Hello all - Planning on doing the WDW 1/2 marathon in 2012 and have a hotel question.

I have read on some blogs that people who stayed at POFQ could walk a short way to the starting line and avoid the entire bus scene.

Any past runners care to comment on that strategy?

Thanks

don't have that information as i haven't done it myself. which 1/2? i am hoping to do that in 2012 too.

I am going to transfer this post to the Events/Competition side of WISH. That is where most of thie discussion happens for the events and I'm guessing that someone there will have your answer.

I stayed at POFQ, but took the bus. Of course, it took no time at all to get there and the busses were empty. I don't think I'd walk it in the dark, through fields, but that's just me. :)

Disney does a great job with transportation. As long as you are staying on property, I don't think you will have any trouble get to/from your hotel. We always stay at POP- walk right on before and after the races

Do not risk the walk. Bonnet Creek is not overly busy but is a bypass detour around the race start. Folks will not be looking for you nor will you be all that visible.

Relax, take the bus or drive. You really should experience the event from the staging area.

I love the guy yelling as you get off the bus in the wee morning hours "go back to bed" I think he is there every year!

OP, please don't take this the wrong way. But, I can never understand why so many people - you are not the first by any means - want to find a quicker way so they can miss the busses or sleep an extra minutes. I just want to explain why you might want to take the bus.

First of all it is dangerous to walk and you don't get to drop a bag at bag check. But heck that is up to you.

First the busses. They are part of the experience. Getting on a bus at 4 am, everyone nervous but everyone having the same goal. Seeing bus after bus pull in dropping off thousands of like minded runners. Walking from the dark "into the light" (like the person directing traffic always say). It is so cool, not sure I'd want to miss it.

As for the extra 30 minutes of sleep... well you probably won't sleep that well anyway. By this time you have put many many hours into running, probably many in the early morning. Don't sleep away the experience. A lot of people complain about having to get here so early. Heck I look at it as I GET to be there so early (except 2010). It is all part of the experience.

Go to the race, take the bus and get there early. You paid for the experience, don't cut it short.

enjoy,
Duane

Thanks all. Looks like bus it is.

We were speculating we could walk/jog over as our warm up. But as many have pointed out, it's a bad idea.

Happy running.

Trust me...you will have a nice little warm-up trot to the corrals from the staging area.
