5 more weeks!!!!

Can you believe that?!?!?!? 5 weeks from today, we will all be sitting somehwere in WDW, basking in the glory of the fact thath we completed a year long goal! That's just so exciting to think about!! :flower: :flower1:
Ok now, come on..... how many of you ever thought you'd get to this point and be really serious about finishing a 13.1 mile walk!!! I can tell you I thought that I wanted to do it, but honestly, I didn't ever think I'd actually do it! I owe many many thanks to all of you. If it had been for your support and advice and cheering, I KNOW I wouldn't even be thinking about doing this in a few weeks. SO-

Today is a rest day for me. My schedule looks as though it is starting to calm down some. I walked those 6 miles yesterday and my lower back was telling me about it today! I ahve a rest day tomorrow too.... and I'm happy I do! Then it's 2,4,2,4 rest, 10. The following week I'll do 12 miles!!!

Let's have a great week with work outs this week ladies!

Hi all........
Getting excited about the marathon........does anyone know how many Wishers are gonna be there? I am a little concerned however, I have not yet recieved my packet yet.
I did call them adn let them know and they said they would send another..........
But still waiting..I know once I receive it, it will all seem so real then.......
anyway as far as training, I plan on getting on the treadmill later and going for an hour.
Tomorrow, I plan to go for 2 and half hours. I should be able to complete nine miles, tues day should be a rest then wed. I go back to work.

another week to the countdown :) got my 60 min walk in about noonish today. it was a pleasantly brisk day here in the buckeye state :teeth:

the final month is not far off, wowser! here we go........................

I walked 7.5 miles today. We have been blessed with good weather so far this fall (no snow here yet). Today it was sunny and about 36 degrees fahrenheit. Have a good training week everyone!

Good Monday Morning Everyone!!!

I didn't get a long walk in last week because "life" got in the way. However, I did get up this morning and do a mile very quickly on my treadmill. It's freezing rain/snowpellets here and I just keep thinking that in 5 weeks I'll still be at Disney World.

I'm hoping that the short, fast walks on the treadmill will help build up those leg muscles for the long haul. I'm going to try and do a longer walk on Wednesday.

Have a super day and an even greater week!! :Pinkbounc

Oh my goodness - time flies - only 1 month to go :earboy2:

I did 5.5 yesterday. Today is forecasted rain, same for tomorrow :sad2: will have to go to dm to use her tm. Any forecast for marathon weather yet? anyone wearing shorts, of course under some layers :D Have a marvelous monday training!

Good morning WISHers! I'm not sure if there are many runners with your group so I wanted to say "hi" again. I just ran 4 miles this morning with my buddy who is doing the 1/2 with me. Our long run is only 6 this week as we did 10 miles last week--what a killer! Time is really flying but we are beginning to feel more prepared for 13.1 if that is possible. Any other runners?
I don't know about the weather yet. My buddy and I were just talking about it. I guess we'll have to wait until the race is closer to figure out how much to layer. I'm hoping for cool (not cold!) and dry. Happy Monday training, everyone! Vicki :)

Hello Karebear...I was waiting for your post...I went too early this morning I guess ;)

Did 4 miles today--oh it is soo much more fun when the coach isn't telling us to go for lactic threshold or VO2 Max (translation--run FAST!). I pondered going longer--but the heebie jeebies of being out early were getting to me...I felt better when I saw other walkers/runners. But it didn't help when I woke to what sounded like a screaming woman (I was soo ready to call 911) and figured out it was indeed my cat making all that racket. A little too early in the week for paranoia to set in about running :earseek: . Scared the heebie jeebies out of me. Thankfully--there was no human life in danger!!!

ME, ME, ME!!!
:moped:

Running the full though--and I do intervals...9/1's...with an occasional 1/1 thrown in to wake my body up.

Hi Lisa! I am so impressed with you doing the whole thing! Wow! I would love to do a marathon, but do the whole thing 1/1. I may be able to finish if I tried that! Good luck with training. It sounds like you're in good hands! :cheer2:

Hello Wishers!!
Today is a day of rest of me, but I did get my crosstraining in yesterday. We had some flooding in our basement, so it looks like my treadmill will be out of comission for a while! :scared: As much as I hate using it, it was VERY nice to have available for those rainy days.

This week my long walk is schedule to be 6 miles (after last week's 8). I am contemplating doing 9 miles instead. Here is what the rest of my long walks are scheduled to be (MFM schedule)...
wk 10 - 6 miles
wk 11 - 10 miles
wk 12 - 8 miles
wk 13 - 5 miles
wk 14 - half marathon

Does anyone think it would hurt to switch the 6 for 9 miles? I feel like I need more long distance endurance, but I guess the MFM is really working for me, so I shouldn't tamper with it.  Any opinions welcome!

HI all, getting excited here, I got some threads today!
Just got back for the thrift store and found some treasures....
My first layer which I paid 6 bucks for is and set of running pants and top (skin tight will keep me warm)......
I found a tight zipper down runners sweater an that I will put over it ( 5 bucks). and then an old navy zippered sweat shirt (4 bucks). I was not able to find pants however, I am looking for the ones that button down the side so I can just take them off without to much work.

just wondering.........

whats everyones bra situation? I think I may have to wear two bras....... I am a 36/8 big B......
they were hurting a little after my 8 mile run.....
Gonna do another long run this evening I will try two.......
haven;t gotten the socks yet or my waist pack........

anyway till next time

Renee- aka, wiskband....
I don't know if you are running or walking the half or full marathon...but, I would definitely try and figure out your bra situation quickly! I am about your same size, running the full marathon. During my 18 mile training run in an organized race I had some serious chafing from a bra. I have worn this type of bra for YEARS with no problems. I guess the one I had on was a bit old, elastic not so elasticky anymore! I had bleeding abrasions on my skin from where this bra rubbed. I didn't feel it when I was running, I only noticed some chafing under my arm pit which I get frequently & really bothers me!! (I have to be very careful what type of shirt I run in for long distances)
Anyway, on my next long runs I made sure to wear a "newer" bra and also applied aquophor to my skin where it had rubbed previously and I have been fine. Be careful if you do 2 bras, I would be afraid of blisters/rubbing. You might just need a more supportive Bra?

