I was looking at both menus online and they looked somewhat similar for dinner (aside from the wood-fired flatbreads/pizzas). It seems the atmosphere at Tony's would give it the edge...but, we've never been to either one and I was wondering if I could have some opinions. It seems that, lately, Tony's has been rising above it's previously poor food reputation!

I had the same trouble deciding. I switched from Alfredos to MaMa Melrose
to finally Tony's. It did seem to get a little better reviews. I thought the
atmosphere seemed better too. I guess the final deciding factor for me was
the location. I tried to add variety during our trip. Not only just in food choices but in location too. I already had dinner planned at Sci Fi one night in
MGM and Teppenyaki at Epcot but nothing at MK. I think I made the right choice & this time I'm sticking to it. :)

I dont really like either, but I'd eat at Mama Melrose again...I'd never eat at Tony's again (I thought the food was just horrible). So my vote goes to Mama Melrose.

I've eaten at both (Tony's twice, Mama Melrose's once) and have enjoyed both.
I've always thought that Tony's food was good standard Italian (aka Italian-American food) and that service could be better. We've sat in the outside glass patio and enjoyed ourselves people watching and drinking coffee.
Mama Melrose's veal is excellent, I've never had better, and there service was on par when we where last there. The waiter was extremely kind, explained the menu and his recommendations (just like a real waiter who cares would!) and he definately made our meal more enjoyable.
That might be why I'm looking forward to go back to Mama Melrose...I don't know if it's just me, but sometimes service really does make the food taste better!
My vote is Mama Melrose.

Thank you for the vote for Mama Melrose.

We had a bad experience at Hollywood and Vine this year for our fantasmic dinner - so I am thinking of Mama Melrose.

Where is Mama Melrose located in MGM Studio's ?

MGM Studio's is the only park I have not mastered the map of yet - seems confusing to me :rotfl:

I didn't particularly care for Mama's I have never done Tony's but plan to in November. Just my 2 cents

We did the fantasmic dinner package one night with Mama Melrose's and I have to say, we were sick all night from the horrible food. The taste of the food was just gross. In addition, the waiter was horrible and the location was just ok. I would try anything else if it were available to you. I have not eaten at Tony's so I can't speak for that. Two thumbs WAY, WAY down for Mama's.

I last ate at Mama's two Thanksgivings ago and it was really good. Was never very impressed with Tony's.

We've always loved the food at Mama's. It's a great break from the parks. We happen to eat more often at Tony's. The food is OK - not bad or terriffic, just OK. What we really enjoy about Tony's is the air conditioning and general atmosphere. My daughter is addicted to their smoothies.

We had the Fantasmic Package at MM in October. The menu is limited from what is online. The service was good but the food was so gross. Dh who will eat anything, wouldnt even eat it. It was so bad. Dh said if I ever book there again, he wont go back to Disney ever.

I would definately skip Mama Melrose.

Wow... it's amazing to see all the different opinions, I guess it might depend in the chef or the service, sometimes a good restaurant can have a poor impression due to the service... and viceversa.
I booked at both restaurants, Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic Dinner Package and Tony's for the last day of my trip, I hope to get the salmon for both locations, I love salmon! :bounce: Anyone has tried it in any of these restaurants?

Recently did the Fantasmic! package at Mama Melrose. I was not impressed and the food although it was not horrible was just ok. Felt like I was at a local pizzeria/restaurant. Waitress was creepy.

Mama Melrose has it all over Tony's in terms of food and service, and I prefer the atmosphere as well. Plus if you like wine with your Italian you can't get it at Tony's.

liberty tree tavern is very good food in mk turkey mashed and apple cobbler really good

I can recommend Tony's without a problem. Being from New York City, I thought the food was authentic enough, especially the meat and calamari. My spaghetti that night was very impressive, and also was our waitress.

We were seated right behind the Lady and the Tramp statue, and it was a great dining experience!

We have ate at MM on multiple Occasions and Tony's once. Mama's wins big time. I have always ordered the Chicken parmagina, so as a entree i am only going to speak for that. It is delicious and so was everything else that we got with the meal.

If my food was as bad as I've read on this board, I would have sent it back!! Tony's is very mild or very little spice. No complaint with Liberty Tree yet I have read Neg about that too.

I have eaten at MM twice and enjoyed it both times. Both the servers I had were really good and I liked the food. That said, if I wasn't at MGM I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

Okay, okay, I realize that Mama Melrose's is getting the most votes...why do I wish Tony's was????

I don't see how the menu is limited for the Fantasmic Package.
I can see that you don't get to pick an appitizer for the FDP, but I don't mind a salad at all...I really don't want bruchetta or calimari, or let alone soup when it's 90 degrees out! But you get a flatbread (which is a regular entree for dinner) plus a standard entree for the FDP. That's like an entree and a half for some people! And as of 6/6 the menus are the same for entrees for both dinner and the FDP.

And I don't think this was answered yet, Mama Melrose is over by Muppets 3D...it's hidden in a little corner if I remember correctly.

We have eaten at both restaurants many times. We have not eaten at Tonys in a few years because we kept getting horrible meals there so we took a break.
We like the food at Mama Melrose a lot. We have never had a bad meal there. Someone said it reminded them of a local pizza joint or italian restaurant. That is excatly what it is modeled after--a local, neighborhood italian retaurant in NYC. Ever notice that the dishes and silverware do not match? That is also part of the theming--Mama could not afford to buy all the same pattern of dishes so she just mixed and matched whatever she could find. One of the servers told us that story.
Maybe we are wierd, but we like the everything about Mamas, the atmosphere, the food and the servers.
