutes after the fireworks are done. Somewhere in all that, there are pirate stories to be told. So- if the fireworks started at 7- we'd have to be at the CR by 5:45 and should be finished around 7:30- 7:45. Is that early enough on the Saturday before the marathon? This crusie is only available on Saturday and Mondays.

Did get a 3.28 mi. run walk in before supper. Love Friday nights. Just relax and get read for the weekend activities.

You are all doing such a great job of training. I just keep thinking I will need to do this 3 more times to finish the marathon. I seems a little over whelming but in 2 months , I've tripled my distance so things are going well. Just would like to drop some weight to ease my joints and muscles and speed things up a bit. I'll keep working on it but I just don't seem to be able to keep on a training plan.

I had to go in to the Dr and get an anitbiotic for my poison ivy. They checked my blood pressure and it has dropped 10 points on the top and the bottom. Would be great if my weight would do that LOL!!

Auntmeme: I got my clippies arranged and they look so nice but I now lost my countdown timer (go figure) Any new ideas?

Glad to see your all hanging in there!!
Have a great weekend

Well we didn't get in as much walking on the field trip as I thought we would and I didn't have time to get anything in after because DD and I had appoinments for haircuts and getting my hair colored (those grey hairs just keep on popping out :( ) and then I had to drop her off at a sock hop at school. So I guess today became a rest day. I'll have to get up early tomorrow to make sure I get a walk in before I go to my Stampin' Up workshop tomorrow. A day spent with the "girls" stamping is sounding very good right now!

Beth Yahoo you beat that hour mark! It sounds like you've been doing some interesting studying about Canada!

Susan We have Piggly Wiggly grocery stores in WI too. I have always thought that was a strange name for a grocery store ;)

Karen I love the idea of a "mini meet" with all of us that have been training together! I keep getting more and more excited to meet everyone here and I think a mini meet would be a great way. The Wishes cruise sounds awesome and I yhink it sounds early enough on Sat. night. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to sleep that night lol.

Dawn don't compliments like that just make you feel so good and proud of yourself! That is great!

Becky I'm sorry you needed antibiotics for your poison ivy, I hope it heals quickly now. Thats great about your blood pressure dropping!

Have a Great weekend everyone!

Cheryl :sunny:

Walked another 1.2 for a total of 5.5 for today, first time I've walked 2x in one day. Tomorrow I may not be able to get off the couch:rolleyes: have plans to hit a flea market so it will be very lite walking.

Karen I think the wishes cruise is perfect for sat, let's do it! What does GG mean?

Decaff sorry the ticker was deleted:( add it again next to the last clippe it should go right under. I want my bear smaller any ideas?

FYi I checked out the link for t-shirts from kamy's post and they have great prices. I bought 5 shirts:rolleyes: I'll let you know if I receive them and the quality. With the computer transfer paper I can make really cool shirts for all different occasions, wow technology:)

Hi  I'm back from Disneyland! Had a great trip, but a bit too much 'special' eating  (well, it was a brithday celebration for PixieMagic) We did do a mall walk Sunday, 3.75M.

Left at 5AM Monday morning, I forgot my pedometer!!!! But we put in a lot of miles UNTIL Wed morning when I blew out my hip scooting off a concrete planter we had been sitting on waiting for DL to open! I could barely put any weight on my leg when I stood up, but after a few minutes I was able to 'walk it out'. The rest of the day and Thursday also I had to walk/sit, walk/sit. Too much of either had me limping. Not really painful, but not good. The swimming pool really made it feel better (cool water, no strain). I was back at work today and it's a little better, but I have an appointment with the chiropractor tomorrow morning to be put back in place! I keep telling him he needs to come to WDW in January ::yes:: So with his OK, I'll be doing a long walk Sunday....but probably at a very easy pace, I'll encourage PixieMagic to do two laps for each one I do.

I'll check in Sunday on the new thread and let you know how the appointment went and what he says about my next stage of training....I'm not sure he's going to want me to do the speed I need for the 10K in four weeks, but I'm at least going to START that race!

I got in a 6.7 mile run/walk last night in 90 minutes. I ended up getting really sick afterwards. I think it was low blood sugar. I think I am going to have to "refuel" along the way to avoid the low blood sugar. But I am psyched! That is my best time so far. I ran 40 minutes at 5.2 mph.

BUT the treadmill is sooooooooo boring. I don't know how I will force myself to endure it for longer periods as training goes on. I really wish I had more opportunities to walk outdoors. I do the treadmill at the gym at work while DS is at daycare.

