Managing two use years

We have June use year with SSR and AKV and a March use year with SSR. AK is the only one I care about booking at 7-11 month window. We bought the June contract first. At that time, we always traveled when school was out. Our kids now get out of school in May and we like to go to Disney the last week in May, which is why we bought the March use year.

We use our March use year points for May travel and if we travel in Nov-Feb, we use the June use year. We have not had any issues.

We have two UY and have found that it just is a bit easier to use each one to book their own nights, not transfer and deal with borrowing if need be.

This way, we always have access to the points online and don't have to worry about not seeing them.

My goal is to get at least 100 more at some point at BWV for my June UY so that I have both resorts I own--BLT and BWV--in both UY.

So far, its worked out well for us to do it this way!

People do own more than one UY. Yes they can be managed, but unless you have a good reason for getting more than one, why create extra work for yourself. More of anything increases your exposure to the possibility of potential problems.

As always, what Bill said is true.

If your two use years have enough points in each that they can individually book trips, then why not go that way if you tend to travel twice a year.

If it is a small add-on, and you will continually need to transfer points to your main account to book a reservation, then you've made your life unnecessarily harder. And who wants to do that when planning for vacations...

So multiple use years could work for an experienced owner who intends to use the contracts independently. But for most buyers it would be more trouble than it is worth.

You can also have multiple UYs with multiple resorts per UY. This opens up the 11 month window at various resorts. Hard to do all the leg work initially, though, especially if purchased resale.

So I just completed my first multiple use year res. we booked out at the 11 month window for our favorite resort under contract A. This res had the odd luck of splitting use years on contract B.

I was able to use points on contract A to make the initial res and "grab" the room. Later I called ms and had points transferred from contract B into contract A to cover the bulk of the res.

The ms agent worked through it pretty efficiently, splitting the res into two so that the transferred points would apply to the proper days.

So far so good. We shall see how well it goes when trying to make a 7 month res.
