Las Vegas Man*alay B#y - questions

Hi all

We are booked in to stay at Man*alay B#y for 10 nights in July. We have booked a 2 bedroom suite for me DH, DD (10 months) and my mum. We chose this hotel because of the 2 bedroom feature and were hoping for a very luxurious and special room.

I have now been reading some not so good reviews on trip advisor!!!! While we did get a package deal it is still not cheap and i am worried now it may not be worth it!!!!

Anyone stayed in a 2 bedroom suite recently or this hotel in particular??

Also can you use the fridge for your own things??? Having a bub i was hopping to use it but now read it has pressure sensitive pads for the mini bar items???

I've stayed at almost every hotel on the strip, including Mandalay Bay (although not in a 2 bedroom since it's just me, lol).

Mandalay Bay is fine, don't get concerned over the trip advisor reviews. There are several strip hotels that I like a lot less than Mandalay.

The biggest beef with Mandalay is the location. It's at the far end of the strip and some people dislike that. I think it's fine. You can catch the tram to Excalibur and then walk or take the monorail from there. Or you can ride the deuce bus for a few bucks; it goes up and down the strip.

If I were a gambler, which I am not, I probably wouldn't like the casino here as it seems very small compared to most of the other hotels.

The rooms are fine, nothing fancy. There are great restaurants. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay.

As far as the fridge; I can't remember Mandalay's vs the others. Some of them do have the bar readers so if you pick up an item, you buy it. Most of these fridges are pretty stocked with little room to put in anything of your own. Some of the fridges have the pressure sensitive sections in the door but the shelves can have stuff moved around, etc. Either way, there will be little room for you to add anything. If you can remove things without getting charged, you would need to remember to put them back before you leave the room every day because housekeeping will re-stock/charge you daily as they come through. So if they see stuff missing, they are going to charge you.

I agree with Pakey; don't put too much into the TripAdvisor reviews. As you know, people who are upset tend to write more reviews than people who are satisfied.

Mandalay Bay is a fine hotel. I don't like staying that far down the strip because I like to be in the center of things when I go to Vegas. But having a good deal on a 2 bedroom sounds like a good trade off in your specific situation.

When reading the TripAdvisor reviews were there specific things that you don't like that came up over and over?

Mandalay Bay Hotel was one we where considering for our stay last year, like others i would not pay much attention to reviews unless it was the same thing coming up. I am sure it will be fine.
I finally decided on MGM Signature Suites, we had a 1 bedroom for 2 nights then we had a 2 bedroom for the weekend.Full kitchen fridge dishwasher etc
The rooms where fantastic, and lots of space, not sure if you looked at it.

I have stayed in a gorgeous strip view room there. I would imagine the 2 room suites would be even nicer. It is further down the strip but you can ride the tram. It was a very nice hotel, have a great time!

If you need a refrigerator for baby formula, I would call and ask if they can put one in your room, rather than relying on the minibar. Most minibars in Las Vegas are now the kind that if you move an item, you will be charged for it. Providing a refrigerator to someone who needs one for medicine or baby needs isn't a big deal; but I would ask for it before I arrived. (I used to work at MB; this is not an unusual request.)

Mandalay Bay is a true resort. You can spend a 3 day weekend and never leave the hotel and have a great time, if that's the kind of trip you want. I wouldn't look at it as being at the end of the Strip; I'd call it the beginning of the strip. You are near outlet mall shopping and also the Town Square mall; and if you are renting a car you have great freeway access. Plus, you are near the airport.

Jilma - thanks for the tip i will definately request a fridge as it is for baby food stuff mostly.

I am not too worried about being at the far end of the strip. We will get the "deuce" most places and lots of walking.