Just back from my morning walk. I did 4.35 miles in exactly 70 minutes. I was discouraged that I was going as fast as I could (with a little jogging), and I still didn't break the 16 minute mark. Then I reevaulated and realized that when I glanced at the stop watch at the one mile mark I had done a 16.8 minute mile. That means that the last 3.35 miles I averaged 15.88 minutes (not too obsessive, am I:rolleyes: ). Now I just have to find a way to warm up a little faster, and add mileage, and I'll be all set.

I'm going to try to repeat today's walk tommorow. I hope everyone is having a great Saturday!:sunny:

Dawn

good morning everyone!

Does anyone notice anyhting different in my siggie?!?!?

I finally got my 30 lb clippie!!!!! And now I only have 3 more lbs. to my 35 clippie! YEAH!!!! I have been waiting such a long time to get this silly little gold clippie!!!!

Ah, you guys are terrific! You know how hard it is to get caught up on y'all? I am so proud of each and every one of us. We are STRONG, we're INVICIBLE, we are. . . .

Karen, congrtatulations on that new clippie. It looks WONDERFUL on you. (I am partial to the gold....do you think that's why I gained some back?) My fingers are crossed for the Disney store. I think that you looked lovely in your new (colour removed for those on Atkins) pants!

Oh, and a WISHes cruise would be perfect. Since I'm only there for the weekend (well, I'm sneaking a couple of days to get there and back), I'd love to do it on the Saturday. I would think that we'd need to book ASAP. Do we need to credit card it when we reserve??

Beth I, who doesn't go to Florida forty-nine times a year has heard, and shopped, the Piggly-Wiggly. That's one for me, Susan! Can't you just see your butcher's eyes. Heck MY butcher's eyes would bug out. We eat a lot of chicken, fish, pork, beef, Kraft Dinner and hot dogs here at our house. I just wish that I could find a recipe for some good southern biscuits. (no way bread is coming out of this girl's menu)

Dawn, it was good to see you again. We need to post when we are off plan, as much as when we are on. Believe me, there isn't anything that I haven't done (or will do :p ) in the eating category. How did the little ones do this week? Great walking on Saturday, Dawn. I figure the walk from the last corral to the starting line will be our warm-up.

Tara, another one it was good to hear from. And Ashley. I can tell how busy you ladies are! MeMe, it looks like you got right back on course this week. Good for you! Jackie, it looks like your DL trip went well, and you practised your walking a lot! Take care of that injury, though. Hmmmm. I think that I heard less than 4 months being mentioned. :smooth:

Bev (I WISH that I could drag myself out of bed in the morning!) , Mollie and Cheryl (and Sundie, too) you are inspiration to all of us who tend to be a bit "behinder" right now. But watch out! We'll catch up!

TigerLily, taking those moments to walk when we're waiting for others is a great plan, don't you think? Hope DH is doing better.

Hey, Beckie! That clippie looks good on you, and you got your countdown clock back. See, you CAN do computers! lol Good luck to your kiddos on the weekend. MY driving is cut back a bit right now, and believe me, I am ENJOYING that!!! :teeth:

Susan, Mary Liz and I walked this morning. 8.5 miles in just over 2½ hours. . . and that included the warm-up and cool-down. We are getting there. I know that Mary Liz would have liked to have gone faster, but Susan and I are content to build up our strength and add the speed as we go along. We did a 15 minute time at the 6 mile mark, and did that mile in that 15 minutes. I was encouraged by that.

Well, now I have a few hours preparation time for school next week. Good work, ladies! Just remember. . .

Take care, and stay focused. Slow and steady wins the race. . . . and the Donald medal!

As Debbie wrote we did 8 and 1/2 miles. I did an extra .4 pacing between the two parking lots waiting for them to show up. I am tired now though. I stopped on the way home at a car wash for Cystic Fibrosis (it's Shinerama day here in London, that's when the University/College students from all across Canada shine shoes to raise money. It started that way but has expanded to door to door canvassing, bbq's, car washes, concerts (by the music students), etc.) and I didn't eat my carbs right away. Boy did I feel sick, but now I'm much better as I have way too much laundry to do.

I love the idea of the cruise!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc How many people does it hold?

Well, tomorrow will be a rest day because after this first week of school I am pooped. Next week I hope to do my long walk (6 miles) in the Terry Fox Run. He was a Canadian hero so since these legs are walking anyways I may as well make it worth while.

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!!

here's a thread about the Wishes cruise availbale for GG (Grand Gatherings) Thought you all would be interested in reading it. On the first page go down to the 3rd from the bottom post- That will be the first post about this event. There are other posts throughout the thread about this as well. Sounds like fun to me! Not sure, but I think it holds about 48 people???? I'll make some calls on Monday about it.

Well, I FINALLY got my walk in for the day. 3 miles in 54 minutes. I've been so busy this week that I haven't had a lot of time to post to everyone. I'm sorry about that! I'll try to do better next week everyone.

Congrats Karen on new clippie:bounce:
