Man with a gun at Downtown Disney

Wow! This is ridiculous! A lot of these young people just don't get it. What in the hell would you need a gun in Downtown Disney for? Thank God they caught him before he did something stupid.

I thought they got rid of the riff raff when they closed those nasty, awful, unsafe clubs. So far we've had a robbery and a man with a concealed weapon arrested. Good job.

the fact that there wasthis horrible situation, even after the clubs were closed, shows it wasn't the clubs that were the problem.

this is scary, true. but I still think it's a shame they did away with Pleasure Island . It is OK to have a venue for law -abiding adults (much like City Walk at Universal). Disney is NOT just for kids. Itwas nice for empty nesters like hubby and I to have a place to drink and dance, enjoy dif. types of music (and the adventurers club... konga loosh!)while on vacation..no driving involved!
pleasure island was separate from the shops, etc at Village marketplace, ... if you didn't want to go there with your kids, you didn't have to.

I'm pretty certain that Zulemara was being sarcastic in his post. He's been very vocal against the closing of Pleasure Island. That being said, I completely agree with you that PI was an amazing place for adults. The one thing I regret is that I never got to properly experience PI before it closed. The one time I was there after I turned 21 I just didn't have any time to get down there. However, knowing that I would be there for 7 months during the College Program, I wasn't worried. Then September rolled around...:sad1:

Zulmara and Disney Cruise

I am SO SORRY! I don't normally follow this thread. Is there an "embarassed" smilie? I guess in my stupidity, however, I expressed your feelings.
I shoud have known Zul's post was "over the top". but I am so used to many posters on the dis really sounding like that!
as empty nesters who enjoy disney twice a year, I guess I am so used to being bombarded with "disney is JUST for kids", that I played right into that.

:confused3.
rats.... I can never find the appropriate smilies. hubby and I just like to go there... OFTEN!!! and have adult fun, even though we are kids at heart. now that we've don everything umpteen times, we like to see the "goodmorning" show at MK, then head over to the tomorrowand speedway and enjoy the little trip around before the lines are too long, do a few rides at fantasy land, and share a funnel cake at sleepy hollow. why? because we're DORKS!
however, before we became empty nesters, we brought our boys as teens.
and they LOVED Adventurers club. and we walked up and down PI. and our oldest couldn't WAIT till he was 21 . he said. "when I am 21, I[m coming to DISNEY and Pleasure Island! ... he was going to do it for his honeymoon, but house payments, baby, etc. stopped that. and now.... too late!!!
we could a
ll go together, and we could babysit, and the youngsters could go to PI! ... no.... it's gone!
once we stayed at the Dolphin. went to karaokee at Swan. hubby sang a few(he;s a crooner)... next night, after illuminations.... couldn't walk in the place tons of 10-12 years old girls, in line to sing. after 10 pm! this is a night club! the cut off was supposed to be 10 PM for kids.
we're drinking whiskey and beers, guess our money doesn't count.
don't get me started on "staking out spots" for illuminations an hour ahead of time, and having families pushing you aside at the last minute because "it's all for the kids".
OR having 2 families with dinner ressies, but not booking as one (to avoid the horrendous 18% tip for groups of 6 or more,) and sitting in the middle of them, with screaming kids.,... but... I digress.....
so WHY is it so terrible to have a little place (like PI) for adults?

whew... glad I got THAT off my chest!:rotfl::lmao:

embarrassed smiley = As for your comment, I wouldn't lose sleep. He's a good guy :thumbsup2

When I first read the headline I thought maybe, just maybe it was my husband. He said he wouldn't go to the World of Disney store unarmed again :rotfl2: But nope, he's sound asleep upstairs. The only way I can convince him to go to DTD nowadays is for Earl of Sandwich. Other than that, he's outta there.

The joy of the whole situation is that once again, Disney is all over it. Everywhere you go there are people making poor decisions. Just another example that Disney knows it and are working hard to keep us safe while we are under their watch. This is one area where I can still say, "GREAT JOB DISNEY!" :thumbsup2

The best part of the entire story was the fact that the gun FELL out of the guy's pants in front of the cops. What a moron to do such a thing and that made it even worse!

No need to fear. I'm sure there were many well armed DISers who would have stepped in and stopped the madness if the cops didn't.

I would go to the clubs, but my Segway is in the shop.;)
