Trip Report Tues 11th May Sun 29th May 2005
Magic Kingdom
It may be hard for some of you to believe, but were not big fans of the Magic Kingdom. I think we visited it twice in the late afternoon and only once did we go for opening, and that was on our last full day in WDW and we went during Extra Magic Hours. We caught the bus from the resort to the Magic Kingdom, so that we werent held at the TTC and then have to bother with the monorail or ferry. After waiting 15 minutes, there was a countdown from 10 and then we were allowed in. Most of the people (including us) headed to Tomorrowland and as the crowd rushed off to Space Mountain, we decided to go on Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin, as there was no-one ahead of us we were straight on. So after battling against the Evil Emperor Zurg we went to have a look at the photos that were taken while we were on the ride. A CM approaches us, and I signal that we dont want the photo when shes says that as were the first family of the day to ride Buzz that we can have our photos for free, (BTW it was a shame that we werent looking at the camera properly during the ride), so the CM gave us a certificate with Tomorrowland Family of the Day on it and our free photos one of the girls and one of me & Paul and we were on our way (we didnt receive any other perks sadly, but we were really pleased).
Next we saw our friend Stitch, so after a quick photo we went on Stitchs Great Escape, now we tried this at Christmas and we werent impressed at all, but they seemed to have changed a few bits and we all enjoyed it this time.
As the crowds had moved on, we took loads of photos outside Cinderella's Castle then waited for Adventureland to open.
When Frontierland had opened at 9am, we headed over for Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain, well Splash Mountain was closed so there was a huge line for BTM, so we got a FP for BTM and we headed off for some pastries and goodies for breakfast in Main Street.
At 10am Mickeys Toon Town Fair was opening so as we walked through Tomorrowland where Becky noticed a sign saying meet Buzz Lightyear in the Timekeeper lobby, when we got inside, there was only one other family in there and along with Buzz was our pal Stitch again. We had a right laugh with Stitch, we took yet more photos and as we waited to see Buzz, Stitch started messing around and squirting us with a water bottle. We had our photos with Buzz (who made Paul pose with him hee, hee) and then we set of to Mickeys Toon Town Fair. We saw Minnie, Donald and Goofy in the Hall of Fame, and then we saw Pluto in Minnies House.
We then got the train back to Frontierland, Splash Mountain had re-opened so we got a FP, and we used our other FP for Big Thunder Mountain. We wandered around some of the shops and even had photos with Cowboy Goofy, and then we got on Splash Mountain where I got soaked.
We also went to see Mickeys Philharmagic, that is such a great show (much better than Shrek 4D), with some great music, smells and of course daft old Donald Duck.
As it was nearly lunchtime we went to the Noodle Station in Tomorrowland and we were gutted that it was closed. The girls had really enjoyed it the previous week, but we didnt know that it had closed especially as it had only been open a few months. We had a quick photo with Space Chip & Dale and then headed out.
All in all we had a great time.
We dont usually bother with parades or fireworks as weve seen quite a few over the years, but on one evening as we left Magic Kingdom (to try to beat the crowd) we did see Wishes from the lake and it did look very nice to see the fireworks going off over the castle from a distance.
Animal Kingdom
Again, this isnt one of our favourite parks, but as we were unable to get into Chef Mickeys for breakfast during our whole break (unless you wanted to be there for 7.20 am, BTW next time I will make a P.S.), we decided to make a reservation for Donald's Breakfastosaurus. We arrived about 9.20am at Animal Kingdom and went to get a FP for the Kilamanjaro Safari, on the way we saw Flik and took some photos along with some shots of the Tree of Life.
Our P.S. was for 10.20am, so we headed over and waited outside for our table to be ready. We were called in at 10.25am where the server informed us that the characters would be out around 10.50am. First we went up to the fruit/pastries counter, we had some fruit and danishes and then went into the other room for the cooked food. I was really disappointed in the variety of food on offer, dont get me wrong I filled my plate, but with only 4 different items (there were more but Im not keen on the bacon or waffles over there). The server kept the orange juice coming and within about 20 minutes we were full. Next thing we saw the characters come into a nearby room, as there were about 20 tables before us, DH decided to pop to the loo, well within 5 minutes all the characters (Mickey, Donald, Goofy & Pluto) were heading towards us, then it was mayhem I would say that within 2 minutes all the characters had been to the table, had photos and were even standing next to each other waiting to see us. It was madness, DH came back into the room just in time to see Donald (the last character at our table) and then they were gone. I was so disappointed with the whole experience, we love going to Chef Mickeys and really enjoy the food, the atmosphere and the time with the characters, but this time we felt short changed with this very hurried and expensive half an hour. Ive never needed to make P.Ss before, but I will in future.
Anyway after breakfast we went on the Safari and the girls did Triceratop Spin (I couldnt face this after eating). By lunchtime it was extremely hot here (it always seems to be hotter at AK than anywhere else) so we escaped to a water park.
Part 5 to follow ..
