Man Inured On Dragon Challenge

I could completely see a situation where anything, even a coin could have been dislodged from a pocket and, maybe on the inversion where the coasters come right toward each other, if one coaster was ahead of the other one...penny flies outward...centrifugal force does its thing and hits the other passenger.

Sad possibility, but the first incident of its kind in 10 years of operation, I'll take the odds that it won't happen to me.

The odds are just mind boggling, really. And in this case, the odds of not just hitting an open eye but hitting the one good eye of a man who's already blind in the other eye? Wow... talk about freak accidents.

Carlos is a co-worker who works as a nurse in our medical department. He is a very nice man who decided to take his family on vacation and visited Universal, just like you and I do, and suffered a very unfortunate accident, this could have happened to anyone. Apparently, he has been told that he was most likely struck by an item that came from a passing car. Universal has been taking very good care of his family, but, nothing will bring his eyesight back. He is now legally blind since he lost his right eye and could barely see from his left eye. It freaks me out and I will NOT be riding that ride again.

That must be horrible to have to go to the hospital on vacation. [although I had to.] But for me I got to go back that night.:lmao:

Please give him best wishes from everyone here and tell him we all hope there is a better eventual outcome for him. I know I don't speak on behalf of everyone, but I don't think anyone here would object to that.

You do for me. :thumbsup2

That's scary because I sat front row on both red & blue sides of Dragon Challenge 2 days before this accident. Sorry to hear it!

It certainly is a real shame and I send my thoughts to the family. I've ridden Dragon Challenge/Dueling Dragons more times than I can count but I also wear my sunglasses and have not had any problems.

I'm sure Universal will do everything they can to help him and the family.

I know this was probably a freak accident but it makes me think twice about riding it now, like a previous poster said I will always think of this when I ride it. I feel bad for that man and his family....he can't work anymore all because of a horrible accident. If it was someone waiting in the cue being stupid I wonder if there are security video camera's that could prove this one way or the other?

I honestly don't think anyone can get walk up close to the coaster trains to be able to throw something while its in motion, although its been a while since I've ridden dragon challenge
