Did I read that correctly that you take the Gu gel and mix it with water in your flask?
Well, gosh!!! I didn't realize I had come up with something different! GU was the first energy booster type thing I ever tried. I had read people's comments on the boards about the taste and texture, but felt like I needed to give it a try once I got up to doing 6 miles or more. I had a time getting the packet opened (like Howard, only I didn't have his excuse, I'm just not real coordinated!!), and then I wasn't sure I was drinking enough water with it. Then what to do with the empty packet (Cam, never thought to carry a baggie!!). My belt came with a SMALL GU flask, so....there you have it. Hey, if it helps one person.....!!!! I emphasize small flask(4 ounces)..I still carry my large water bottle.

Dana, sports beans were the next thing I tried. A whole packet was waaaaay too much sugar for me. Next, I tried just a half packet..still couldn't handle it. Again, it was Howard mentioning staying fueled every 15 minutes that gave me the idea to try just 3 beans. My attempt is just to keep a somewhat even keel and not get to place where I need something, and then when I take it, my stomache gets upset. I had that happen during a 10K and then during the Minnie and I am determined to avoid it this time!

I did try the energy bars today. I am definitely NOT a bar person! :lmao: :rotfl2: Anne

The key to successful Gu-age - the Gu stations are not near the water stations, so when handed packet do not open until you see the water station ahead of you. While running toward station, suck down Gu, grab water, gulp like a mad thing.. I can't bear the stuff and never use it while training, but I used it during the race (I know it doesn't upset me so it wasn't a concern) and really do think it helped. Mind you I also ate oranges which I never normally do - by that point i was just desperate for something else to do other than put one foot in front of the other and I thought it might liven things up a bit!! I'm firmly against chocolate though - we have a half here that runs past a chocolate factory at mile 11.5 - never again!!!!!

Well, I registered my DH for the marathon last night. :cool1:

Hopefully he's healthy enough to run by then! My MIL and FIL will come down with us, and we're staying the whole week after. Does anyone know how crowded the parks are at this time of year?

I think they're on teh crowded side that weekend, although I would nto knwo as I only made it to teh close of MGM SUnday night.

The following week was pretty low on teh crowd scale, though. Very nice!
