First off Congrats to yo uall that just ran it. we were able to see some of you run thru Animal Kingdom and were present when the last ran thru and were able to cheer you on. You all were very inspiring. so much so that our little group are interested in more details.

1st how long are the full and 1/2 marathon. 2nd for my Mickey crazed friend who was eyeing your medals, which medals are awards for what? And if you can give more hints, thoughts, advice we'd be most appreciated and I'm sure as I learn more I'll be bugging y'all for answers. :-D

Thanksand again Congrats on a job well done!!!!

oh and I just have to ask since I'm not a morning person *grin* is there an award for even showing up for the start? *laughing* j/k I've been teasing my 2 friends that I deserve one for being anywhere at 3 am *laughs* Thanks!!!!

The full marathon is 26.2 miles. The half is 13.1. Don't know anything about the medals, but most long races give out a "finisher" one to everybody that crosses the finish line.

Hi! Thanks for cheering!! I was doing great, until just after the Animal Kingdom part...miles 19-26 were much harder than the first 18!

The distances posted above are correct. Those are standard distances, so any time someone says they ran a marathon, it's always 26.2 miles.

The half marathon finishers get a Donald Duck medal, and the full marathoners get Mickey Mouse (he's heavy! but awesome).

the worst part of the WDW marathon experience is getting up so early...but I imagine that has something to do with the logistics of parking/shuttles and 24000 people plus spectators. Didn't help to sit out in the cold waiting for the race to start, but we warmed up once we got running.

Lots of characters on the course...lots of high fives and/or photo ops...I didn't bring a camera this time, 'cause I was really going for a faster time...but I can recall about 35 characters on the course...even Scrooge McDuck, and I don't think I've ever seen him out!

Again, thanks for cheering...it really helps!

Thanks Rundogrun and Ironz!

That's what I thought on the distance but wanted to confirm.

We saw i think it was Pooh and Tigger at AK cheering.

just for anyone popping in I didn't think the buses were that bad. I think we were at the AK park somewhere between 9:30 and 10 am for arrival at the bus drop off. I was expecting more tie ups with traffic and it seemed so smooth. They did a pretty job in keeping us all happy I think :-)

Tee Hee, here's my scheme...I am having a hard time convincing that we simply must go to WDW once a year, so now I've come up with a scheme where he will not be a ble to refuse. I already have a trip planned for Dec. 2004, but I will run the marathon in Jan. 2006!!

Let's just say I'm a tad bit out of shape....so this will be quite a milestone - DH can't deny me a trip to WDW if I meet my goal. If I am in shape enough to run the marathon, we are going. I can't wait actually. I used to be an athlete in HS, but that was a long time a go. Time to get back on track - literally!

Anyway, I just had to share!!

Go SnoWhiteRabbit Go!!! :-)

Home 2 days and managed to get my bum on the machine both days. I'm on a roll LOL Actually I was doing much better back in the fall but then I took a fall and while I let my foot heal I got off track so I'm trying to regain what I lost.

Crawling off the machine today I was thinking I'd be happy to do the 5K in Jan2005 LOL

I have to check with the lady who had this wonderful idea *shakes head* I really should stop listening to her ideas. But anyways she knew of a dog walk/run that we could do this spring/summer with or without our doggies :-) so maybe just maybe we'll be doing something come Jan2005

Give me a holler if you need a cheering partner sounds much better then a "gasping for oxygen" partner LOL

For those of you who are interested... and don't know already.. there is a thread on the WISH board consisting of quite a few DISers working on a goal to run the 1/2 marathon in 2005... Hop on over and check it out... it's very inspiring... it got me interested.. I am signed up and have started training... Yipppeee... Can't wait.. only part I am not looking forward to is the Early arrival!! OMG!! But it will all be worth it!! Come on over and join us!!

Kathy

Thanks Valentine! I stopped by last night just as hubby arrived home so didn't get to surf long but will today :-)

Thanks for pointing it out as I had no clue that was what it was :-) I arrive on the board and go autopilot by visitng the same sections each time.