Also, I got a good fanny pack at Circuit City. It is a caselogic and it is made to run with a CD Player-- plenty big to stash a camera, cell phone, power bar or gel, tissues, lip balm & whatever else you might need. It is made out of neoprene and the bulk of it sits at your lower back. I was concerned about the comfort of wearing a fanny pack while I run but this one does not bother me, at all.

I have seen alot of people mention the coolmax socks. I actually prefer Thorlos, just my preferance. They are a thick sock if you like that.

oh, the bra I wear is the champion seamless double dry fit. I buy it pretty tight, I wear the S/M. (I HATE to bounce around when I run ::yes:: )

thanks for the info.alot to consider there glad you mentioned the fanny pack from CC. I would definitly like something to fit my walkman. anyway, I am doing my long run later this evening, i am gonna try both bras to see how that works.......
thanks again

think about all the things I have been reading here the last few minutes, but tomorrow is another day and I think better on Tuesdays :p So tommorrow I will chime in with my thoughts, but for today let me just say "YIKES" all this 1/2 marathon talk makes me nervous!!

I gotta get my act together for the holidays and then I will really be into "it" but my biggest and best thing for this Monday is that there was a scrumpulicious box of chocolates within 3 feet of me ALL day and I didn't have one!! I am so happy that I just kept thinking, I would like to do this walk at least 5 lbs lighter than I am now (Karebear are you with me?) so I just resisted!!! and whew by the end of the day - it was gone - so until the next box appears (and I am in an office where they just keep popping-up all month) I can relax and gather strength to get through the next one unscathed! Off to have a cup of green tea, just finished a really healthy stir fry dinner and I am all done eating for tonight, so another Monday "bites the dust" - yep looking forward to Tuesday, it's a cross training one for me - think I will make a date with Denise Austin for tomorrow morning.

Keep up the good work - you will all look so good with a Mickey or Donald medal in your picture :cool1:

Hi gang! Back from Disneyland. Does spending nearly 14 hours on your feet count as cross training? OK, so I guess I'd have to deduct ride, shows and meal time (there was a little nap on the rocking chair in front of the fireplace at the Grand Californian  ). What I really found amazing, was how I felt on Sunday....NOT SORE! I guess all this training is having some affect on my everyday life. I was a bit stiff after the 5 1/2 hour drive home however.

Today I did a 40 minute walk....wanted longer but the weather is not cooperating, rainy and cold. If it's still ucky tomorrow I'll have to bite the bullet and do the dreadmill at work.

Have a great week everyone, and when you get a chance, stop here:

and talk about breakfast on Saturday!

I'm DEFINETLY with ya Grammy!!!

I wear a champion sports bra - I am 38C, and it works well. I always put bodyglide under my arms, so I haven't noticed any chafing. I find it very supportive and comfortable.

Today is a rest day - I did 8 miles yesterday. So today I am putting the christmas decorations up!

And some good news. Back at the end of October it was announced my centre was closing and 200+ staff would be out of work effective Jan 21st. Well today I was placed in a similar position in another centre (same company)! My new position will start when the current one finishes. So now I can enjoy my week at Disney and not worry about no job when I come home!

Sorry its been so long since I posted, - Life just seems to be getting in the way this month. So here is a quick update - Last week was a good training week. On Saturday I celebrated my 30th Birthday by running (the whole way) a 16 miler. I cut 8 minutes off of my previous 16er. :Pinkbounc

Today's run was suppost to be a 5 mile, but I couldn't get moving. I ended up walking 3 miles. My legs just had no go. Every time I tried to pick it up to a jog, I would get achy all through my legs. I kept thinking that the worse thing I could do today was to push too hard and get injured. So I am content with my short walk. I know that there are bad running days, plus I did push hard on Saturday - Here's hoping tomorrow is a great run!

Grammy - great job on the chocolate advoidance!!!

Lisa - I'm sorry your cat scared you - I think I would have strangled mine :P

Greety - :( - That's awful about your treadmill - I tried to come up with something possitive, but that just stinks - you have my sympathy.

I am so proud of everyone - Can you believe we are so close? :cheer2:

Found out later in the day it wasn't the cat--it was a neighbor's dog. Either the dog was in labor or was very ill. I don't know what was going on with it. but they had it in their front yard...and were coaxing it into the house later in the day when I heard the familiar sound. It just wailed and wailed. I feel sorry for the dog--but always like a good confirmation that a situation presented no danger to me.

Hubby is out of town--so I get to do 6 miles on the treadmill..I think I am going to do some speed training with a series of 1 minute runs/1 minute walk intervals. That will surprisingly make the time go by much more quickly.

Today is a cross training day--but I have the sniffles...so I'm hanging low and going to clean up my house. I may get on the TM this evening and then do my intervals tomorrow evening--but we shall see! Would be nice to get the kids in bed early, hop on the TM and then shower and see my Amazing Race this evening. Hmmmm, decisions!
