Am now the proud owner of April and June use year contracts. I am considering doing away with all of the headache if splitting res across two member Ids by transferring all June points to the April contract on an ongoing basis.

Here is my reasoning, pro/cons:

Single member number to do reservations across future years simplifies booking online prior to ms opening at 9am.

All transferred points can be banked, so none will be lost due to non use in their calendar year.

I have read that ms sometimes allows multiple transfers between an owners contracts. But I don't envision transferring again unless maybe there is a points sale.

I will be losing two months of potential use as June points will become April.

All points will show as a single member id in the online portal.

Edit: both use years are at the same resort

Am I off the mark?

What you don't mention is whether or not your two contracts are for the same resort. If they are for different resorts, transferring the points into a single id won't help with reservations.

One detail I need to check is whether transferred points from different uy will show up in the online portal. Is this true?

I had 2 UY same resort and had problems! When I transferred the points with MS from one contract to the other for a xmas reservation there was a "computer qliche" and some of the points were lost and a complete different resort points multiplied. Needless to say it took MS 4 weeks to "straighten" it out and the entire time I had no idea if I would get my reservation even though they assured me I would. It did all work out but I have to say I was more then happy to sell the different UY contract and bought another resort with the same UY as my other contracts to keep it simple.

Here is my take on multiple UY's and the future:

If you are actively combining 2 UY's, I would sell a contract and buy the correct UY.

Transferred points retain their home resort and UY.

They do not show up online for booking or under your account on the member website once transferred.

If titled the same, they will show up with one login under one account.

MS has trouble dealing with transferred points.

DVD/DVC discourages multiple UY's for a reason and I doubt if they will ever correct the accounting/web issues.

After your first UY problem, you will probably re-think owning 2 UY's, we did.

You will now have others post that multiple UY's is no big deal, I consider them super human.

I manage two UYs and to be honest I find it no bother. But then we use points only once every two years, and we do marathon trips. In 2015 we will be flying from Australia to LA, LA to MCO and back, staying in Santa Monica, AKV, GFV, San Diego, Universal LA and GCV. Some say I am clinically insane :-) but I find transferring points before making a reservation nothing compared to the planning that goes in. Also I have been waiting since about February to make this reservation so I know exactly how many points I need, what I am Transferring etc it will take me about 5 minutes to do. Also what helps is it is all 11 month bookings. If you are a bit less obsessive than me I can see it would be a hassle.

The one downside of transferred points is not being able to see them online so having to call but aside from that to me it is a small detail in managing my points.

We currently have three different Use Years (and have had four in the past). We've had no problem managing the contracts especially since all of the information about those contracts is easily available online. We have found the different Use Years to add a great deal of flexibility when making reservations as we no longer need to make reservations near the end of a Use Year.

We've never had a problem with MS regarding a transfer. Your June points will NOT become April points as transferred points will retain their original Use Year (as well as Home Resort status).

We have not transferred points every year as there are other ways to use those same points with banking/borrowing and MS will combine nights reserved from the different contracts into one reservation for you but transferring, as you described above, is also a very viable alternative.

Enjoy! :)

We have two UYs at OKW.
I have to manage my points separately; one of the contracts was bought with our daughters. I do this with a simple Excel speadsheet that I maintain, as I get access to and use points. Whatever method you decide to use to keep track of your points, make it as easy and stress-free as possible.
As PP have stated:
1. The points will not "become" April UY points when transfered.
2. They will retain their June UY and their current home resort booking priority.
3. Transfered points will NOT show up on the web-site to be used for booking, you will have to call MS to use those points. With the long wait times being reported you may find in the future that this is an issue.

Along the same lines. I have two use years. I know you can transfer future year points but can you make a reservation with borrowed points, cancel the reservation, and then transfer the points.

I have 3 use years at 3 different resorts, I find that I have no problems with them. However, I do not mind staying at SSR if I have to combine them for a longer and larger group stay.

No borrowed points can not be transferred.
Borrowing is a final transaction and can not be undone.

Not being able to see transferred points in the portal is kind of a drag. I like the 8am advantage.

So If I use points to book the first days of a stay online at 8am, I assume I can call ms and have them transfer the points to book the remainder afterward?

We have two UY and your first line is the real problem. This is particularly true if you are trying to get into a difficult to get resort at 7 months. You can certainly use one UY to grab the first few days and then call MS at 9ET to try to add other days, but there is a small chance that approach may not work during certain times of the year.

Our two contracts are the same resort and the small contract is only 20% of the points, so I generally book what I can with the larger contract, then call to transfer the smaller contract into the larger and re-allocate the points so I can see all of the points that are free for use. We rarely are trying to get into a tough room type at 7 months, so it has worked for us.

One nice thing is that DVC e-mails members to remind them about banking, which is helpful with two contracts.

If you are calling to have MS transfer points, why not just have them make the rest of the reservation you need without transferring? They can combine or link the two reservations right then, saving you from making another contact later.

If you need the 1-hour online booking advantage, I would NOT transfer any points. As you now now, unless the transferred points are from the same use year and resort they do NOT show in your online account.

I'm much more educated now.

I'm looking at a res that I'll have to book day 1 with my April uy, and the rest via the June uy.

Can ms link reservations across member numbers, or will I have to transfer in order for it to be in as one res?

They can link.

If they can link it....will the whole stay be under one reservation number

You are not actually linking them.
You need to put a "Travel with" notice on BOTH reservations of the other reservation's number. This alerts the CM doing the room assignments of what you are trying to do.
