Just back from yet another fantastic trip to WLV (top notch) WDW & U:banana:

Managed to embarrass my DH by cornering every guide I spied in the parks inquiring re DVC @ CRV.

Finally, got one to bite...whether he was being honest or just adding to the rumour mill, i cannot say. Ala deep throat I will not identify the guide or park where I obtained these tidbits.

Here's the lowdown:

* CRV still not official (wink, nod).

* California DVC/Anaheim is a done deal - wouldn't reveal whether conversion of one of the existing hotels or new construction; or even the location.

* DVC plans to keep giving existing members 1st right of purchase on new development. Not so much as a courtesy to us but; we are an 'easy sale'.:rotfl:

* South CR tower will get the same treatment (think a mirror image) as the north one sooner than you would think. Didn't specify as to usage - resort inventory or DVC.

* Jim Lewis is destined for bigger things - soon.

* Said Mr. Lewis & Disney chieftains were out (checkbook in hand) doing a final site inspection on a non-park new location. If all the planets lined up they were cutting a deal.

* No DVC on Castaway Cay due to:

a) timing issues (based on a land/sea type package it would be too restictive to rely on using DCL to drop off & pick up guests - they didn't think people would want to be limited to arriving & departing on sep. days)

b) passport restrictions as to flying out guests due to medical necessity

Lots of interesting stuff:thumbsup2 ; hope 1/2 of it is true.

Very cool rumors.:goodvibes

A DLDVC would be awesome... I'd have to reconsider buying more AKV points if that's happening. regardless of where, s/he didn't say when such an option would be announced did s/he?

I agree:thumbsup2 When I mentioned we were trying to plan a trip next summer to DL just were hesitant to use points & chance going into reservation status if we had to cancel; he basically said - you never know...

Just wonder if they may designate one of the existing towers as a DVC (paradise pier - perhaps?) and not bother with the "home" amenties even a studio would provide:confused3 just to satisfy member demand.

ala AKV concierge perhaps?

I'm sure they know what they're doing, but I wonder how they will approach this strategically. DVC is a natural at WDW or DL, but not so natural without a theme park. Without a Disney theme park, DVC is just another player in a highly competitive market. It seems to me that DVCs at international Disney theme parks make more sense than non-theme park DVCs.

One possible strategy would be to expand DVC to existing destination resorts like Hawaii, Caribbean, etc...basically becoming another Marriott. With the Caribbean, they could work some tie-in with DCL. And, of course, they have a built-in audience of 100,000 current DVC owners who are potential customers both for sales and stays.

I think that's the plan.;)

Agree jim .

Yes, a Castaway Cay DVC would be a dream!!! I'm just so excited at any type of DVC expansion, though, as it means more and more choices!!:thumbsup2

Harder and harder to get certain reservations desired by most members at the seven month window!

I'd love to see another off-site DVC, especially if it's someplace up north this time. How about Colorado, Wyoming, northern California, Maine?

But, what if the new choices are also so wonderful that there are even more desired reservations . . . I can hope:goodvibes

Two things are certain as far as DVC is concerned. It will continue to grow, and rumors about when and where it will grow will continue here on the DIS.;)

We also heard from a CM that DLR DVC was a done deal, but that the exact location is still being determined. Hawaii was mentioned more than several times, so my guess is that Hawaii is the off site DVC. It seems logical to me that DVC, and DCL become as big a presence in the Pacific, as it is in the Atlantic.

Regarding DVC doing best at theme parks, do you think they would consider building a DVC at a non-Disney theme park (or big tourist destination) such as Colonial Williamsburg? Maybe Hershey, Pennsylvania? Maybe Sandusky, Ohio for a mid-America location?

I can imagine Cedar Fair(owner of Cedar Point and various other parks) would just love having a DVC in Sandusky.:lmao:

Snoopy and the Peanuts gang vs. Mickey

after Virginia had a fit about a theme park there. I would be very surprised if Virginia is not off the list as far as Disney is consider.

I can definitely see Hawaii - I won't buy it - but considering I have never visited Hawaii - i might if a DVC resort was there.

Still want CR!!!!!

don't know about Cal - it was such a disappointment last time. they announced it put it in the magazine and nothing. they didn't even tell members that Disney had sold the land to Marriott.

I want the thing build this time before I even consider going to Ca.

Well, if with the expansion of DCL in the coming years, and DLDVC, Hawaii seems like a natural fit for the expansion.

For my preference, a week at DL wouldn't be a fulfilling as a week at WDW. (Sure, there's things to do in the area, but DL isn't a destination like WDW is.) But you shorten that trip to a few days, then go stay a week at DVC Hawaii - YEAH BABY!!!!

I know it was a long time ago, buy Disney had tough times selling HHI and VB. As everyone knows, VB was cut down in size dramatically. The main building was supposed to serve a huge number of villa buildings ala OKW.

I have always wondered about the revenue generation at HHI. There are no theme parks or restaurants. My bill is always very small. Even with our dues, I do not think it makes much money for Disney.

Would an off-site DVC complex be viable? I think it is a tough call.

We'll see!
