Mani/Pedis for kids?

Hi. I searched and saw a thread on spa treatments for teens but my girls will be 3 & 4 at time of sailing. But they do like to go to the nail salon to get their nails painted. Does DCL do this for kids? I know policy is 18 to use spa services but is nail painting a spa service? Can you tell I'm the dad? ha ha. If they do the manis right in the spa itself, and they were allowed, I wouldn't do it since it wouldn't exactly make for a relaxing spa experience for others. I believe they do haircuts and was thinking maybe they do nails in that area too. We'll be on the Magic. If they can't I'll take them at home before we sail. Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

When we sailed last Aug I wanted to do the same thing with my daughter. They told us we couldn't make a ressie cause she was too young, but that to check with the salon when we got onboard and sometimes they even do specials for the mom/daughter crowd if ressies are light on a particular day. They told us it was most likely on a day where they were in port. We ended up having it done the weekend before we left as it was so much cheaper. Hope this helps.

You will be asked to hand over your man card prior to boarding for violation of Man Code 36.241 which clearly states

"when discussing various spa treatments, thou shalt not utilize abbreviated names such as "mani" or "pedi."

Instead, you are authorized to use the entire word of manicure and pedicure only if stated in conjunction with your wife instructing you to schedule an appointment for her to have such service. Otherwise, you are compelled to feign ignorance :confused3 and resort to a rough description of the spa service you are hoping to schedule. Example: that thing where you pain somebody's fingernails or that thing yall do to people's feet.

You can retrieve your man card from the port authority upon clearing customs on your return to Port Canaveral.

Thank you for your cooperation.

At that age, I'd just take them before you leave and let them spend their time on board enjoying the kids clubs and having fun in the pool. I had a mani and pedi on board once and together they cost about 3 times what they do locally at a good nail salon. For an adult, it's part of the fun (though honestly not worth the extra cost over a local spa), but there's *so* much going on for the kids that they won't even notice not going to the salon - and in fact, it could be an early start to the vacation to go get it done before you leave! That's what my DD and I did before our last cruise, and it worked out so much better!

If you want to do something girly on the ship, get their hair braided. Prices are competitive to local salons that do hair braiding, and you'll see tons of girls on the ship who get it done. If you do it on the ship before ports, you won't have people asking to braid their hair, either - since it's already done!

On ports days they sometimes offer the little princess package in the Salon. They will do the toe nails and nails and do their hair. We were able to arrange this for semi formal and my daughter than 8 yrs loved the attention.

You can also do the Bibbidibobbidi package in the shop, we did this for farmal night, then the get a small crown in their hair, sprinkels, make-up, they recveive a nice letter in the stateroom that they are invited for a treatment. This one was also a hit with our 8 yr DD (gives great pics for formal night).

Both were not cheap I believe $ 69 excl tip and VAT (as Magic stays in Europe).

This year we will go to a local nailshop....

Hahaha!!!! :lmao::rotfl2:

The spas don't accommodate children that young. I realize someone did a port day package with an 8 year old, but I think even the BBB won't take 3 year olds.

As a fellow man type person who gets pedicaures (yep, love em!), I vote for doing it at a local salon. Most of them love kids and want to get them hooked, the place I go charges $5 to trim my girls nails and paint them with any design they want, and the polish lasts a few weeks. My girls then sit in the chair watching the Disney channel while I get my manscaping done to my feet. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I had posted it elsewhere and never got an answer, I still cant figure out what is so earth shaking with the onboard pedicures to justify the price. I pay $30 down the street, which even that seems high, for a full hour pedicure with the hot wax and tons of massage.

Do it before you leave!

I did not really feel that the Mani/Pedi's onboard were worth it...especially since they started chipping right away.

Now I just get it done before we leave for home.

They don't do it in the spa but they do it at the salon....just inquire when aboard....very pricey although I think around 65 for nails and toes

Thanks for all the replies. Their aunt is coming and would take them and pay for it but even though it's not my money I couldn't justify it for small children. I or their aunt will likely take them the day before we leave. The hair braiding is a great idea. I'll have to be careful that their scalp doesn't burn (we're as pale as snow). Alsobrook...great post, I couldn't stop laughing.

I see lots of little girls with just a few braids and some beads.....head doesn't really burn and looks cute.

In all seriousness, I agree that the salon prices are high and I don't know that it's worth it....I might take them pre-trip and let them pick whatever color they wanted in anticipation of the trip.

Thank you for being able to take a joke too!

Go beforehand to a regular salon. They now have nail polish that will last from 2 - 3 weeks. OPI is one brand. It's a bit more money, but they'll look pretty all week without the paint chipping. They'll also have more fun on the ship without taking out an hour or two for the spa.

Definitely put sunscreen on the exposed scalp!!! My friend's daughter came back from their Dream cruise with a wicked sunburn on the parts of her scalp showing through her braids, because her mom didn't think about it. It hurt her so much she had trouble falling asleep, and then came the itching and the peeling :scared1:!

I don't recall the minimum age, but on the Dream they offer an "ice cream mani/pedi party" for the girls. We purchased this ($65) for my DD12 before dinner the first night had the polish lasted all week, plus she had the best time!

I had just paid $37 to have mine done at home so it was definitely more on the ship, but the chocolate scrubs they used and the fun she had made it well worth the difference to give her the experience :goodvibes

If you are getting hair braids done onboard--you can get the beads coordinated to match your DD's princess dress. I saw the cutest braids and coordinated beads on a little girl wearing a Snow White princess dress. So sweet I had to stop walking around the deck and admire her!

White as snow people here too....I definitely put sunscreen on my daughter's and my scalp if we don't have hats on. I either use a sunscreen stick or spray on my fingers then dab onto the scalp. I like the stick for trips so you don't have to worry about the nozzle breaking. Also be sure to apply to tops of ears.

I've had many nasty scalp burns when it even hurts to brush the hair! Forget blow drying shampooing and sleeping!
