Can anyone help me with this, I have a 20yo DS whose feet smell awful.

He showers 2x a day. Scrubs his feet. Always puts on clean socks. Even will wear FLIP FLOPS through out most of the winter, to keep his feet "breathing"??? :rolleyes2

Anyway, we have tried everything out there they have in CVS for SMELLY FEET!! ::yes::

He did not like the foot powder option as that gets all over everything, so he buys himself the spray for feet.

I keep DRYER SHEETS in all his shoes. He is very aware of his smelly feet and HATES it. He will be starting SAILING at school and those rubber shoes are the worst for trapping the odor. He sweats up a storm during sailing practice and competitions so those shoes/boots (?) take a real beating.

ANY SUGGESTIONS OUT THERE THAT WORK FOR ANYONE, I WOULD LOVE YOUR IDEAS!!!! :thumbsup2

I know that you said that he scrubs his feet but you need to make sure that he takes the time to scrub between everyone of his toes and ideally with a washcloth. I know this sounds simple but it can make a huge difference in foot odor. A lot of people only scrub the tops and bottoms of their feet and still have foot odor because the bacteria that cause it like to hang out in the damp areas between your toes.

Hope this helps.

1)Make sure he does not have an infection of some sort. No athlete's foot or infected ingrown toenail or anything.

2) Ask your doctor about drysol-a prescription antiperspirant -it can be irritating but may be worth it

My DD, 14 has bad foot smell, even when she was an infant. She sprays them often with a spray, but thats as far as we got. I'm going to keep my eye on this one!

my hubby had horrible nasty smelling feet but that was because he had nasty ingrown toenails on both big toes. His socks smelled so bad that I had to wash them twice. I got sick of it and made him an appointment to get them fixed and he hasnt had smelly feet since!

Rubbing alcohol! Not the weak stuff, but the more concentrated stuff. Use it twice a day. Wash feet, swab with alcohol all over and between toes and let dry. Something about the alcohol kills whatever is stinky. It really works if you do it regularly. A friend who is a doctor suggested this to me when I was complaining about DS's feet. And it's really an inexpensive fix. Just be careful you feet don't end up too dried out. If you have a tendency towards dry skin you might need to put on lotion or something after?

:lmao:
The only thing that ever makes me feet stink are the cheapo shoes, like KMart or Payless.

Good Luck! (poor kid.)

GOOD IDEAS, EVERYONE :thumbsup2

PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING :thumbsup2

Oh, BTW, DS had suffered years ago with "ingrown toenails" on each big toe and he did have those "stripped"..where they remove the sides of the nail completely, leaving the nail in place but now no more chance of ingrown toenails on his BIG toes.

Dumb question...can you get ingrown toenails on the remaining toes??

Odorzout (www.88stink.com) works really well in shoes. You can put a layer of fabric in the shoe, sprinkle in the odorzout, and let it sit over night.

Has he tried Crocs, especially for sailing? They have an antimicrobial surface, which keeps your feet amazingly stink-free. The air holes also help a lot, and they were first developed as boating shoes - great traction, and they float!

I was actually thinking Crocs from the beginning, then when I read about the sailing class, that really made me think of them. I know you said that rubber shoes are the worst, but Crocs aren't rubber, they're some sort of special resin, and they really are the best shoes I've ever found for eliminating foot odor.

Way back when I was in college, one of my summer jobs involved power washing a particular facility at night. My feet would get pretty wet and I didn't think much about it. Unfortunately after a while, I developed what my family described as "Toxic Sock Syndrome." Evan after I left the job and was no longer standing in water, the smell continued. I tried powders, sprays, insoles, etc and nothing worked. I then read somewhere about using Benzoil Peroxide on your feet. Yep, zit cream ... and it worked! Get out of the shower and dry off then apply a thin coat. Within a week I wasn't worried about who was standing downwind!

They had a show on this last night on Discovery Health....Dr. Know..He said to not wear the same shoes 2 days in a row,use baking soda in the shoes when not wearing. They said the bacteria that cause foot odor need moisture so anything you can to keep feet dry will help (change socks every day, which I thought everyone did!) Good luck. Maybe the show is on the website since it was on last night...

I had to check to make sure this was not my post! My soon to be 20 yo son has awful feet. He also has had 3 ingrown toenails (same toe) taken care of, and the last time, it was taken off for good (the nail, not the toe :rotfl2: ) Anyway, I can remember my maternal grandfather soaking his feet in vinegar! :teeth: I think it is actually worse than the stinky feet smell!!! But, I hear vinegar is a great cleaner. :confused3
