Marathon in late Sept early Oct 2011

Does anyone know if there is a marathon or half marathon scheduled in late Sept. or early Oct. 2011 at Disneyworld?

I am not sure, but I hope not.

I will be there the 24th to the 2nd. And I was hoping for light crowds.

I would think not. The weather in September is brutally hot and October can be rather iffy. Most Florida marathons are scheduled in Jan-Feb for that reason.

Just found answer.

It is the Food and Wine Half Marathon on Sept. 30 - Oct 1. The race is ran after dark.

Unfortunately the crowds will last until the 2nd or third.

We went last year on Oct 2 and found the crowds were still there. Guess we need to reschedule MK for later in the week.

Oct. 1st is also MK's 40th anniversary!

Last year, we went to WDW that weekend, and didn't find the crowds any worse than any other weekend of the F&W. Matter of fact, it was much less crowded than the following weekend, which was a 3 day weekend. DH got talking to some people on Sunday afternoon who had run the race, and they talked so positively about the great time they had that DH is running the race this year. It's a half marathon, and he hasn't run that distance competitively in about 25 years. He used to run marathons and half marathons, but hasn't for several decades. This year he'll be sixty, so he's really excited and already training for it. Me, I'll be lucky to stay awake to cheer at the finish line! Supposedly, they have an after-party in Epcot for event participants and families, but I haven't seen anything about it this year yet.
