We used to love eating at Tony's at Magic Kingdom, but didn't have a good experience there last time. We are looking for a restaurant with some good Italian food - my favorite is Chicken Parmigiana.

My husband ate at Alfredo's in Epcot many years ago & won't go back. Is Mama Melrose's a good one to try? I have heard many mixed reviews on this restaurant. With so many restaurants we love at WDW, I'd hate to spend my time at a restaurant we won't enjoy. Any info anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated - thanks!!! ::MickeyMo

We liked it. I've heard mixed reviews as well. It wasn't to die for italian food, but we liked and would go back if we had the chance.

This is one of our family's favorites...and it really puzzles us when we read negative reviews about it.
The food is very good.....I will say not great, but very enjoyable. We happen to love the atmosphere as well. Don't get me wrong, we go to Disney...like everyone else...to see Mickey and the gang, but sometimes you need a little break from all the Disney stuff. This restaurant provides that. It's like walking into a neighborhood restaurant anywhere in the country.
We've been there our last three trips...two dinners and a lunch...not disappointed any of the times.

We are like you used to love Tony's but with the changes have not wanted to visit. We also do not like Alfredos, but Mama's has become one of our favorites. The food is very good, cant say enough about the wonderful waitstaff we always seem to get and just love that it seems tucked away, quieter then the other MGM restaurants. They used to have this wonderful italian sandwich which is no longer on the menu but we mentioned to our server and she had the chef make it for us.

Think you will like this location.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I think we will make time for Mama Melrose's on our next trip - we used to eat at Hollywood & Vine for lunch - since this is no longer an option - we needed a new MGM restaurant anyways. Thanks again!!! :teeth:

We have eaten at MM once on each of our last 7 trips and only had 1 disappointing meal. But, the reason it was disappointing was because I had my heart set on having a certain dish and when we arrived we found out they had just changed the menu and didnt serve it anymore. The flatbread was still good, but not what I had wanted that night.
We are going back for an 8th straight time in July, so obviously we like it.

On our last trip DS11 and I had the chicken parm and it was very good.

Always puzzled by mixed reviews as well....we ate there our last three trips and were very satisfied every time.

I would suggest one of the delicious flatbreads and a caesar salad! Yummy!

I see references to bad reviews but don't remember seeing an actual bad review?!

Anyway, we love Mama Melrose. We have lunch there at least twice each trip. We used to love catching the first show of Hunchback and then heading to lunch.

I love the basic salad with vinegarette, the flatbreads and the calamari. The sauce that comes with the calamari has a nice kick. One son loves the Italian sausage. We've never tried chicken parmiaggne there but really have enjoyed our meals.

I agree that the service is outstanding. Particular favorites of our are Dori and Kevin.

It is a great relaxing respite from the lines and crowds of MGM.

I've been to WDW 9 times and of all of the meals I have eaten there, my dinner at Mama Melrose's was the worst. I ordered a chicken dinner (I think it was chicken marsala) and the chicken was dry. The marsala sauce was horrible, too. The waitress seemed to be having a bad day, as well. I understand we all have bad days sometimes, but it didn't make matters any better. I doubt that I will eat there again in the future. That's okay, there are plenty of other places to eat in WDW.

Well, there is a bad review!

Mickey76, do you recall when this was? Although if you're like me, the years blend together after so many trips. We had a bad experience at Alfredos some years back and won't ever return but it may have been 8 years ago or 15!
:o

We did the Fantasmic dinner show at Mama Melrose. It was the first time we had gone there and found the food pretty good. I had Chicken Parm. and thought it was good. As for the price, I thought it was kind of high but that may have been because of the Fantasmic show.

IMAGINATION!!! IMAGINATION!!! IMAGINATION!!!
I miss FIGMENT AND the DREAM FINDER ride at Epcot!!!
Thanks Karen!::yes::

We've been to Mama Melrose once, we'll probably never visit the restaurant again. The food was cold and tasteless, the service was very poor & super slow.

We've eaten there once in 2001. We had a good meal--dh and I had flatbreads and salads, ds had pizza I think. We would like to eat there again, we've just been trying other restaurants out. After our next trip, we'll have eaten at all of the table service restaurants in MGM and can start repeats!;)

Just wanted to thank everyone for all their advice/recommendations. I am thinking we will go ahead & give it a try on our upcoming trip. We really don't have another restaurant at MGM we want to try anyways. It seems like many of you have had good experiences at MM & continue to return - that's a good sign to me. :D

Looking forward to trying out the chicken parm! :wave2:

Thanks again!! :D

I think Mama Melrose is very good. I am 10 years old and if u have kids they have a very good kids menu. If u don't have kids, my mom and dad loved it there. I would make reservations;it's very busy.

We have eaten at Mama Melrose several times, and always enjoyed it!!

BCV23 I agree about the calamari - this is where my DD got hooked on it!!

The only time we have experienced less than great service was when we did the Fantasmic dinner pkg. and the rest. was super crowded.

We eat at MM every trip and I do have to admit I liked the old menu better. They now call this menu "Italian with a California twist" whatever that means. The dishes are generous and the prices are a bit high, but the atmosphere is kinda cool. Kind of a mish-mash of decor. The old menus used to have a story of Mama how she was from N.Y. & she was an out of work actress that cooked for all her wanta be actor friends. It kinda gave the place a little themeing. I wish they could bring some of the theme back to the place. They also used to have a dessert sampler that was to die for. I guess things have to change to stay fresh, but I like the good ol' days!!

I think I've eaten there everytime I've ever been to MGM, and we've always enjoyed it! It's also good because if you pick quieter times of the day you can walk in without a PS.
